Four Million Lives are at Stake
National Review Online ^ | August 27, 2004 | Paul Marshall

When our political talk seems to be about every war except the one we are in, it is important to be reminded that we really are now at war, against a brutal enemy, and millions of lives are at stake. One salutary reminder comes in Alan Cullison's illuminating article, "Inside Al-Qaeda's Hard Drive," in the current issue of The Atlantic.

Cullison details the contents of an al Qaeda computer left behind when its owners fled Kabul in the face of advancing American and Northern Alliance forces.... [S]ome of the information on the computer is deeply chilling — for example, the repetition of the jihadists' intent to kill four million Americans.

The computer had been used by bin Laden and other al-Qaeda leaders, and contains an unfinished justification of the 9/11 attacks on America. This essay, "The Truth about the New Crusade: A Ruling on the Killing of Women and Children of the Non-Believers," is written by Ramzi bin al-Shibh, who worked with Khalid Sheikh Muhammad in organizing those attacks. It argues that "the sanctity of women, children, and the elderly is not absolute" and concludes that "in killing Americans who are ordinarily off limits, Muslims should not exceed four million non-combatants, or render more than ten million of them homeless."

This is not the only time that al Qaeda has announced a target of four million. In June 2002, its spokesman, Suleiman Abu Gheith, published an article on the alneda website that claimed: "We have the right to kill four million Americans — 2 million of them children — and to exile twice as many and wound and cripple hundreds of thousands."

It doesn't get more mainstrean/lib than The Atlantic Monthly. I find this story very disturbing, all the more disturbing because I hadn't heard a thing about it before reading this NRO piece.

My first hearing it too, and I believe the Al Queda's of this world are very serious and we should be prepared to defend ourselves. THIS is no time to have John Kerry for President, our very lives are at stake here, this is NOT JUST AN ELECTION.

There is a new book out called Osama's Revenge by Paul L. Williams. If you want to check it out you can to to www.prometheusbooks.com. It also gives the same convincing evidence that Osama's goal is to kill 4M of us!

"But in the midst of a war, the search for political advantage needs always to be sobered by the realization that we live under the threat of mass murder. We have active enemies who state emphatically that they will gladly die in order to kill millions of us and, explicitly, two million children."

I don't think John Kerry would want to see this happen. However, I don't think for one minute he has the strength of character, or vison or committment to this country to prevent it or to even try in any serious way. I know I'm supposed to "honor" his military service, but it appears to me that he lied to obtain at least his first Purple Heart and cut and ran out of Vietnam just as fast as he could. What he did when he came back is despicable beyond words. Do I trust him to defend America? Not for one minute.

John Kerry will be a figurehead for the UN, and he won't take a toilet break without their permission. If we allow him to be elected, we will no longer be a superpower or a military force in the world. Kerry will sell us down the river as he did the Vietnam Vets, that is WHY, those who understand, are opposing him so vehemently. The SwiftBoatVeterans are still serving their country, no longer in uniform. They are still trying to save us, and we had better help them!!

This is the most important election of our lifetime. The one with Al Goron was very important, and this is more so!
We need to be STUFFIN MAILBOXES WITH FLYERS OF TRUTH, if you know democrats, independents who might vote republican if they had some truth, make up a flyer and distribute it, I am going to be spending October enlightening my community, and others.

There are probably tens of thousands words by Osama Bin Laden himself detailing lots of threats. They were taken from his speeches and written down. Many have been translated into English but we don't hear anything about those either. As inept as our CIA appears they may not have looked at most of them.

Osama should open an abortion clinic - he'd be up to 4 million in no time.

Good for you. Couldn't agree more.

4 million? I had never heard this. This kind of thing brings me back my rant about the media spending too much time on "fluff" and not enough on terrorism.

It boggles my mind to think of the anti-Muslim frenzy that would be whipped up in this Country if even a few hundred thousand Americans are killed, let alone millions. Bye-Bye Louie and your minions and quite possibly Mecca itself.

Not exceed 4 million.

That's not cold. They call themselves religious.

You got it, if the American People knew this information they might not be so quick to want Kerry for President, hence the reason the media is NOT telling it.

You're right. The Atlantic is hardly a Bush mouthpiece, and to see this article there means somebody in RAT world is waking up to reality. Scary stuff, and we'd better get series about fighting this war with both hands and the gloves off.

There was also a good (long of course) and not very biased article in the New Yorker, it was a bit confusing though. It started out about being how the Islamists use the internet, but after that it got kind of all over the place. I was going to try and look for it on line, I might still do so. I'm not sure what they've got on their site.

Gosh, I just threw out my copy of The New Yorker. I'd saved it, meaning to read that article, but my mini dachsies kept knocking it on the floor, and my bedroom needed cleaning, so out it went. I knew I wouldn't have time to read it. But delighted to hear a wee light is shining in Babylon on the Hudson town.

Just one city, either in New York, or California, or maybe Chicago.... And the democrats would definitely lose the Whitehouse.... Terrorists and those with Nukes rarely target the American who is republican in the heartland, but rather choose to inflict carnage upon those areas housing the democrats, e.g., cities.

How is this article getting overlooked here? It is enough to rattle all our chains.
