Later this morning, Max Cleland and Jim Rasmann will arrive uninvited at President Bush's ranch in Crawford to hand deliver a letter signed by nine Democratic senators urging the President to 'recognize this blatant attempt at character assassination' and publicly condemn the swift boat ads.
The letter was signed by Sens. Daniel Inouye, Tom Carper, Jon Corzine, Tom Harkin, Fritz Hollings, Frank Lautenberg, Jack Reed, Bill Nelson, and Jeff Bingaman.
Camp Kerry, which alerted the media of their plans last night, concedes that Cleland and Rassman will 'likely be turned away' --something we're not sure the Bush/Cheney team would allow to pass.
Sensing an anti-Bush backlash on a story that caught John Kerry flat footed a week ago, however, this move will generate the pictures needed to sustain the story for another news cycle.
With every passing day, new reports are fueling Camp Kerry's hopes that they can turn this issue into a positive.

Ah yes, Mercurio, and you will do everything you can to make it so.
Let Cleland come up and push him up on the porch and let the cameras roll. Let Cleland give his screed about this and that and present whatever bogus letter he has. Then cut his legs off, figurately.
Ask Cleland whether he wants to retract his statements that W is a coward, a liar and a traitor. Ask him if he wants to retract the ads from Moveon that compared W to Hitler - created by the same guy who is now working on Kerry's campaign. Ask Cleland if he really wants to end soft money or whether he just wants W's help is quieting the demons in Kerry's past.
Cleland will bluster, of course, but you can't sit on a man's porch and not apologize for calling him all the thing Cleland did without looking like a major league Clymer. And if Cleland doesn't act penitent enough, you ask him to leave because he doesn't have the dignity and manners to be worthy of the welcome into someone's home.
The Swiftboat thing is coming near running its course anyways so this would be a great impetus to end the cycle from the campaigns perspective. Whatever else goes on after that, the campaign will have said its piece and Kerry will have to mop up the rest.
He does look like a cadaver, doesn't he? Eyes sunken in to his skull.
Also, The Crawford Ranch is home to President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush and their families. Invited guests only are allowed on the grounds and inside their private home.
President Bush has all the right in the world to not address these people at his private home. If they want to present the President with a letter, they should have done it before he left for Texas.
Aren't these people something though? It proves over and over and over how far they will go to win. They are in a very desparation mode. Imagine...gooing to the President's private home (or attempting to)uninvited because their candidate is in deep doo doo. I am embarassed for their campaign. They are BEGGING in the worst possible wayv for Kerry.
Think folks, the Swift Boat Vets MUST be telling the truth. If they weren't John Kerry would have let this whole thing go but he hasn't. He had to call a vet to ask why the other people are against him. Now he is sending a few people with a letter to ask President Bush to tell the vets to take these ads off the air? This is ludicrous and shows how desperate and how in trouble John Kerry and his campaign is. Imagine...on the eve of the RNC...these fools take on this trek.
This should prove to the AMerican people who have any doubts that the Vets must be telling the truth and that they are standing their ground no matter what. This should also prove to the American people that John Kerry truly is UNFIT FOR COMMAND. I wonder if he would send a delegation to the home of the enemy to ask them to denounce something the opposition said about the USA? He is weak. He is not credible. He is in DEEP TROUBLE and this is only going to send him into DEEPER TROUBLE. A very sad, pitiful man indeed.
He has had everything in his life that he has ever wished for or dreamed of. I guess he thought as long as he "wanted" the Presidency that it would automatically be his because he was in Vietnam. Wow. He's finding out differently now though. As much as many of us desire something... Sen Kerry is finding out that we cannot always have what we want. Even if you are rich!
Ya took the thought right outta MY brain here. Exactly his M.O.
I'm typing this at 1:17 est.
By now you are toast if you didn't put your flame proof suit on immediately after posting. ;)
That's okay ... Mikey liked it.
Well, we know that Rassmann likes chocolate chip cookies, because he was eating one the day he fell off the boat.
And folks wonder why we think the media is slanted!
Only after he was found out and made to.
FOX News says that they are probably going to send them back to Crawford Middle school! ROTF
There is something wierd about Rassman. For a guy that only knew Kerry for a day or so, he sure is motivated. I'm sure he was happy that Kerry picked him up, but dependent what story you believe, he was close enough to swim to the other boats. Since Kerry ran downstream for 5KM. If you look at the map closely: http://www.nexus.net/~911gfx/vietnam/maps/nc48-15/nc48_15b.html there is a bend in the river which is less than 5KM from where the mine went off. So Kerry went round the bend, and why would Rassmann wait for him. As far as he knew Kerry was gone forever.
I expect the Band of Brothers to start to fall apart. Alston first then either Rassmann or Delbert Sandusky.
Wrong, wrong, wrong... For the past months THERE HAS BEEN A MYTH OF THE POLARIZATION OF THE ELECTORATE. As I've said over and over and over, very few pay close attention to politics. Now that they are learning the whole story due to the unavoidable sKerry situation, they will slowly change back to President Bush. Witness the new poll story:
"In a three-way race, Bush and Kerry both would get 43% if the election were held today, according to the poll taken Aug. 17-23. Independent Ralph Nader would get 5%. In a two-way race, Bush and Kerry deadlock at 44%.
"In the previous IBD/TIPP Poll, taken Aug. 2-5, shortly after the Democratic convention, Kerry led by three points in a three-way race and by six in head-to-head competition."
I continue to be amazed that even seasoned FReepers have bought that "polarized electorate" line that has been touted for so very long by the Old Media Fraudcasters, but many here have.
I continue to state, as I have since the end of the Demodog makeover convention, the election will go:
Have faith.
President Bush should invite this has-been in, accept the letter and give him his own letter asking that Kerry put an end to those Democratic front group 527's by asking them to cease and desist. But Kerry won't do it. He just wants to stop 527 groups that oppose him.
That would be awesome..great idea!
I agree. I think we may be talking a landslide election here...Bush may even win New Jersey-can you believe it?...Also I have friends in California who swear that Bush might carry the state if he spent a little money...I find that difficult to believe, but who knows?
That's a pretty good idea!
If the MSM weren't Kerry lapdogs, they would investigate how much the Kerry campaign is paying for him to travel around the country with the campaign. Not to mention the cost of the other "Band of Brothters."
