Poll: 75% of US Jews favor Kerry over Bush

A new poll commissioned by the National Jewish Democratic Council says American Jews will still vote overwhelmingly for the Democratic presidential candidate, John Kerry, despite US President George W. Bush's policies toward Israel, which have been widely praised by the Jewish community.

The poll, released on Monday, said American Jews preferred Kerry to Bush by a 75 to 22 percent margin. The survey of 817 likely Jewish voters was conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research between July 26 and 28, and has a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percent.

Respondents said in 2000 they had voted for Vice President Al Gore over Bush by a similar margin of 76 to 21 percent.

Exit polls in 2000 showed Gore won 79 percent of the Jewish vote, and Bush 19 percent.

"The White House and (President Bush's political adviser) Karl Rove in particular have expended a lot of resources on this Jewish vote. Just like with Hispanics, they've come up with zero," said Ira Forman, executive director of NJDC.

Matthew Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, a rival group, discounted the survey's results since the poll was taken during the Democratic Convention in Boston.

"I discount these findings because this poll was taken right in the middle of the Democratic Convention, right in the middle of a massive deluge of Kerry press coverage," Brooks said.

"We stand firmly committed to the notion that President Bush will do substantially better among Jewish voters than he did in 2000," Brooks added.

Another survey of American Jewish opinion in January found that 31 percent of Jews would support Bush when matched with Kerry, who was not yet the nominee at the time.

The new NJDC survey said 66 percent found Kerry to be better on the issue of Israel, while 34 percent found Bush to be. Only 23 percent of respondents felt the country was moving in the right direction, while 77 percent said it was on the wrong track. Twenty-five percent approved strongly or somewhat of the way Bush is handling his job as president, while 75 percent disapproved strongly or somewhat.

A new national Zogby survey released Monday showed Kerry ahead of Bush 47 to 43 percent. Without Independent Ralph Nader and other candidates the lead stretched to 50 to 43 percent.

The fact is, American Jews have a Democrat problem and admitting it is the first step to recovery.

The 50% (or more) of Catholics who vote Democrat provide vastly more votes than the 70-80% of Jews who do.

The fact is that the GOP has wasted a lot of time, energy, and money going after the Jewish and Hispanic voter groups. Except for a few subcategories, notably the Orthodox Jews and Cubans, their efforts have been futile.

Republican strongholds include white evangelicals, Mormons, and to a lesser extent, white mainline Protestants and German-Americans (both Catholic and Protestant). The battle ground for 2004 is the white, non-German, Catholic voter. These voters are about evenly split between the Republicans and the Democrats.

Kevin Phillips' strategy in The Emerging Republican Majority, written in 1969, was for the GOP to capture white, mostly evangelical, Southerners and Irish, Italian, and Slavic, mostly Catholic, Northeasterners and Midwesterners into the Republican fold, ensuring a permanent majority for what was then his party. Except for Reagan, the GOP has succeeded only with its Southern strategy.

Bush and Cheney need to spend lots of time in places like western Pennsylvania and northern Ohio to cultivate this voting group. It would be useful to have high profile white Catholic Republicans, such as Rudy Giuliani and Rick Santorum, campaign vigorously for Bush's re-election.

I became born again in nov. 92. For some reason the morning after the 96 election I was wondering how on earth so many could be fooled into voting for a scumball like slick.

It was then that I had a moment of "clarity" and something inside me said the antichrist will decieve almost everyone and make slicks lies look like child play.

But you are correct it is not really easy.

You have falsely accused me of accusing you and Jewish FReepers as having malice upon Christians Here is what you said in your first post on this thread: It is ironic that if Christianity met the doom that most Jews wish for it 'Most' would imply some Jews on Fr too.

Would it imply "some Jewish conservative talk radio hosts"? Why would it imply one if not the other?

Pawns of the Jews, just like GWB...And Jim McGreevey.

Him too.

If I was a Dem precinct captain in a Jewish neighborhood I'd add this on to my collection of thread printouts, to demonstrate to independents the bigotry of the right.

In my 43+ years on this earth, this is one thing for which I cannot figure an explanation. How could so many reject the one guy who is more committed than just about anyone else to maintaining Israel's strength in the Middle East?

Because American Jews have nothing to do with Israel or "Christian values".

Because American Jews have nothing to do with Israel or "Christian values".

Another absurd, meaningless statement.

I wonder why so many people think Republicans are bigots?

I wonder why so many people think Republicans are bigots?

They can read?

..............

Please dont take this as being Anti -Semitic, but if 76% of American jews like Kerry over Bush there are some dumb-assed American jews.

It will serve them right if something really horrible happens to Israel if Kerry gets elected…people need a painfull reminder of who their real friends are.

Are Jews more anti-Christian than pro-Israel?

It is as amazing to me that Jews would vote for the party of anti-Semitism as it is that blacks vote the party of racism.

I can't stand how they want their cake and eat it too. Let these groups finally bear the consequences of their actions…If these groups don't have negative consequences put upon them by their choices, then they will continue to support Democrats at no cost to their pork.

Well isn't this a kick in the junk! If they got their wish it would be hard to feel any empathy for the adverse consequenses they would suffer.

They seem determined to aid their own destruction. They seem to enjoy misery as away to exist.

I wonder if they felt the same way about Hitler?

And that racist blacks who hate them [Jews] vote in a democrat block also.

The Jews have been on the wrong side of history ever since the Exodus. So this shouldn't surprise anyone.

Not at all surprising to me. American liberal Jews are suicidal in the extreme. They support Nazi-style gun bans, a Nazi-style police state, Nazi-style propaganda (Jews own or control over 70% of mass media outlets...just a statistical fact folks, not me being a Nazi okay?), and Nazi-style socialism (government 'partnering' with private industry for the 'common good').

The devil has decieved them. They are blinded because of their unbelief.

If Bush Wins in November, then he should abide by the wishes of the Jewish voters and minimize support for Israel and make sure the hard working American tax dollars are completely cutoff from Israel. All aid to Israel should end. It is disgusting the tribe mentality of so many groups. I really have just now changed my view of American taxpayer support of Israel.

There is an extreme hatred/fear of Christians and Christianity among most American Jews that never really becomes obvious until something or someone Christian threatens to bubble up to the mainstream

the majority of Jews believe that in 1920 an organization known as the Muslim Brotherhood which is the original AQ and Arab Nazis was working with Hitler. It became the official policy of the The Third Reich to secretly develop the Muslim Brotherhood as the fifth Parliament, an army inside Egypt. After WWII they moved to Saudi Arabia at which time BinLaden became interested. They also believe the CIA is an arm of this secret society which hates Jews. On top of it all they believe Bush 41 and 43 are also involved and support the Muslim Brotherhood.

These people [American Jews] wrap themselves in the US Constitution as the reasons for their actions but I sometimes wonder if the goal isn't the complete elimination of Christianity in the public life of America and to drive it underground and out of sight.

And ya know what else? Ya know who was behind the rise of Hitler? The Jews.

These people are world socialists first, jews second, and Americans, last.

Would you agree that those who were furious with Mel Gibson for making "The Passion of the Christ" are hostile to Christianity?

Yes and no. :o) Some of that group are hostile to Christianity. Some are simply fearful.

I would agree that there is a subset of Jews who are hostile to Christianity. I have never seen any evidence, though, to suggest that this group is anything other than a pretty small minority.

I'm sure that you would agree that fearfulness leads to hostility a "Christophobe" would literally translate to "fear of Christians".

There were very few Jews in the media and in politics who defended Mel Gibson and an onslaught of Jews in the media and politics who were condemning him for making a movie based on the new testament.

Is it your contention that most Jews who are in a position to effect policy and shape opinions are hostile to Christianity? If so, are they only a "subset" that have no effect on the larger Jewish population?

Next question: If a Jewish Senator remarks that a nominee for Attorney General is unqualified because of his deeply held Christian beliefs, is that Senator hostile to Christianity?

WIDEAWAKE my foot. Italian Americans are mostly conservative reliable Republican voters. I, as well as my parents, sister, brother-in-law, cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, neice (when she hits age), cat (if she could), all vote GOP and would NEVER vote for RAT.

I would have included dearly departed, but that is why I and my family are not RATS.

Irish Americans - they are much much more RAT than Italians.

My first thought upon seeing the headline: Racists. Why does one's "Jewishness" matter?

But then it turns out the poll was done by the National Jewish Democratic Council. What do they think they gain by this?
