My Democratic friends are mad as hell, and they aren't going to take it any more.
They are worried, having watched as another August smear campaign, full of lies and half-truths, takes its toll in the polls.
They are frustrated, mostly at the Kerry campaign, for naively believing that just because all the newspapers and news organizations that investigated the charges of the Swift Boat assassins found them to be full of lies and half-truths, they wouldn't take their toll. The word on the street is that Kerry himself was ready to fire back the day the story broke, but that his campaign, believing the charges would blow over if they ignored them, counseled restraint.
But most of all, activists Democrats are angry. As one who lived through an August like this, 16 years ago -- replete with rumors that were lies, which the Bush campaign claimed they had nothing to do with and later admitted they had planted -- I'm angry, too. I've been to this movie. I know how it works. Lies move numbers.
Remember the one about Dukakis suffering from depression after he lost the governorship? (Dukakis not crazy, more at 11.) We lost six points over that lie, planted by George W.'s close friend and colleague in the 1988 campaign, Lee Atwater. Or how about the one about Kitty Dukakis burning a flag at an antiwar demonstration, another out-and-out lie, which the Bush campaign denied having anything to do with, except that it turned out to have come from a United States senator via the Republican National Committee? Lee Atwater later apologized to me for that, too, on his deathbed. Did I mention that Lee's wife is connected to the woman running the Swift Boat campaign?
Never again, we said then.

The First Rule of Democrats: They always complain loudest about the very things they are doing themselves. I've watched for many years as they have developed the art of dirty, nasty campaigning. And when all else fails they turn to their god and hero Larry Flynt.

Why is it ok for them to air those Moveon.org ads, and Farenheit 911, and not ok for the swift boats?It's okay, because the first two don't work. :'D No one is fooled. And no one is fooled by Kerry et al (which includes Susan Estrich)'s denials of the Swift Boat Veterans' facts and details. Everyone -- even his supporters -- knows that he's a liar. They just don't care. That "my party above all" mentality is exactly why NONE OF THEM are fit for public office -- or for that matter, for unelected positions, like being an alleged journalist.

There is medical and other documentation that may clear up some of the controversy. But my point was, if he has nothing to hide, then quit hiding it. Releasing the info would dispel the notion that he hiding something, which is a significant element of the Swift Vets' attack.
If she wants to play the role of a domestic terrorist, so be it.
When did this happen? I must have missed the acutal "investigated" part. I did see the "dismissed out of hand without research" part, though. The Navy must have missed it too.
Do the 'Rats in the leadership positions REALLY believe that shrill screeching and dirty tricks and more nastiness and even more hate filled rhetoric is the answer to winning people over?

Well, no, we don't care, but I will say: This IS starting to look like 1988 all over again.
Not long ago during the primaries---maybe the night of the Iowa win?---Estrich was on tv, apparently inebriated, telling the world that Kerry was a flagrant philanderer...of course she didn't pronounce those exact words :) but she left no doubt whatsoever.
Yah! Good call! Have GWB offer to release his driving record in exchange for Kerry releasing his military record!
