I enjoy this forum, but lately I've noticed a troubling tendency for posters here to descend into horrible and immature name-calling. Such name-calling, and extremism without reason does nothing but harm our cause. It turns off casual lurkers and readers of this forum. It provides fodder for this forum to be demonized and non-respected elsewhere. Below I provide a few examples. I call on Freepers to stop using such terms voluntarily. If that doesn't work, I call on the moderators to warn, if not censor, posters who use such terms. I realize that Democratic Underground uses even more ridiculous terms sometimes. However, your opponents' choice to frolack in waste does not provide an excuse to do likewise. Rather, it provides an opportunity to rise above, and show one's intellectual and moral superiority. Without more, I present a few examples of the type of garbage I'm talking about. I call on fellow posters to add their own.
1) "Hitlery" -- I dislike Hillary Clinton's politics, and what I know of her personality. However, nothing she has said or done (including her love-fest with Suha Arafat) justifies comparing her to one of the worst monsters in all history. Doing so not only demeans the Holocaust, and all the war dead of WWII, it makes a mockery of this forum to allow it to be posted.
2) "Demorat" -- This is just stupid. Calling your opponent a rodent does nothing to promote conservatism or libertarianism. It does everything to make posters and this forum look like intellectual infants, prone to tantrums and incapable of rational debate. We disagree with Democrats. We should not dehumanize them, or think them so below us that we need not engage them in debate and triumph.
3) "McInsane" & etc. -- John McCain is a conservative, loyal Republican. Indeed, in some areas -- such as controlling spending -- he's far more conservative then Bush. However, he is also a mavarick who doesn't tow the party line -- and, in my opinion, sometimes perhaps puts his principles below his desire to win applauds from the media. That being said, his ACU rating is strong, and he has put legitimate personal disagreements with Bush behind him to support what's best for his party -- and, more importantly -- his country. Feel free to critique McCain. Feel free to disagree with him when he criticizes fellow Republicans or takes an odd liberal stand. However, do not resort to petty name-calling -- especially not name calling that implies he lacks mental faculties, and/or is evil. It's just not right.
So I have written. I hope that a silent majority of Freepers agree with me here.
Now there's a plan!
If you can't get your enemies to fight fair, try to shame your friends into doing it!
Your side will lose, but at least you'll be able to comfort yourself with platitudes while you're dragging them down. And really, isn't demostrating your rectitude the most important thing?
Hall Monitor self promotion
imo
You are correct.
The proper term is "DemonRAT."

She will do worse than that. She will make millions of people misserable, and they'll have to keep on living.
Was she involved wiht the violence, the black panthers or was she working "with" Kennedy? Fill us in...
Here is an excerpt from an article in Insight Magazine
Well, according to Hillary Clinton biographer Joyce Milton, Hillary Rodham organized the monitoring of the Panther trial at the behest of "one of her professors, Thomas Emerson, affectionately known as `Tommie the Commie.'" At the trial she worked closely with Panther lawyer Charles Garry, identified under oath as a member of the Communist Party, or CPUSA, who in turn worked with Robert Treuhaft, longtime attorney for the CPUSA and a frequent defender of the Panthers in their ongoing violent confrontations with authorities.
Treuhaft and his wife, celebrity writer Jessica Mitford, were by Mitford's sworn account hard-line Stalinist communists. In their eyes, for example, the Hungarian freedom fighters who faced Soviet tanks armed only with rocks were "fascist traitors." The House Committee on Un-American Activities listed Treuhaft as one of the most "dangerously subversive" lawyers in the country. Hillary biographer David Brock quotes a historian's assessment of Treuhaft as "a man who dedicated his entire legal career to advancing the agenda of the Soviet Communist Party and the KGB."
As an established radical student leader dating to her days at Wellesley College, with additional credentials and connections developed in the Panther episode and other protests at Yale, Hillary won an internship with Treuhaft in Berkeley, Calif., the nerve center of the revolutionary left, where Treuhaft was known fondly as "The Red Lawyer." Hillary hasn't written or spoken publicly of her experiences while working with Treuhaft, but the years have demonstrated valuable connections made during that time. Treuhaft's trusted associate in cases involving the Panthers at the time was Jack Palladino, who ran an investigative agency in partnership with his wife, former Students for a Democratic Society organizer Sandra Sutherland. Palladino, known as "The People's Detective," surfaces again in the Clinton story when he was called upon to silence "bimbo eruptions" in the early days of presidential campaigning.
Insight reviewed biographies of Hillary Clinton by Milton, Brock and Roger Morris for this story and lengthy selections from such other biographies as Barbara Olson's Hell to Pay. Together, relying on primary and other firsthand sources, they unquestionably back Horowitz's contention that Hillary was a campus leader during the Panther protests. She was, by standards of those chaotic and violent times, a moderate voice compared with such fanatics as Yippie leader Jerry Rubin, who exhorted Yale students to "kill your parents," but she played a prominent activist role. When the dust settled, she was coeditor of a commemorative issue of Yale Review celebrating the Panthers and laced with cartoons of police officers depicted as pigs, including one who was decapitated and dismembered.
"this sloppy Michael Moore,"
Appropriate ? Not appropriate ? What would you think about the person who said this ?
Wasn't there some "preacher" Hillry hooked up with that sent her to the convention???
OK. I don't use "Hitlery," but I do enjoy calling her "The Hildebeast." Is that OK?
I think they got it from us.
They did get the phrase GOON SQUAD from us, back a few months ago when NEWSMAX spoke of Hillary's goon squads, they got that from us.

I suppose I am guilty, but then I am in good company... Winston Churchill warned the world about Hitler, but he was ridiculed. Some people have the aura of danger about them. Hillary, McCain, Gore, Dean, Alec Baldwin, Rosie D., are all dangerous people, if they ever had total control.... for that matter, most people with total control are dangerous, but the ones that scream their heads off in public are particularly dangerous.
"If you think that Hillary Clinton would start murdering millions of people if she had the chance, or try to conquer the world, you are either a maniac or an idiot."
What about the fact that she supports those leaders that do murder millions of their own people? What about the fact that if it was up to her, Americans would not be allowed to protect themselves? What about the fact that she does support the killing of thousands in this country by her support of abortion?
Son, wake up or grow up. I am also Jewish and calling Hillary Hitlery is not far from the truth. She is a Social Democrat whose ideology is a cross between Hitler and Stalin. She is someone to be feared and loathed, but not respected. She stole FBI files on her opponents, created a network of syncophants that do her dirty work and is firmly entrenched without regard for what her political opponents might do or say. She is a polarizing individual that is not only dangerous but brings out the worst in her allies.
Calling her Hitlery would to her friends be an endearing term.
Hear! Hear! The RAT term is so much easier to spell than the full word which is a lie anyway because that party is about anything other than democracy. RAT is as descriptive as I can come to the real nature of communist sympathizers, socialists and anarchists who bind themselves together under the democrat umbrella . I admit that the balance of the RAT party is stigmatized along with the rest but that is unfortunate and they can still opt to take their party back from the anti-Americans who now dominate it.
I certainly don't advocate stooping to DU's level. But to act like wimps, pansies and milquetoasts so as to be thought "goody goodies" is a sure fire way to lose not only this election but the WOT and the culture war. (*note tagline).
The reason liberalism/leftism has gain the ascendency it has is precisely because conservatives acted like the abovementioned wimps, pansies and milquetoasts far too long. It's not becuase we were too "harsh" or "meanspirited". It's because conservatives of all stripes had no spines or testicular fortitude.
GREATLY AGREE.
THX.
I do see plenty of merit in calling a spade a spade;
an idiot an idiot--when they are evil traitors in the public eye--and sometimes when they just seem to bend over backwards trying to prove it with idiotic statements supportive of evil and suicidal choices;
a demon a demon;
and a traitorous bwitch . . .
there I go again . . .
Why are you spamming threads with this hoax photo?
Hoax. No more, please.
