Political Wire got an advance look at the new Los Angeles Times poll showing President Bush "moving slightly" ahead of Sen. John Kerry "for the first time this year." Bush had the support of 49% of registered voters, compared to 46% for Kerry.
The newspaper's analysis indicates Kerry "has been nicked by attacks on his service in Vietnam."
The "small shift" from last month's poll "is within the poll's margin of error. But it fits with other findings in the Times Poll showing the electorate edging toward Bush over the past month on a broad range of measures, from support for his handling of Iraq to confidence in his leadership and honesty."
Independent voters split evenly, but Bush's "tentative new advantage" seems to be "his greater success at onsolidating his base. While just 3% of voters who call themselves Republicans say they will vote for Kerry, Bush is drawing 15% just over one-seventh of all Democrats, and fully one-fifth 20% of Democrats who consider themselves moderate or conservative, the poll found."
Considering how aggressively the LA Times manipulates its polling for political purposes, this may just be their poll that sets up a "huge post-convention bust" for President Bush.
Just goes to show ya: It's the TV, stupid!
-media raising polls - have you seen this happen before?
Hey, did you call??
You hit the nail on the head. There is SO much material on Kerry that STILL hasn't been unleashed. If we can't utterly destroy his campaign the fault is ours.
The MSM is going to just roll over and take this lying down. They will come up with something to level the playing field once again. Hopefully, W will get enough momentum out of the Convention that it will be hard to stop him.
Good question, I would like the answer to that one also. I find it difficult to believe that this poll is anything but national.
This is a national poll. I'd like to see some weightings of Dems, Pubs and Indies in this poll. If Bush is taking 15% of the Dems and Kerry only 3% of Pubs, and Bush's lead is only 3 points, methinks LaTimes oversampled Dems again. I can't do that math.
That's OK, Kerry can put some Neosporin on it and put in for another purple heart.
The problem is the MSM can't roll over.... they can only go so far before they smell blood in the water.. and when they smell blood I don't care what political persuation there is, they will be a feeding frenzy as they all want their part of the story and awards.
Remember the impeachment? MSM tried to ignore it, but once it broke and it was obvious what was going on, the feeding frenzy began.
Mark my words, when Kerry is being decimated by his VVFW acts and down, the MSM will have no problem kicking him. And Blogs and other outlets that just weren't really there in 2000 will be all over it as well.
Are you kidding? Wait until the 9/11 ads from 927s start and the Edwards ambulence chasing series and the Kerry coddling Commies and the refusal to support removing Saddam from Kuwait series.
There is almost an infinite amount of crap to smack this bum with. He will be squawling like a 8 month old for the next three months.
No more than it did the other day when I heard it.
Can I really feel this joy! Oh God, please God, let it be
true, and lasting!
In that case, this poll was somewhat predictable. Looking at the last gallup and a couple of other polls, a trend was already emerging. Even in polls of registered voters (which favor Kerry) they were already showing a tie. Also, the Iowa electronic market is showing a large break-out for Bush of about 5%. And the convention hasn't even started. And no, I don't think this is a media dirty trick. The trends and indicators, including tradesports.com, were already showing this.
No, the ice line is a look-back to Bill Clinton and Juanita Broaddrick.
No problem with your argument, Dog. But trends are trends. IMO (aside from the 10% attributable to leftist media bias, which is currently not retrievable), Kerry HAS IMO been hit to the tune of 3-5%. IMO, after the 'Pubs convention, GW will be up by 6% and that will hold through the election. Once folks make up their mind, they don't want to change. It will be very difficult for Kerry the UnMagnificent to convince folks that he is not a flip-flopper (politically expedient, to the more educated audience) or weak on national defense. He is going to be hammered mercilessly (as will GW). Look for the next sixty days to be brutal beyond anything we have ever seen.
Most fire hydrants in Chicago would cast more intelligent votes than the zombies who vote RAT.
