Kerry apparently loses fear of Legionnaire's disease
The Boston Herald ^ | 9/1/04 | Howie Carr

Talk about a doubly incongruous image - John Kerry [related, bio] in Nashville, addressing the convention of the American Legion.

But that's where he's going today, and that's what he'll be doing.

As for the Legionnaires, he's got no use for them, none whatsoever.

Here are his own words, taken directly from his own 1971 book, ``The New Soldier'':

``We will not readily join the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars - in fact, we will find it hard to join anything at all . . .'' Except maybe the Somerset Club.

``We will not uphold traditions which decorously memorialize that which was base and grim,'' he wrote.

The nice thing about this epilogue is that he wrote it. At the end of it are his initials, ``J.K.'' He can't blame this on somebody else, the way he does with everything else that comes back to bite him.

How freaked out is Kerry by this whole Vietnam issue? He's barely speaking to reporters, even bow-tied ones.

``We were sent to Vietnam to kill communism,'' Sen. Kerry wrote. ``But we found instead that we were killing women and children.''

Imagine if George Bush had written this, for publication, and then flown off to Nashville to address the baby-killers. Yet John Kerry has already spoken to the VFW, and today it's the American Legion, and the trust-funded bedwetters of the lamestream media won't say boo.

``We will not quickly join those who march on Veterans Day waving small flags, calling to memory those thousands who died for the `greater glory of the United States.' ''

Today, though, he'll do just that. He'll even give them his FleetCenter salute.

And so the ``New Soldier,'' as he calls himself, rubs elbows with the American Legion today. It's quite a sacrifice, having to leave his wife's $9 million mansion on Nantucket. He'll miss out on dinner at the Chanticleer Inn, another of those moderately priced bistros that dot John Kerry's America.

Maybe Lovey can get him some takeout - something simple and C-ration-like. How about the Chanticleer's trademark dish: Homard Roti Injecte au Beurre de Champagne, which is ``live lobster roasted whole injected while cooking with a champagne butter.''

The price is steep - $45 - but not nearly as steep as buying a copy of ``The New Soldier'' on eBay. Yesterday, a first edition was going for $410.

Proving that shame remains in short supply, John Kerry is heading to a convention of the American Legion today. Here's hoping that the vets give him the bum's rush.

``We were sent to Vietnam to kill communism,'' Sen. Kerry wrote.

... which only makes his voluntary morphing into Ted Kennedy's annointed buttboy political protege all the more ironic, really. :)

"We were sent to Vietnam to kill communism," Sen. Kerry wrote.

Note how he dissociates himself from that. He LIKES communism . . . so long as it's for the Little People.

Boy, I was ever so impressed with that wench. NOT. With staff like that....

And FWIW, I think a series of finely-calibrated-apologies-as-needed is just gonna tick people off even more. And rightfully so.

Any veteran that remembers what true patriotism is and why they served in the Armed forces will stand up and turn their backs to Kerry... just as he turned his back to his brothers in arms over 30 years ago...

I who have stood on the watch posts of freedom for 22 years feel ashamed of John Kerry who brought dis-service to himself, his brothers in arms, and this country... There is just no way that he could be trusted to guard liberty's light, he may well give it away.

Kerry deserves nothing less than to be totally shunned!

He made an incredibly stupid, immature, selfish decision back in the day and now he thinks his opportunistic value will carry him still...

Most of all, Kerry needs to turn in his National Defense medal.

Subject: Kerry and the Swift Boat Veteran's Offer

If Kerry makes the admissions required by the letter from
the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, he is admitting to being a
complete fraud. And, for what it's worth, such a series of
admissions would also disgrace the media for enabling the fraud.

He's not able to pull off a "non-apology apology," like
"I'm sorry if anybody was hurt by my 1971 comments," hinting
the comments were true. That would only further anger the
veterans. They were denied what all decent soldiers and
sailors deserve; an honorable homecoming and being able to get
on with normal lives. And the public was bamboozled into being
the agent of hurt by his false testimony before the Senate.

Odds in Vegas are 7-1 against apology. The bookies could
get no money on the "will apologize" side at 5-1.

Some of Clinton's old goons are now on Kerry's team, so look for the old fake sincerity apology to anyone he may have ever offended for anything combined with a promise of $$$billions more for VA's if he is elected.

Oh goodie... means he's toast. I guess he should retire to his mansion for the rest of the campaign. At the end of the day, he's going to receive more or less the same number of votes. Why bother? He could certainly use an extended vacation.

Great e-mail!

Kerry's either a traitorous perjurer or a war criminal. What a choice. Real CinC material there all right (/sarcasm)

The unmitigated gall of this cowardly clown. During a presidential campaign the opponent NEVER campaigns. But then, a warrior never comes home and trashes his flag (see The New Soldier inside and out), his country ( see the 71 Senate testimony), his fellow warriors (too many references to list), and the American Legion (see the Epilogoue of his own banned, unmentionable book, The New Comrade)

If I recall correctly, though, didn't Toon campaign during the '96 GOP convention? Monkey see, monkey do. I'm waiting for someone to bring up Kerry's defense of Toon's draft dodging back when Toon first ran. Then ask why Kerry's making such a big deal of his own service when he defended a draft dodger.
