Bookstore Employees LIE About UNFIT FOR COMMAND in Nashville
Nashville TN Davis-Kidd Bookstore (Green Hills) | 8-19-04 | self

Posted on 08/19/2004 5:25:08 PM PDT by wardaddy

This evening at approximately 6:15 CDT time here in Nashville I went to the Davis Kidd Booksellers at 4007 Hillsboro Road in the Green Hills section of Nashville. My wife had been by two days ago and reserved 2 copies for us of UNFIT and was told that the store would have them yesterday. I had planned to stop then but was too busy.

When I went to the front desk I was told to go to the back counter where they hold reserve books. I went up to the bespectacled young lady and asked "Where are ya'll hiding Unfit for Command" jokingly. She replied that they were not in yet and I then responded that I was surprised they were carrying the book. She responded to that with the remark that "it's taking forever because they are having to re-edit the book for slander over and over". I then responded rather incredulously that gee that seems sort of odd considering that every dot.com bookseller and a number of conservative websites were offering the book and that they didn't appear to be too worried about slander and that my wife had been told the book was to be there yesterday.

Then began the old lefty backsliding from the usual lies and hyperbole. She proceeded to say that slander wasn't really what she meant and that Ingram, the distributor was running behind and blah, blah, blah. Her being an obviously rather ill informed liar of a young lass, I resisted being cross and said thanks curtly and left. If any FReepers are in the mood to freep a bookstores Stalinesque impulse to control knowledge to suit their own political views? Davis-Kidd can be reached at: 615-385-2645 or

davis kidd website

Ask them why they have employees lying to keep the truth about John Kerry from being exposed and if they feel any shame at all? No cursing or threats please.

This crap infuriates me. Why do booksellers think they own the entire intellectual property of politics? I knew better. I had been there years back when I ate in their little cafe sitting right above the butcheress Kate Michelman while she gave a lecture. It took all my willpower not to dump my food on anyone like her who celebrates the right to kill the unborn. I WILL NEVER EVER SET FOOT IN THERE AGAIN EVER.

(When I say things like that I mean it) POed in Music City, WD

In the past they have had Moses and North so I know someone there has a little sense.

A lady called Sean on the radio this afternoon. She asked for the book at a Borders store in NJ and was told they were all being recalled because the book was full of lies!

Kerry's call for bookstores to stop selling it is having an impact on the no-nothing bookstore clerks. Any store that refuses to stock it should be boycotted.

I ordered from amazon.com and got my book a couple of days ago. I've ordered many books from them, and never had a problem...give them a try.

I was at the same store Sunday. A kid told me Sept. 1 was the release date. When I told him it was already available on the net, he said they must be doing it illegally (???) Picked up Richard Poe's book instead. Barnes and Noble at Opry Mills didn't have it either. After walking away there, I overheard a clerk ask "Isn't that the real controversal book?"

I ordered my copy from Amazon weeks ago. They say it will not ship til October. Barnes and Noble web site says they are out-of-stock.

Either this book is selling way more copies than anyone expected or these book people are holding it back as long as they can.

Meanwhile, stacks of Clinton's book remain in the clearance area at my local gorcery store with red stickers shouting 40% off, and no 'with Kroger Card' disclaimer either.

What you should do is send the owner, or president a nice letter, tellign him that you usually spend, on average, aboiut $xxxx in his store each year, but after this..well..you're taking your business elsewhere..

There was a caller to the Sean Hannity show this afternnon who reported that they went to Borders and were told that they were "recalling all of the books for slander" and wouldn't be selling any future copies of this "trash".

Anyone else hear that caller?

I guess we just all need to order our copies from Amazon. I did!

I'm no more likely to visit a bookstore than I am a gay bath house.

I ordered books and CD's from amazon.com on Sunday and they were delivered today.

Delivered cheap, on time without any 'tude.

The Vietnam vets have been putting up with garbage for decades.

They are still being mistreated today.

Yep...and that is why I posted this. Let them hear from FReeperdom. I was polite enough but sort of taken aback by the forwardness of the lie...why on earth did she think I wanted my two reserved copies?...cause I was Bush-hater...doesn't make much sense for her to lie to a W-man...or maybe it did in her miniscule brain-ganglia

Not to mention there are a lot of FReepers in Middle Tennessee.

wp/nrt,

can either of ya'll hit the local ping list please?

The most telling thing to me is that the young clerk felt free to spout the liberal line and obviously did not expect to be challenged. It is amazingly rude but most of the time, I let it pass. I commend you for calling her on it.

The Left doesn't really give a rip about freedom of speech, what they want eliminated is freedom of thought.
