A lawyer for President Bush who also has advised Swift Boat Veterans for Truth resigned today from Bush's campaign. Meanwhile, a lawyer who works for Democratic National Committee and the Bush-hating group MoveOn.org refused to quit either organization.
"I cannot begin to express my sadness that my legal representations have become a distraction from the critical issues at hand in this election," Benjamin Ginsberg wrote in a resignation letter, which Bush's campaign released.
"I feel I cannot let that continue, so I have decided to resign as national counsel to your campaign to ensure that the giving of legal advice to decorated military veterans, which was entirely within the boundaries of the law, doesn't distract from the real issues upon which you and the country should be focusing."
However, Democrat lawyer Joe Sandler insisted there was nothing wrong with working for DNC as well as for MoveOn.
And Kerry continues to refuse to fire Zach Exley, a campaign staffer who was a director for MoveOn.org, just as Kerry's former campaign manager Jim Jordan refuses to quit the pro-Kerry Media Fund.
The Associated Press reported today, "Ginsberg said Tuesday he never told the Bush campaign what he discussed with the veterans group, or vice versa, and didn't advise the group on ad strategies."
The group "came to me and said, 'We have a point of view we want to get into the First Amendment debate right now. There's a new law. It's very complicated. We want to comply with the law, will you keep us in the bounds of the law?'" he told the wire service. "I said yes, absolutely, as I would do for anyone."
These people are hypocrites of the worst sort.
Also, when is the press going to clue in on the fact that sKerry's phone calls to the Swift Boat Vets yesterday, was illegal.
How is that illegal?
Don't kill me.. just want to be educated.
It is illegal for a political candidate to be in contact with members of a 527 group. Whether the 527 supports or opposes the candidate is irrelevant, the candidates cannot have any contact with an outside group involved in the election.
Repeat that 10 times a day for 30 days and you too can be a proud DUmmie.
/sarcasm off
If true then Kerry should be prosecuted and there should be demands that he resign his Senate seat. Why is our side (a bunch of neutered twirps) unable to fight?
I presume that Kerry's lawyers would argue that speaking to individual members of a group is different from having direct contact with the group.

This actually was a smart move by Ginsberg and the Republicans. The stupid hypocritical Democrats refuse to follow suit, and the public knows this.
If this is true, then you have loop hole large enough to drive a mack truck through.
I don't think there's a loophole. I'm just certain that sKerry did it in such a way that any criminal complaint would go to a leftist federal court circuit which will do anything to defend their comrades.
I don't think it is. But the 'Rats know full well that if they can argue a "grey area", even if its BS, that the courts will go along with it.
' This actually was a smart move by Ginsberg and the Republicans. The stupid hypocritical Democrats refuse to follow suit, and the public knows this. '
It was the proper move under the circumstances. If Ginsberg had remained, the litany from the hypocrites (including the media) would have only continued and increased.
The situation should unceasingly be set before the public; and the hypocrisy of Kerry and his minions and their 527 ad forcefully pointed out. This is an opportunity rather than a setback.

This is a "oops" ping.
