No one's perfect. But in fairness to the Swiftees, their story has been consistent from Day One. Kerry's story changes with every telling. Of course its the last thing the mainstream media wants to admit - they're wrong. If they go down with Kerry, so be it.
This seems like a HE said....HE said piece......interesting parts, but with Kerry's reputation as a liar....not believable.
When has the Wa Post or NY Times come out with a headline of "Moveon.org accounts flawed" or "Farenheit 9-11 flawed?"
John, you need to read the linked Washington Post article in its entirety, and post your comments on this one. I might get banned for saying this, but I suspect after the Wall Street Journal, the Post is the best paper at this point in the Fruited Plain. The article seems "fair and balanced" to this ignoramus.
Funny how the Post never mentioned that.
Why is it that every time I read an article about that despicable, self-aggrandizing, lying, backstabbing seditious traitors heroism I flash on his reenactment of a scene from Viet Nam?
Hanoi John is walking out of a Jungle village. He is wearing full grunt (not normal PCF garb) uniform. He is carrying, in addition to his issue .45 an M-16. He is also wearing a bandolier of ammo across his chest in the best Rambo fashion.
The comPost is really going all out here.
I had thought they'd learned something from what the NYT had just gone through and were going to cut this kind of crap out.
But, obviously, electing Kerry is more important to them then good journalism.
Crap!

In September 2001, Kerry Said We Should Not Raise Taxes In An Economic Downturn.
"The first priority is the economy of our nation. And when you have a downturn in the economy, the last thing you do is raise taxes or cut spending. We shouldn't do either. We need to maintain a course that hopefully will stimulate the economy. . . . No, we should not raise taxes, but we have to put everything on the table to take a look at why we have this structural problem today. . . . you don't want to raise taxes." (NBC's "Meet The Press," September 2, 2001)In April 2002, Kerry Said He Wanted A Larger Tax Cut And Was "Not In Favor Of" A Repeal. CNN's Tucker Carlson: "Senator Kerry, . . . [many Democrats] [g]et a lot of political mileage out of criticizing [President Bush's tax cut], but nobody has the courage to say repeal it. Are you for repealing it?" Kerry: "It's not a question of courage. . . . And it's not an issue right now. We passed appropriately a tax cut as a stimulus, some $40 billion. Many of us thought it should have even maybe been a little bit larger this last year . . . . [T]he next tax cut doesn't take effect until 2004. If we can grow the economy enough between now and then, if we have sensible policies in place and make good choices, who knows what our choices will be. So it's simply not a ripe issue right now. And I'm not in favor of turning around today and repealing it." (CNN
In December 2002, Kerry Flip-Flopped. NBC's Tim Russert: "Senator . . . should we freeze or roll back the Bush tax cut?" Kerry: "Well, I wouldn't take away from people who've already been given their tax cut . . . . What I would not do is give any new Bush tax cuts. . . ." Russert: "So the tax cut that's scheduled to be implemented in the coming years . . . ." Kerry: "No new tax cut under the Bush plan. . . . It doesn't make economic sense." Russert: "Now, this is a change, because let me show you what you said in September of 2001 when I asked you the very same question." (NBC

O'Neill has always stated Kerry fled the scene.
Swift boat vets 1, Kerry 0.
The second explosion "blew me right off the boat," Rassmann recalled. Frightened that he might be struck by the propellers of one of the boats, he dived to the bottom of the river, where he dumped his weapons and rucksack. When he surfaced, he said, bullets were "snapping overhead," as well as hitting the water around him.
Today on the David Gold show (KSFO) I know that I heard again Mr. O'Neill say that there was firing from the shore for less than a minute.
Meanwhile as noted in the WaPo article the mine had just exploded, here was a second explosion -- probably not another mine but a RPG round -- and Rassmann is in the water.
nobody noticed what had happened to Rassmann. But then Medeiros [Kerry's boat], who was standing at the stern, saw him bobbing up and down in the water and shouted, "Man overboard." Around this time, crew members said, Kerry decided to go back to help the crippled 3 boat. It is unclear how far down the river Kerry's boat was when he turned around. It could have been anywhere from a few hundred yards to a mile.
So by the time Kerry's boat got back and according to Mr. O'Neill's estimate the enemy's firing would have stopped.
There was probably no way for Mr. Kerry and Mr. Rassmann to know that at the time but by conferring with the others later in the day they should have known it. IMO.
Kerry would go on to write, "Somehow we got him on board and I didn't get the bullet in the head that I expected, and we managed to move down near the 3 boat that was still crawling a snail-like zig-zag through the river."
I don't know how they write their action reports, did the others tell Kerry that the firing had stopped and -- as the WaPo said they were -- they were about to rescue Mr. Rassmann also.
Also, as asked by #71 on the first thread, "What happened to the 5000 METER gauntlet they had to run?"
Swift boat vets 2, Kerry 0.
The WaPo article seems to confirm that only one boat had to turn around and come back to get Rassmann -- all but one of the undamaged boats were still in the area and getting ready to retrieve him. Kerry did not lead the boats back to the scene.
Swift boat vets 3, Kerry 0.
So my question is, if the others explained to Mr. Kerry what happened while he was gone why does he insist there was enemy fire when he returned to the action?

This wasn't "Heroism", James was probably holding the dope and Kerry had to save it......
If the Swiftie's position is classified as "flawed" then Kerry's position should be classfied as "Outright Lie".
Does anyone have a link to that story?
Flawed with the TRUTH!
From the article (last paragraph): ""A lot of people just can't forgive and forget," countered Kerry crew member Medeiros. "He was a great commander. I would have no trouble following him anywhere."
Forgive and forget what?
