Minneapolis Star Tribune censors IPW cartoonist

IowaPresidentialWatch.com’s political cartoonist, Linda Eddy, has been censored by the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Eddy distributes her cartoons by email and regularly sends them to the Tribune. Her latest, showing John Kerry during his 1971 Senate testimony, is titled “Silencing Veterans since 1971” and shows an American soldier in Kerry’s hand, his head covered.

Tribune Deputy Editorial Page Editor B. James Boyd responded to Eddy’s latest cartoon by banning any future editorials from the artist:

“Please take me off your e-mail list. Your latest statements about Kerry are too much. He said no such thing in 1971. His whole testimony was an appeal on behalf of veterans.”

Eddy responded to Boyd’s email:

“You are further proof of the silencing of any dissenting view on what John Kerry really said back in 1971. You are further proof of the denial of Freedom of Speech to those with whom you disagree.”

End of story? No! Back came yet another response from Tribune editor B. James Boyd – sent not once, but twice to Eddy:

“read kerry's testimony. Find one complete quote which supports your
claim. Just one.”

Eddy’s response:

“Obviously you are incapable of doing your own good, hard journalistic work.
As soon as I clear my schedule, I will respond... probably by tomorrow.”

The following is the actual email exchanges between Eddy and Minneapolis Star Tribune editor B. James Boyd:

I will gladly remove you from the email list.

You are further proof of the silencing of any dissenting view on what John Kerry really said back in 1971. You are further proof of the denial of Freedom of Speech to those with whom you disagree.

I just hate it when Media like you continue to promote lies. John Kerry's whole testimony was NOT an appeal on behalf of veterans. Kerry accused American troops in Vietnam of committing henious, barbaric, criminal acts on a regular, daily basis. He lied about American troops in Vietnam, he lied about what was happening in Vietnam, he lied about going into Cambodia on Christmas 1968... As the veterans say, Kerry lied while good men died. The fact is that American soldiers hated Kerry back in 1971 for what he falsely testified about them, and still hate Kerry to this day for these lies.

Kerry was a part of the meeting in Detroit, Michigan, where Veterans Against the War through the financial support of Jane Fonda and her friends (in something that has come to be known as Winter Soldier) gathered the information that Kerry gave before the Senate committee in 1971.

It has since been proven that most (if not all) of that personal testimony was not true and many giving testimony were not veterans. Furthermore, most of those who were veterans had not been to Vietnam. It has further been proven that among Kerry's board members of Veterans Against the War most had not been to Vietnam and many of them lied about their service record.

Then there is this whopper by Kerry - John Kerry said on April 18, 1971 on NBC's "Meet the Press":

"There are all kinds of atrocities, and I would have to say that, yes, yes, I committed the same kind of atrocities as thousands of other soldiers have committed in     that I took part in shootings in free fire zones. I conducted harassment and interdiction fire. I used 50 calibre machine guns, which we were granted and ordered     to use, which were our only weapon against people. I took part in search and destroy missions, in the burning of villages."

If it were true, then Kerry is a war criminal.

The real great lie is that there is a free, fair and objective press. You have once again proven that is not true. You, the press and John Kerry continue to silence America's Vietnam veterans. This henious denial of Freedom of Speech must stop.

I will see what I can do to share your denial of truth and handling of a dissenting view with the rest of the world.

By the way, my cartoons have been chosen for exhibition by the Arizona State Museum of Art for the exhibit "Art and Democracy" -- the location of the last presidential debate.

sincerely,

Linda Eddy

Good.

Is this editor so biased that it will not recognize the lies that Kerry made at the Fullbright hearing on Nam?

If so his advertisers should find another place to advertise.

The problem is his career has been built on the lies that Kerry/Fonda stared decades ago. If he and the other mediots admit that Kerry lied decades ago, then they admit that they are not professional journalists for not investigating the original lies.

Open Letter from VietNam POW USMC/USAF Col. George "Bud"
Col. George "Bud" Day ^ | August 2004 | Col. George "Bud" Day

Posted on 08/25/2004 9:09:29 AM PDT by AFPhys

"I was a POW of the Vietnamese in Hanoi in 1971, and am aware that the testimony of John Kerry, the actions of Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden, and the radical left; all caused the Commies to conclude that if they hung on..they would win."... "His stories to the Senate committee were absolute lies..fabrications..perjury..fantasies, with NO substance. That dark shadow has defamed the entire Vietnam War veteran population, and gave "Aid and Comfort" to our enemies..the Vietnamese Communists."

Dear Joe Scarborough: About John Kerry for President and the Swiftboat vets

The major issue in the Swiftboat stories is, and always has been, what John Kerry did in 1971 after he returned from Vietnam.

Kerry cast a long dark shadow over all Vietnam Veterans with his outright perjury before the Senate concerning atrocities in Vietnam. His stories to the Senate committee were absolute lies..fabrications..perjury..fantasies, with NO substance. That dark shadow has defamed the entire Vietnam War veteran population, and gave "Aid and Comfort" to our enemies..the Vietnamese Communists.

Kerry's stories were outright fabrications, and were intended for political gain with the radical left..McGovern, Teddy and Bobby Kennedy followers, Jane Fonda, Tom Hayden and the radical left who fantasized that George McGovern was going to be elected in 1972. Little wonder that returning soldiers from Vietnam were spit upon and castigated as "baby killers". A returned hero just said so.

Kerry cut a dashing figure as a war hero, lots of medals, and returned home because of multiple war wounds..even a silver star. His senate testimony confirmed what every hippie had been chanting on the streets.."Hey hey LBJ..How many kids did you kill today"? Kerry obviously was really running for political office, without announcing it...in 1971.

Until John O'Neill, himself a Swiftboat Commander, spoke out before the 1972 election against Kerry's outright deceptions, there was no one from the Swiftboat scene that could contradict Kerry' self serving lies.

I was a POW of the Vietnamese in Hanoi in 1971, and am aware that the testimony of John Kerry, the actions of Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden, and the radical left; all caused the Commies to conclude that if they hung on..they would win.

North Vietnamese General Bui Tin commented that every day the Communist leadership listened to world news over the radio to follow the growth of the anti-war movement. Visits to Hanoi by Jane Fonda and Ramsey Clark gave them confidence to hold in the face of battlefield reverses. The guts of it was that propaganda from the anti-war group was part of the Commie combat strategy.

While the Commies were hanging on, innumerable U.S. soldiers, sailors, marines and air force members were being killed in combat. Every battle wound to Americans after Kerry's misdirected testimony is related to Kerry's untruthfulness. John Kerry contributed to every one of these deaths with his lies about U.S. atrocities in Vietnam. He likewise defamed the U.S. to our allies and our supporters.

His conduct also extended the imprisonment of the Vietnamese POWs, of which I was one. I am certain of at least one POW death after his testimony, which might have been prevented with an earlier release of the POWs some 2 years after his 1971 testimony.

My friend and roommate Senator John S. McCain denounced the Swiftboat video by John O'Neill. I have a different opinion than my good friend John McCain. The Swiftboat tape is highly relevant evidence that replies directly to John Kerry's ongoing series of misrepresentation, and those tapes and the cable news shows are the only major contradictions to Kerry's postulating as a war hero.

The print press..Washington Post, NY Times, etc are avoiding the Swiftboat story because they want a democratic president.

John Kerry opened up his character as a war hero reporting for duty (Dem Convention), with a hand salute..and his band of brothers.. of which he was the chief hero. Most of his convention speech was about John Kerry..Vietnam war hero, and his band of brothers, John Kerry's character is not only fair game, it is the primary issue. His response to Swiftboats is like Bill Clinton's "is", as an answer to his lack of character.

The issue is trust. Can anyone trust John Kerry?? "Never lie, cheat, or steal" is the West Point motto. Should we elect another proven liar to lead us in wartime???

I draw a direct comparison to General Benedict Arnold of the Revolutionary War, to Lieutenant John Kerry. Both went off to war, fought, and then turned against their country. General Arnold crossed over to the British for money and position. John Kerry crossed over to the Vietnamese with his assistance to the anti-war movement and his direct liaison with the Vietnamese diplomats in Paris. His reward. Political gain. Senator. United States.

His record as a senator for twenty years has been pitiful. Conjure up, if you will, one major bill that he has sponsored.

John Kerry for President? Ridiculous. Unthinkable. Unbelievable. Outrageous.

Col. George "Bud" Day Medal of Honor Vietnam POW 1967-1973 Attorney 1949-2004 USMC- USA-USAF

Newspapers receive many if not most of their press releases and other submissions via E-mail. Many of these are bulk e-mail lists, but not spam since they go to a carefully targeted group of editors and reporters.

Our paper gets press releases, stories and photos via e-mail on a daily basis.

Mr. Boyd can certainly ask her to stop sending in submissions, but she has a perfect right complain about it as well.

Tonk, what a wonderful situation FR has provided.

This SwiftVet mission, movement and priority ... would never have endured without JimRobs inspired place and the way YOU, CHAD, INTERESTING TIMES and others kept this issue on the front burner.

I remember you guys getting some "This is a bad idea" mojo pressure at the time. But Tonk, I'll never forget the way you stood up to your critics and said "You want pressure? Try being known as the "Human Tripod" among the supermodel set. Try telling a passion crazy Belly Girl you're really more of whatever she sees after her fouth shot of Absynth. I told you it's easy!" Game, set, match!

I'm really jazzed about FR right now. This SwiftVet movement is how Free Republic was conceived to work. Old Media lardasses and liars .... "GTFOH"* Useful Information Overload, Media Snoopers, Honest and Precisely Presented Veterans, Community bonding and financial contribution. Moving the story forward on our own, being a resource of fact and breadth and humor .... just like the "Marry Me Andy Gibb" aging bipolar teenybopper site that nobody - paging VICTORIA PRINCIPAL - has the gumption to close down.

Tonk ... I've told JR this and I believe it. Your efforts, Chad's efforts, IT's efforts, Belly Girl's efforts, all the MILFs and Kournakova/Coulters we've endured here... shhhh ... just may have changed World History. If Kerry wins ... America dies. Kerry was winning. Now he's like the Wicked Witch, whom he is married to. Melting. Melting. Freepers said no f'n way. The momentum was bitchslapped. I'm convinced of that. Kerry won't win now.

Without Free Repubic, there'd be no SwiftVet success, no exposure, no public introduction and no John Kerry gutlessly retreating like the Agarn led "Wild Eagle's Presents 'Almost an Indian Warrior'" improv troupe at the first sign of real gunfire.

Free Republic is an awesome force when correctly utilized. There's nothing like this place on the internet. This place, as evidenced by the Swiftee impact, is a force multiplying powerhouse that can change our world, and our future.

There is no more "elite media". At this point, Jim's 1997 dream is realized. He's beat the unbeatable old media liars - and he somehow ditched yapping 'One Who Knows'. Two for two!

*GTFO = "Be sure to have Jenny at the front desk stamp your parking stub before you Get the **** Out!"

MANY do much more than me.

I am fortunate that I am in a position that allows me

Thus I have time to FReep at the same time.

I do what I can do to defeat Kerry for some very personal reasons.

Dave's apparently not here. YOU suggested the paper might have been being even handed. I have no such illusions. Constitutional freedom of the press remains, but in case you haven't noticed the established press which unquestionably drives the opinions of MILLIONS of reasonanable , honest , busy voters, has become a cartel of like-minded syncophants, repeating Pravda like certain "truths". If, as any enlightened person could reasonably presume. there are indeed several sides to any political argument, show me the MAJOR newspapers which seem to support, in their "news" articles any opinion other than that defined by the NY,LA Times and the DC post.
