The President's hardworking National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice spoke about and took questions on the Global War on Terror's war of ideas, addressing the efforts the Bush Administration has taken to lead the world toward values and understanding that will bring a just and lasting peace, at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington D.C. today. Dr. Rice counseled Americans to be 'less critical of every twist and turn' in Iraq.
Retiring Senator Zell Miller, D-GA, will deliver the keynote address at the GOP Convention.
Dr. Condoleeza Rice talks with Sean Hannity (radio link) on military transformation.
The First Lady had a significant interview with Bill Sammon of The Washington Times, stating she believes life begins at conception and that she supports her husband's view on abortion. Asked if she was pro-life, she answered yes and stated abortion should be rare. "Mrs. Bush laughed incredulously when asked whether the press was fair and impartial in its coverage of a conservative such as President Bush. Her press secretary, Gordon Johndroe, laughed even more heartily." The twins will not be speaking at the GOP convention, she said. The short interview is worth the read. She described her husband as "very loving and compassionate and really sweet."
The interview excerpted further: "The first lady was asked whether she would be devastated if her husband lost. 'Yes, of course,' she said. 'Would we still have a life? Sure. Would we have a good life? Sure.' [Sammon asks:] Would Americans survive a Kerry presidency? 'They'll do a lot better,' she said, smiling ruefully, 'with a Bush re-election.'"
President Bush will be vacationing for a week at his ranch so we're not likely to be seeing a lot of the usual photos.
Enjoy your daily Dose of Team W @ Sanity Island!
What's a kip?
Computer's up and running, but I've got NO time, so I'm just stopping in to say "HI!"
THANKS for the photos, Gretchen and for the great links. I LOVE that feisty Laura talking about her loving husband!
US being threatened by attack from Iran?
I am sure the joint chiefs are shaking in their boots.
If they idiots try it , they will be vaporized.
Oh, yeah.........and thanks even MORE for covering for me tonight!
Yes, you have a very good point there! Thanks!
Is John Kasich dense? Why is he asking such stupid questions about Thurlow? I really don't like watching him.
What about his hands clasped in the Buddhist pose?
Makes me crazy, he does.
Jerk - can't figure out whether to salute or make the palms together Buddhist thing. What an idiot.
Truthy
Well, he'd better enjoy it while it can because in a few short months, John F. Kerry will be a has been. No one will be saluting him then. :o)
NO one is supposed to salute unless they're in uniform.
If a soldier passes a 4-star General who is not in uniform, he won't salute and he's correct.
Kerry makes me crazy when he salutes those who are Vets, who are not in uniform. Does a disservice to them two different ways. They are wrong to salute Kerry - he NOT their CinC - therefore, he's just a former LTjg Navy officer and that is that.
Phfft. I dislike the guy for so many reasons.
I'm never gonna get to the end of this Dose. And I'm prolly here, answering these questions all by my lonesome.
Here ya go, Grammie. This one was manufactured when you were in your 20's...ah, but you already knew that dincha? ;o)
The NON-electrical version of that sucker is what I'm looking for in the boxes in the basement. Once I've found it, the boxes are going out. I haven't wanted or needed anything in them in 9 years. That old timey toaster is the only thing I can remember and I want it. It was the only way I could toast a slice of bread in my first apt., and that was in the early 70's. I forget who gave the thing to me but it sure predated me by a LOT of years.
And it only toasted (more correctly, burned) two pieces of bread at a time, on a gas stove. What did people do who had an electric stove? Tossed the thing out, I'm sure!
I heard about that too, Truthy.
Quick and surgical are indeed the right words to describe the response.
He's taking a more sensitive approach, Truthy. Gag.
When my husband drove his step-father on base they would get saluted left and right due to the sticker on the car. My husband was a Naval Officer and his step-father was an Army General (2star).
I sure hope you find it! It's a keeper!
A biscuit is similar to a cookie but we have loads of different ones plain ones sweet ones like shortbread some have cream in them like aeros I think that is what you call them? but they are alway crisp. One of the most popular are choclate digestive which is a wheat crisp biscuit with milk or plain choclate on top. Thre are literally abut 30 or forty different flavours type makes.
Biscuits in England are normally served with a cup of tea in some resturants you get coffee with a little sacket of crisp biscuit in it you probabably get that in the states as well as I have seen this in Europe as well with coffee.
Your biscuits are similar to our scones which we serve at a tradition English high tea with jam (jelly - jelly in England is your Jelo or jam made without skin or pips and sieve before putting into the jar) and fresh double cream.
One of the most popular [biscuits] are choclate digestive which is a wheat crisp biscuit with milk or plain choclate on top.
That sounds somewhat like our (imported recipe, produced here) biscotti that is sold in coffee shops and grocery stores.
It sounds like your biscuits are in a category we don't have a specie name for, but, rather, individual product names, such as creme-filed wafer cookies we have (waffled) that I used to love when I still ate products with sugar. I can't remember their names any more but they are very common.
You're right about our biscuits being like your scones. Our biscuits are usually lighter, fluffier and less dense than what I remember of scones. Yummm for both.
Sadly, no!
