A Look at MoveOn.org and Swift Boat Vets For Truth
Patriot Paradox ^ | Nick Queen

Posted on 08/21/2004 9:20:58 AM PDT by sonsofliberty2000

The Kerry campaign just keeps coming with attack after attack on the Swifties. He calls them Republican activist and Bush cronies, but what about MoveOn.org? They attack Bush all the time with nary a whimper from the President. Perhaps he is thicker skinned? In any case lets look at these two 527s, info courtesy of opensecrets.org:

MoveOn.org:

OpenSecrets.org's description:

Begun in 1998 to protest the impeachment of President Clinton, the group has become a powerful political force since then. Its political action committee, the MoveOn PAC, spends millions of dollars to support the election of Democratic candidates. The MoveOn.org Voter Fund is raising soft money, which may be contributed in unlimited amounts, for TV ads in key battleground states that are critical of President Bush.

Oh, but wait. Soros also decided to donate to John Kerry! According to the OpenSecrets.org donor look-up he donated $2000 to the Kerry Campaign. Remember, however, that Soros is a Liberal and is not allowed scrutiny in his donations. Only Conservatives or people who support Bush are culpable.

Looking at the Swifties now:

OpenSecrets.org's description:

SBVT represents Vietnam Swift boat veterans who are critical of Democrat John Kerry's decision to make his military service a major part of his campaign for president. The group questions Kerry's record in Vietnam and denounces his anti-war activities following his military service. The group's donors include some major Republican contributors.

Yeah, they are the big bullies here. The issue is that Kerry can only attack the Swifties by saying they are associated with Bush, and in the end it won't work. Bush's connection to the Swift Boat Vets is the same as Kerry's to the MoveOn.org group. Kerry cannot prove a connection, and in the end it won't matter. His only defense is to attack the issues raised, and he will do no so thing.

Another thing to look at is the top 10 donors to 527 Committees. You'd expect huge rich rich rich Republicans to fill the top but you'd be wrong. Here they are:

Yeah, those 527 have NOTHING to do with helping Kerry.

Great post. This is the type of info that the GOP establishment should be revealing to the general public at every opportunity. An all out effort is needed to expose the people who are backing Kerry and the millions of dollars they've spent to attack the character, integrity and credibility of the President. When presented with the facts, most Americans are very capable of understanding the difference between expenditures of $65 million against Bush versus $500K against Kerry.

The implications are marvelous.

The Swift-vets get More Bang for Thier Bucks!

It is more affordable to tell the truth than pay for a lie.

Good research! I wondered why anyone bothers to donate the "maximum $2K" to F'n's campaign and quickly realized it's a pitiful attempt to camouflage their 527 big bucks. It's ironic how the fatcat Dims call President Bush secretive.

Perhaps something good will come out of this 527 controversy. CFR will be rescinded, McCain-Feingold and the SCOTUS be darned! (wishful thinking?)

Thank you!

That website, http://www.opensecrets.org, is a real jewel.

You can even put in a zip code and find out who is giving to whom right in your home area. (100% Republican here in my remote corner of the northeast Texas Piney Woods...)

IMHO, http://www.opensecrets.org should be a required bookmark for every FReeper who is interested in serious activism...

What is the name of the former Clinton lawyer who is an organizer of American's Coming Together? I have gone blank on his name and need it for a letter I am writing. He is the 3rd generation of a monied Democrat Family from New York. His father or grandfather was an intimate of FDR.

Thanks

HAROLD ICKES!!!!!!

Wonderful job!

It bugs me the most that those on our side who are all over the TV screen making silly arguments do not emphasize the huge disparity in funding of the Swift vets and MoveOn.

Occasionally there is a vague reference to Soros, but no specifics.

I want to hear them say, as of August 15, 2004:

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had Total Receipts: $158,750 and Total Expenditures: $60,403.

MoveOn.org had Total Receipts: $9,086,102 and Total Expenditures: $17,435,782.

Moveon.org subscribers exposed***Subscribers to MoveOn.org's mailing lists may have found their interest in the anti-Bush political site a matter of public record.

A Web page misconfiguration left dozens of the liberal political group's subscriber pages easily searchable through simple Google queries. Each page included a subscriber's name, e-mail address and the mailing lists to which he or she is subscribed. CNET News.com confirmed that several related searches turned up more than two dozen individual subscriber pages.

"This is extremely disturbing," said one subscriber, when contacted through e-mail. The subscriber asked that his or her name not be used. "I'm not sure if I should be worried or not, but I am," the person said.

The subscriber Web pages linked member's names with interests in various topics, "Distortion of evidence" for one, and, for another, Errol Morris, the director of the documentary "The Fog of War," which won the Oscar for its portrayal of the life of Vietnam era Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara. ***

They're putting snapshots out on Yahoo photo pages now. Is this desperation, or what? I hope everyone has had, or will have an opportunity to read the truth about this mission in Unfit for Command.

Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry (news - web sites), left, and William B. Rood, right, are shown in this undated photo at the Swift boat base at An Thoi shortly after the action for which Kerry was awarded the Silver Star and Rood was awarded the Bronze Star in early 1969 during his service in Vietnam. Both men are holding weapons captured in the mission. Rood, a night city editor with the Chicago Tribune, who served with Kerry during the Vietnam War as the commander of a Navy swift boat on the 1969 mission ischallenging the attacks on Kerry's account of the incident.
