Sounds like a deal buster and cause for the arrest of Sadr.

While you never know how the Iraqis will react to things...I'd think that finding dead Iraqis killed by Sadr will really piss off the majority of moderate Iraqis.

The bodies would abrogate any deals made aforehand and would make it possible for Al Sadr to be seized, tried, and executed/imprisoned.

I hope they go that route.

They should see that he is a threat to their power.

Now, now, these bodies were actually those of Abu Garib victims, killed by the Americans, and the good cleric was just holding them until he could get them to their families. I am sure the NYT et al will not find anything out of order with this and it certainly does not appear fit to print.

" At least 25 bodies of executed civilians and police have been found in the basement of a religious court set up by rebel cleric Moqtadr al Sadr, according to AFP news agency."

This is the first article which I haven't seen this joint referred to as "the holiest shrine in Shia islam."

What a coincidence!

A deal was reached? After weeks of breathless reporting about the siege why haven't I heard anything before now about this deal to end it?? Jeez.

Some of the bodies had been mutilated or burned, according to the reports.

It is important to note that panties were not used here as a means of torture.

Dear Lord! NO! Did any of them have panties on their heads?

On a series note, I hope Sistani turns him and his people over to the Iraqi government for trial.

At least 25 bodies of executed civilians and police have been found in the basement of a religious court set up by rebel cleric Moqtadr al Sadr, according to AFP news agency.

Don't expect to see much coverage (if any) of this embarrassing & inconvenient detail in the MSM.

An Iraqi police officer inspects the area where about 10 bodies were discovered in a maverick religious court run by rebel Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's followers in the southern city of Najaf, Iraq Friday Friday Aug. 27, 2004. Al-Sadr's office in Najaf set up the court, which ordered arrests and meted out punishments outside of religious and legal authorities. Local Iraqi officials have in the past demanded the court be shut down and all prisoners freed. (AP Photo/Khalid Mohammed)

But it's a "holy" court, so it's off limits.

My question: What responsibility does Ayatollah AL-Sistani bear for letting this murderous wretch go free?
