Later this morning, Max Cleland and Jim Rasmann will arrive uninvited at President Bush's ranch in Crawford to hand deliver a letter signed by nine Democratic senators urging the President to 'recognize this blatant attempt at character assassination' and publicly condemn the swift boat ads.
The letter was signed by Sens. Daniel Inouye, Tom Carper, Jon Corzine, Tom Harkin, Fritz Hollings, Frank Lautenberg, Jack Reed, Bill Nelson, and Jeff Bingaman.
Camp Kerry, which alerted the media of their plans last night, concedes that Cleland and Rassman will 'likely be turned away' --something we're not sure the Bush/Cheney team would allow to pass.
Sensing an anti-Bush backlash on a story that caught John Kerry flat footed a week ago, however, this move will generate the pictures needed to sustain the story for another news cycle.
With every passing day, new reports are fueling Camp Kerry's hopes that they can turn this issue into a positive.

Yep. Silly stunts like this won't impress the American people. But if they want to keep Vietnam alive each day, hey who am I to argue with them.
Max is as big a phony as Kerry....but when he self-inflicts a wound he goes all the way...No rice in the butt for Ole Max.
Carl Cameron just reported on Fox that the Bush people have a letter to give to their unexpected visitors.
Cameron read a bit and the gist is that they share the concern about vets questioning other vets about their honorable service, therefore they have some questions about comments Kerry has made in the past...
It is a CNN report..
What? No little Tommy D.? Oh, that's right. He's up for re-election in mostly conservative SD.
43 should have Mr. Gallanti answer the door.
President Bush is giving a letter back...can't remember all of it.
Does not question Kerrys record, BUT DOES QUESTION HIS STATEMENT TO CONGRESS
Carl Cameron just read part of it and it's devastating.
BRING IT ON!!!!!!
Bush should politely accept the letter and say that he has no control over SBVFT. He should then say that he understands completely Kerry's feelings since he (Bush) has been subject to such ads for over a year from much larger and better funded organizations such as Moveon.org.
The libs in the media are reporting Kerry's self-serving spin as objective fact. If this were really hurting Bush, the Kerry people would drop it. But its hurting them so they want to make the President take responsibility for their own self-inflicted problem. That dog won't hunt.
LMAO! Return fire...
What is it that CNN doesn't get about coordination with the 527's.
Want it both ways. No surprise there.
I keep hoping that the American people are seeing through this.
Kerry and Shrum know they can't stop the story; the media tried and failed to do this. They are merely tring to spin it in a way that somehow benefits Kerry. I don't think it will work-especially with Kerry looking so pale and miserable. The guy looks sick. Could you imagine Kerry facing a real crisis-like 9-11?
Harkin wasn't in Vietnam, by his own admission!
wow! that is great!
I agree - never underestimate the stupidity of the American Sheep.
"Kerry/Shrum are suicidal for keeping this story moving forward, IMO..but let's not get in their way"
Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
If this story "goes away" whats left? Kerry can't talk about being a Vietnam Vet....which leaves him back where he started, the Most Liberal Senator in the Senate.
And we all know a far left liberal is unpalatable to average Americans post 9/11.
Kerry's trapped in a web of his own making. All he is demonstrated now is that he will used crippled old men in his quest for the Presidency.
As for Cleland, he's a nutcase in denial. He is no longer in the Senate because of his voting record, yet he pretends he lost his job because of "smears"....gee, anyone else see a pattern?
Kerry's no different than Cleland, except Kerry created the "grenade" thats blown up his campaign with his insistence on running as a Nam Vet, despite what he did to Nam Vets back in 1971.
Carl Cameron just read it on air? ROTFLOL!
what's this? so Bush is jumping in on the side of the second ad, the one with Kerry's "genghis khan" testimony?
This is very good news. The past must not be forgotten. Still too much healing that needs to take place.
