Wow! Just mentioned by Judy Woodruff. Looking for original source.
That one HAS to be a Freeper troll...I hope! :-D
We can also cite the recent Canadian federal election. Many pre-election polls said that the current Liberal party majority government would be replaced by a Conservative party minority or majority government. Many Canadians found out on election night, to their disappointment, that there was still going to be a Liberal government, albeit a minority one. To this day, it's a puzzle why many of the polls were wrong.
Moral of the story: beware all polls until the election.
I agree with you and it will also give W some decent coattails and a mandate. Rats must be shaking in their boots because the Exterminator is coming.
I don't know, but I DO know I'm agitating for Nader NOW. Those whose situation is such that in a political discussion, they've got to keep their conservatism in the closet, say, government workers, or educators, those are the folks best situated to spout pro-Nader and anti-Kerry stuff NOW. I'd be talking a lot how Kerry is a loser and at least we can get the really principled guy onto the national scene, blah blah blah (to steal a line from John F'in Kerry)...
Yes, but the thing I keep thinking about is that this poll was taken BEFORE the President's speech... If the President's numbers hit a 15 point lead this weekend, it's going to change the face of Arakis forever - whoops, sorry slipped into Dune-speak...
Let's just say that if the polls look good after this weekend, you won't be able to wipe the grins off our President's staff with a brillo pad...
Listening to the beginning of the video now... Posting the transcript:
A New Course For America
Remarks of John Kerry
For Immediate Release
September 2, 2004
Springfield, OH - The election comes down to this. If you believe this country is heading in the right direction, you should support George Bush. But if you believe America needs to move in a new direction, join with us. John and I offer a better plan that will make us stronger at home and more respected in the world. We offer responsible leadership and with your help, were going to bring that leadership to Washington!
For four days in New York, instead of talking about real plans for creating jobs, strengthening the economy, expanding health care, and bringing down gas prices, we heard almost nothing but anger and insults from the Republicans. And Ill tell you why. Its because they cant talk about the real issues facing Americans. They cant talk about their record because its a record of failure.
Tonight, President Bush got up and told us that hes got a plan for the economy. Thats exactly what he said four years ago. But with the largest deficit in American history, I dont think we can afford four more years of this presidents plans. Thats because for four years, this president has taken us in the wrong direction.
But the plans he offered tonight are just more of the same policies that are failing at home and in Iraq now. And we know he won't change them. In fact, the President is quite proud of the fact that not even failure will force him to change course.
You all saw the anger and distortion of the Republican Convention. For the past week, they attacked my patriotism and my fitness to serve as Commander-in-chief. Well, heres my answer. I will not have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and by those who have misled the nation into Iraq.
The Vice President called me unfit for office last night. Well, I'll leave it up to the voters to decide whether five deferments makes someone more qualified to defend this nation than two tours of duty.
Let me tell you what I think makes someone unfit for duty. Misleading our nation into war in Iraq makes you unfit to lead this nation. Doing nothing while this nation loses millions of jobs makes you unfit to lead this nation. Letting 45 million Americans go without healthcare makes you unfit to lead this nation. Letting the Saudi Royal Family control our energy costs makes you unfit. Handing out billions of government contracts to Halliburton while you're still on their payroll makes you unfit. That's the record of George Bush and Dick Cheney. And that only scratches the surface. I believe it's time to move America in a new direction; I believe it's time to set a new course for America. And together, you, John Edwards and I will do that on November 2nd.
For four years, George Bush has stubbornly misled America and taken us in the wrong direction.
He's misled America's workers he told them his economic plan would create 6 million jobs. The truth is we've lost nearly 1.8 million since George Bush took office. He said his plan would create 266,000 jobs in Ohio. Instead Ohio has lost 230,000 jobs since he took office -- 112,000 jobs since the recession ended in November of 2001. Earlier this week, his Labor Secretary even said outsourcing was good for America. I dont believe that. John and I have a plan that will put an end to tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas and reward companies who create and keep jobs here in America. And we have a plan that will give tax credits to employers who create new jobs and well eliminate capital gains taxes for those who make long-term investments in their small businesses. Well also help small businesses meet the rising costs of health care costs that keep so many of them from hiring and expanding.
For four years, George Bush has misled America's families saying he had a health care plan for America. The truth is he's done nothing as 5 million more Americans have lost their health care, bringing the total number to 45 million people without coverage nationwide. In Ohio, 114,000 people have lost their health coverage since bush took office, bringing the total number of Ohioans without coverage to 1.4 million. John and I have a plan to make quality health care affordable for all. Because we believe that your health care is as important as any politicians in Washington, DC.
When it comes to getting gas prices under control, George Bush has misled America. America is more dependent than ever on Mid-East oil. John and I have a plan to make America energy independent by investing in new technologies and alternative fuels. John and I believe we need to rely on American ingenuity and brainpower to ensure our country's freedom and independence, not on the Royal Saudi family.
Worst of all, George Bush misled America when he took us to war in Iraq. The truth is, when it comes to Iraq, its not that I would have done one thing differently, I wouldve done almost everything differently. I believe its time we had a president who told the American people the truth.
We need to take America in a new direction. And we have a specific plan to do just that. So tomorrow morning, John and Elizabeth and Teresa and I are hitting the road on a bus tour across Americas heartland. From here, well go out and talk with Americans in towns across Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan. And because a stronger America begins at home, well talk about our plan to create jobs, cut taxes for the middle class, lower health care costs, and make America safer and more secure.
I believe we can be stronger at home we can create jobs again, get health care costs under control, and make ourselves independent of Mid-East oil but George Bush's policies won't get us there. And I believe we can be more respected in the world but it won't happen with George Bush's arrogant, go-it-alone foreign policy.

No transcript I can find for Edwards' part of the speech.
I try to find the details, but can only find their poll of one week ago, that had Bush up 2 (46 to 44):
http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101040906/pollbox.html#
I'd like to know the internals on the poll, but if it is consistent with last weeks, there was an 8 point bounce.
THE BIG MO IS ON.
You're a trooper, especially doing it in 'hostile territory' like that... God speed!
Outstanding......
This is great news!
That is very insightful! The rats don't even know how to identify a candidate with character, ability and wisdom. They just find whatever clown has a superficial electibility quality and let the media do the rest. John-John should be unbeatable according to their twisted logic. Now the wheels are coming off and there is not a damn thing they can do about it.
I'd almost feel sorry for them if they weren't trying to turn the greatest country in history into France.
My former union buddies in the AFL-CIO are crying in their beers. There will be raging rhetoric at Monday's Labor Day parade.
"Had Dole gotten nasty and engaged in low percentage, high risk tactics in 1996, he would have still lost, but worse, he would have made it too difficult for Bush to come along to win in the next election in 2000."
Right!
"Bob Dole took one for the team in 1996."
Actually, Senators make bad Presidential candidates. In Dole's case, because as a senate 'leader' he had to make compromises that look like non-leadership.
In Kerry's case, he wasnt even a GOOD Senator, his ultra-liberal record and flip flops and lack of accomplishments make him the least qualified candidate since, jeez, who - Jimmy Carter in 1976????
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush holds a 49-to-43 percent edge over Democratic rival Al Gore in the latest CNN/Time poll, conducted Wednesday and Thursday.
***I'll "see" your CNN and raise you ONE Chris Lehane:
W A S H I N G T O N, Nov. 3 Even if George W. Bush is elected president, he may need special permission to get into Canada because of his arrest for drunken driving.
The Republican candidate for president acknowledged for the first time on Thursday that he was arrested for driving under the influence on Labor Day weekend in 1976, near his family home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
It helps to have ALL the information when you're debating.
Bump!!!!
Where are the other polls?
If they had anything on Bush they would have released it by now rather than wait to distract from the SwiftVet's charges.
Don't count chickens before they hatch ...
Case 1: Kerry was losing to Weld in 1996, running badly, then pulled it out; not hard to do
Case 2: Kerry was ready when Dean imploded.
my point is - Kerry ran a bad convention and his swift vet response was awful - heck his whole campaign is just a big nothing so far - but Kerry's dug himself out of bad spots before.
There is a way for kerry to get close, if not win: run to Bush's right on fiscal prudence, make the economy the #1 issue, and simply ignore or agree with Bush on GWOT while jabbing the Iraq decision. In other words, if Kerry simply
ran the Clinton 1992 playbook, he get close to Bush. He wont win on it because GWB is not his father; so he tried the Iraq thing, but he flip-flop FLUBBED it.
Kerry is making the mistake Bush was determined *NOT* to make in 1994 in Texas. He ran against a personally popular political Liberal - Bush was determined *not* to make character and personal issues the issue. He won. Kerry is making that mistake of doing the opposite, going after Bush personally when polls show he is more popular personally. A vote on likeability will get Kerry crushed.
go nader go. wooooo
I love you ralph nader! I encourage all other left-minded folks (such as myself) to vote for this wonderful man.
hehehehhehehehehehehehehehehhehehee
Does anybody have a corresponding electoral projection that's new since the convention?
