CON ED 'TATTOO'
NY Post ^ | 8/15/04 | HEATHER GILMORE

August 15, 2004 -- A 26-year-old skateboarder is scarred for life after she fell onto a red-hot Con Edison manhole cover — mere blocks from the scene of a tragic death earlier this year when a woman stepped onto an electrified Con Ed cover. Magazine receptionist and DJ Liz Wallenberg told The Post she was skating to see friends at an East Village club early Wednesday when she hit a bump in the road at 13th Street and Second Avenue.

"I landed with my arm and back straight onto the metal cover," Wallenberg said. "I noticed it was kind of hot, but I didn't realize how bad it was until my skin started to sizzle."

I saw this gal on the news this morning...after looking at all the tatoo's on her arm (that was the only part of her body was able to see), I wonder how she'll be able to tell the difference between the burn and the tats.

I guess that's worse than having Pepto stenciled on your forehead.

It's not clear why the manhole cover was hot. Was it simply because they sun was beating on it all day? Whose responsible for the sun anyway? Must be that Bush guy and his support for global warming.

Note to self:

If you ever see a red-hot manhole cover in New York City, do the city a favor and improve the "pleasant" stench in the city's air by peeing all over it.

How, I ask, does a manhole cover get so red=hot that it can sear/brand flesh and nobody knows about it until someone falls on it?

It was cool and cloudy on the 14th and 15th, with scattered showers.

Could have been far worse, what if she fell on something that said "enter at your own risk"!

This looks like she got some fancy artwork to me.

I don't understand how/why she fell. Seems to have a low center of gravity!

Has John Edwards left her alone yet or is he still calling her? I live in NYC, run my own biz and on average I get sued about once a year. Just settled a case last April, which I thought was good timing being that I owed the IRS money as well. I must say, knowing that a scum sucking leech can be our next Vice President makes me feel just lovely alll over. I mean, maybe we should just drop all types of jobs and industry and just let everyone make their living by lawsuits. "Ow, I didn`t know that by placing my ass on a hot piece of metal more than 10 minutes than I could actually get burned - I need compensation" "I didn`t know that I could tell the gay Governor to go f- himself - I need compensation"

My son, about seven at the time, walked across a large metal utility cover with bare feet. He did not notice a lot of pain at first but I noticed the bloody footprints. Took the skin right off the bottom of his feet. Shortly after that he felt a LOT of pain.

This was just a metal cover sitting in the sun, near a pool no less.

This could happen.
