On May 4, a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth held a press conference in Washington, denouncing Kerry. It is possible Bush was taken by surprise by this. It is also possible the moon's made of blue cheese. Still, it is highly doubtful that Bush put the Swifties up to their attack. He didn't need to. They obviously hate Kerry's guts. All the President had to do was sit quietly and watch. Patience is the fisherman's friend.
Remember the patience of the poker player:
From GWB: HBS MBA --- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1070924/posts
One final note on George W. Bushs management style and his Harvard Business School background does not derive from the classroom, per se. One feature of life there is that a subculture of poker players exists. Poker is a natural fit with the inclinations, talents, and skills of many future entrepreneurs. A close reading of the odds, combined with the ability to out-psych the opposition, leads to capital accumulation in many fields, aside from the poker table.
By reputation, the President was a very avid and skillful poker player when he was an MBA student. One of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand. This is a pattern of behavior one sees repeatedly in George W. Bushs political career. He is not one to loudly proclaim his strengths at the beginning of a campaign. Instead, he bides his time, does not respond forcefully, a least at first, to critiques from his enemies, no matter how loud and annoying they get. If anything, this apparent passivity only goads them into making their case more emphatically.

This is one of the better columns I've read on the subject. I particularly liked this part:

So, the President comes off as the champion of upright McCain-Feingold reform, while Kerry is stuck with George Soros & Co.But only intelligent observers will realize this. Too bad there aren't enough voters who fit that category. That's the real problem!

But in politics, as in fishing, you don't have to be a genius. You just have to be smarter than the fish.

The Kerry campaign, awash in 527 money, proves that the whole McCain-Feingold structure is just another liberal fraud perpetrated by media hype.

Great read ping.
Everybody knows President Bush is a bass fisherman. But the President has spent most of August reeling in a more exotic specimen: the Giant New England Slack-Jaw. The 43rd President is often said by his critics to be a dunce. Maybe. But in politics, as in fishing, you don't have to be a genius. You just have to be smarter than the fish.

This was a great article! I was also reading a reply to a post yesterday that was saying Kerry looks worn down. With that in mind, I watched video clips from his speech yesterday, and sure enough, he looked like he hadn't slept and he was sweating liking he just got done running.
Side note: my sister-in-law said if Bush wins that she is leaving the country, so Nov. 3 I may have a fund drive to ensure she stays true to her word because it looks like Kerry is never going to shake this.

Bingo! Bush is not that dumb a fisherman. And John F*ckin's trying to wriggle off the hook he latched himself onto. Clever work for someone liberals dismiss as a dunce. Guess who'll have the last laugh in November? Have fun watching it play out, boys and girls.
