my dad was assigned to PBRs (river patrol boats - smaller and faster than swifts) in viet nam. he said that you referred to everyone in your squadron as your "shipmate".

Or saying a fighter pilot doesn't know about the members of his flight. I spent many years in a single seat jet. My flight commander knew all about me. When it was my turn I knew all sbout my flight members. Not on the same boat. What a trivial excuse.
