The May 8, 2000 article from U.S. News & World report reproduced below begins by stating that John Kerry conducted clandestine forays into Cambodia during the Vietnam War to deliver weapons to anticommunist forces. Because that statement isn't a direct quote of Kerry, I contacted the reporter, Kevin Whitelaw, this afternoon. Whitelaw still works at U.S. News & World report where he covers foreign affairs and intelligence matters.
Hugh: "Did John Kerry tell you that he ran guns into Cambodia?"
Kevin Whitelaw: "That's exactly what he told me."
Mr. Whitelaw declined my invitation to appear on my radio program, explaining that he doesn't report on or comment on the presidential campaign.
Can we now agree that John Kerry has engaged in wild claims about his service? Since he told that tale to Mr. Whitelaw, who else has he told it to?

Wow. Another Kerry whopper, this from U.S. News & World Reports of May 8, 2000. Here's the entire article.
"Is a trial deal near? by Kevin Whitelaw
Sen. John Kerry made his first forays into Cambodia during the Vietnam War as a Navy lieutenant on clandestine missions to deliver weapons to anticommunist forces. When he returned last week, the mission was official, but dicey nonetheless. At the request of the United Nations, Kerry is trying to broker a compromise on how to try leaders of the former Khmer Rouge regime, whose late 1970s reign of terror claimed the lives of some 1.7 million Cambodians.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen wants to control any court looking into genocide charges, but U.S. and U.N. officials have demanded an international tribunal. "You can't have a situation where a justice system that many people view as inoperative will have the ability to trump the international community's consensus," says Kerry. Kerry is offering a compromise to allow for co-prosecutors and co-investigators. Both Cambodian and foreign judges would have to agree before an indictment could be thrown out. Hun Sen had initially accepted the proposal but ran into hard-line opposition from his political allies. Kerry anticipates a deal could be struck as early as this week.
Still, the parliament needs to go along, and many members of the ruling party (including Hun Sen) held low- or mid-level posts in the Khmer Rouge regime and might be reluctant to sign on. A legislative debate has been delayed until late May, ostensibly because of a termite infestation of the parliament building."
Where did Kevin Whitelaw get this stunner about running guns to the anti-communists? Somebody find him and ask.
Are the Swift Vets selling Bumper Stickers like the logo you posted yet? I'd buy 2 magnetic ones for my family cars.
I'd post the img but don't know how. :(
The more I read about his arrogance, the more I despise this man. His inability to follow orders put every man under his command in danger. Why these guys support him is beyond me. He wanted out, and so he put himself before his crew. What a selfish, souless bastard. I hope he rots in hell.
If he wasn't running for POTUS he'd be down at the VA filing a claim for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Do we have another Thomas Eagleton in the making?
If it is true that Kerry has a mental disorder, then I don't hate him anymore. I take back all the times I have said he is a lying SOS. He can't help himself. He is simply bipolar and all that goes with it. He needs help. He needs to resign.
And the Dems need to completely revamp their party. They, collectively, also have a mental disorder these days!
That is a great idea!
LOL...FReep Kerry wearing Christmas hats with FreeRepublic.CIA on them
Off topic, but tonight while trapped in my vehicle I was listening to Liberal Alan Colmes, he had some conservative on a Major I think who stated that one of Kerry's crew had changed his story slightly from what he said at the convention I think it was Del Sandusky concerning whether Kerrys boat ran or the others in the Rassman incident...maybe PCF 94 is starting to spring some small leaks?
He also said Kerry's team was pressed to have the form 180 signed to release all his records and they indicated Kerrry would not do it...
anyone else hear this?
Thanks for the ping!
Wow! I'm shocked!
I thought Kerry was a pompous a$$, but then I found out he tried to bribe Admiral Hoffman, confessing to the Admiral the things said in "Tour of Duty" were not nice [slander], then offering to change it if the Admiral would get the SBV's to stop their attack.
He's not just a pompous a$$, he's a lunatic!
But the MSM is doing exactly what they did in 1991 when x42 started his campaign. The AK media never said anything about x42's history. The the MSM remained silent throughout the campaign.
However .. this time the game is different. This time there is a conservative media to counter the MSM. They haven't figured it out yet .. but they will not be allowed to promote another narcissistic lunatic into the office of president.
"Why these guys support him is beyond me"
Rush had a caller today who said that perhaps Kerry has promised them some sort of position within his administration if he's elected. That could be quite a motivater for some people.
Power corrupts .. absolutely!
Hmmmm? Is Hillary waiting in the wings to take over in case Kerry has to resign .. or will she let Edwards take the party down to defeat ..??
I guess you can always find individuals who'll do anything for money.
FReeper wvromania is making some white vinyl car/truck back window stickers with this design.
I haven't heard back from the Swifties yet on the bumper sticker. They have been busy I am sure.
Santa hats for every Kerry campaign stop!
Just to back up Kerry of course.
Also bring New Year's Eve hats, St. Valentine's Day hats, Easter Bunny hats [with bunny ears], May Day hats.
Kerry's memory will go on and on and on.
It will move from month to month until no witnesses exist that cannot be bought!

Did you know that Kerry got Del Sandusky into rehab ??
BY SCOTT MacKAY
Journal Staff Writer ( Providence,RI )

"Over the years, Kerry has remained close to many of his crewmates, helping some cope with life's rough patches;
he helped arrange for Del Sandusky, a crewmate who was on FleetCenter stage last Thursday,
to receive help for alcohol abuse and depression years ago and kept in touch with Sandusky's doctors for years after."
