Muncie mayor extends ban to include U.S. flag

MUNCIE, Ind. Flags aren't allowed to be flown any longer at a city-run campground at Muncie -- including the U-S flag.

W-I-P-B-T-V in Muncie reports that police today passed out notices at Prairie Creek Reservoir campground saying that all flags must come down.

The U-S flag wasn't included in the city's original ban when it was imposed earlier this year. The city had banned Confederate flags and all others except U-S and P-O-W flags. The Indiana Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit against Muncie Mayor Dan Canan over the ban.

Friday, Canan broadened the ban to include all flags. He says he took the step to strengthen the city's legal position.

Some of the campers say they won't take their flags down.

There are times when H L Mencken's opinion of many Americans seems correct.

This country won't be here in 100 years.

We're self-destructing with lawsuits and political correctness.

I'd be hitching my trailer up and hauling it the hell out of Muncie. To hell with them. There are consequences for actions and I'd let my money do my voting by leaving the area.

Thanks, ACLU. Always nice to know trial lawyers like John Edwards have got out backs for us...it's just that we can do without the dagger you people always seem to be holding.

amen. add to that the oft-spoken, ubiquitous "all that is not mandatory is forbidden" and America is just a shell of herself.

The U.N. Flag Rules in all of the U.K.A. parks......

The U.N. is ready to turn the Pentagon in a massive U.N. Mosque.

This country won't be here in 100 years. I give it until 2012.

We're self-destructing with lawsuits and political correctness.

Lawsuits are just a manifestation. We are self-destructing because the traditional American values are abandoned by an average Joe and Jane, who no longer teach them to their children.

And all of that started with the "greatest generation," which was raised in the Depression and learned to thirst for material possessions. Having won WWII, that generation was untouchable and felt ENTITLED to live a purely materialistic life. It is then that the "American Dream" of owning a house was invented by the Association of Realtors. It is then that they started to ship their elderly parents to nursing homes. It is then that they raised the most egotistic generation ever, which had no concept of what made this country great, and which destroyed it in 1960s-70s when it "grew up."

Lawsuits? That's the least of your problems.

Looks like the only flag Canan will be flying is a solid white one.

What a spineless worm.

You'd guess wrong. The mayor is Republican.

Muncie is a conservative town for the most part and represented in the House by conservative Mike Pence. This not what I would expect here.

Its a weak deciscion, but I assume he had no interest in spending hundreds of thousands in city money that wasn't budgeted for. It is sad that many city and schools can not afford to defend themselves from frivilous attacks and retreat.

When I read about this in the Muncie Star Press I was so mad I couldn't see straight! Canan, the mayor, should resign for this or be forced out. I guess I always thought of Muncie as middle-leftist.
