For nearly two weeks, Senator John F. Kerry had refrained from commenting directly on the crescendo of attacks on his Vietnam War record.............. At first, some of Kerry's allies thought that a response from the candidate would merely prolong the publicity...... "I personally miscalculated," said Paul Nace, who has worked closely with Kerry in his campaigns since 1970. "There were a number of us who were following it closely and trying to measure it and you don't want to react and give a story more legs than it is entitled to. But when it became clear the story did have legs -- once I reached the conclusion it wasn't going to blow over -- I did express the opinion that we have to respond."
So Nace began talking with a small group of Kerry friends known as the dog hunters.
It was in 1984 that the dog hunters first organized. Kerry's Democratic primary opponent, James Shannon, had said during a televised debate that if Kerry, who became a leading critic of the war after he returned from Vietnam, "felt that strongly about the war, you would not have gone." Kerry responded that Shannon was insulting veterans, adding, "That dog won't hunt." A group of Vietnam veterans rallied to Kerry's side and became known as the dog hunters, helping Kerry in subsequent races, including in 1996, when questions were first raised about Kerry's Silver Star.
Now the dog hunters, including Nace, were mobilized for another battle at Kerry's side......

Given the Boston Globe's reputation, isn't this a rather anti-Kerry headline?

The Kerry campaign calls on a conservative publisher to withdraw a book after the Washington Post torpedoes the veracity of a Swift boat veteran.
The Kerry campaign has told Salon that the publisher of "Unfit for Command," the book that is at the center of the attack on Kerry's military record by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, is retailing a hoax and should consider withdrawing it from bookstores. "No publisher should want to be selling a book with proven falsehoods in them, especially falsehoods that are meant to smear the military service of an American veteran," said Kerry campaign spokesman Chad Clanton. "If I were them, I'd be ducking under my desk wondering what to do. This is a serious problem."
Even some uncomfortable Republicans might breathe a sigh a relief if "Unfit for Command" were to vanish from bookstores: "I don't think the Swift Boat Veterans are helping the Republican cause," Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., remarked on CNN Thursday.

JOHN KERRY=
Traitor

Bump!
Bring 'em on!
That is such a seventies crowd behind Kerry, you have the stoners, the weird crazy-looking girl on the right, the doofy guy on the left, the Che Guevara wanna in the tcneter top, the Fidel Castro lookalike in the upper left, the various John Lennon lookalikes - and a few people actually wearing suits and ties and nice dresses. And all seen from the perspective of "the Man." Quite a picture.
I "resemble" that!
