BESLAN, Russia, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Up to 100 bodies were seen lying in the Russian school gymnasium after troops stormed the building to end a two-day siege, a British ITV News reporter said on Friday.
Julian Manyon of ITV news said his cameraman got into the gym briefly and saw up to a hundred bodies. Manyon said, "There were a large number of corpses lying on the smouldering floor". He said it appeared explosive charges laid by the attackers had been detonated.
think that'll get the ruskies to join the fight against terrorism?
I.e., the usual Russian operation. "Free" the hostages.
One thing about it..... these events in Russia never last long.
We should be careful about initial reports of number of casualties. Remember how often numbers were revised for September 11th? Although, there is a report that a wall or the ceiling collapsed in part of the school. Still--confirmation of true numbers is forthcoming.
I just don't want to believe that these poor children have been murdered.
"I.e., the usual Russian operation. "Free" the hostages."
I think it's called "The Reno Doctrine".
And pray tell, don't forget "more thoughful".
mo-slimes murdering helpless infants. How typical.
So, are we fed up with mo-slimes yet? Or will we continue to be "tolerant"?
Just to play Devil's Advocate...what were they supposed to do to free the children and other hostages? Negotiation is not an option, of course. And the hostages had no food or water, according to reports. Options were fairly limited...
One might conclude that the problem is is-slime.
Clearly, they need a Kerry as president, to fight a more sensitive war against terrorism...
There really were no options - the best approach is to save as many as possible while defeating the terrorists. They cannot be appeased. All the people in that school were likely to be killed had Russia not acted decisively.
That was my thinking exactly. Another rescue plan designed by Janet "burn the babies first" Reno.
I would have to know the details on the ground, but in principle I agree with the use of force in this type of situation.
When militants takes hostages, it doesn't matter. The whole practice of hostage taking loses much of its leverage potential. The message it sends: you can't hide behind children or anywhere - - We're coming.
How on earth was this supposed to end with no casualties? I would imagine that some of those children were already dead b/c the Muslim terrorists were dehydrating them. Young children die from dehydration quickly.
The only thing that the Russians are at fault here for is their lack of exterminating all of the Chechnyan "rebels".
In a situation like this, there's almost nothing you can do except take action, with the knowledge that some of the hostages are sure to die, while many will be saved. There are situations in which patience is called for, but this, in my opinion, wasn't one of them.
Will Russia finally wake up and take their fight with these Islamists outside of the Chechen borders?
The new Imam of the Grand Mosque of Rome, the largest in Europe, called for the "victory of Islamic fighters in Palestine, Cechnya and other areas of the world" in his sermon Friday, June 6 [2004]. He called for Allah's help in "the destruction of the homes and destruction of the enemies of Islam". He called for their "annihilation" and "the victory everywhere of the Nation of Islam."
Apparently CAIR is a voice in the wilderness, even with a tepid condemnation.
