I'm being told by a reliable source that Unfit for Command may debut as number one one the NYT bestseller list. However, I do have a few questions...
1) In what week will it debut?
2) Will the NYT now have to review the book?
3) Will this affect the ability of the media to ignore it?
4) If it has been #1 on amazon, BN, etc. for quite some time, why hasn't it already hit the list?
You'll have to excuse my ignorance here, but I'm not really familiar with book list procedures at the NYT.
P.S. Please don't FReepmail me about my source - it shall remain anonymous.
I read the official release date in Aug. 15
After all, how many liberals have actually slogged through such dreck as "It Takes A Village" and "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot"?
Bad news for the traitor and his party of fools.
"4) If it has been #1 on amazon, BN, etc. for quite some time, why hasn't it already hit the list?"
It may be because sales are done on a quarterly basis. And now that Kerry's turned this story into a much larger one, the sales have really taken off which would explain why it might just now be making the bestseller list.
You have to PR the heck out of a book to get any traction. That's why royalties to writers start out large and go down over time. As the book gains momentum, then it sells more. And being number one on amazon.com or B&N.com doesn't mean much to actual book sells in stores. That's where the publishers make most of their money.
Simply put: Some people won't shop over the internet and wait for a book when they can go down to the store and pick it up in town.
BumPing
It's still No. 1 on AMazon and B&N.
There are also some great reviews at B&N:

Congratulations on the absolutely perfect use of the Yiddish word "dreck."
Amazon originally said I wouldn't get my pre-ordered copy till the end of August, but I got notice two days ago that it's been shipped.
Also ordered A Matter of Character...I've heard good things about that book too.
A reviewer, (was) a democrat till I read this., August 12, 2004, Very, very well documented Very hard to dispute the facts - as the book is so well documented. Chilling how Kerry has been able to make claims 180 degrees from the facts. A must read!
Darn. . .and I ordered mine from Amazon the day it appeared on Drudge and still haven't received it.
I would like to know what's up with Barnes and Noble. They told me this past Monday that the books were in their warehouse. They were to call me when it arrived...still no call. (I have since found it elsewhere.) I believe they told Howlin that they only had 300 copies in all of their warehouses.
No,the Times can still ignore the book...at least for a while and the MSM WILL still ignore it,for as long as they possibly can.
Well apparently they lie.
I emailed them about the changing of the title and the different picture on their online site. I got a reply that the "mistake" had been corrected and that it was a human error due to the hugh volume of books. Also mentioned that their credit card security was extremely secure as always.
Human mistake in changing a title and cover to change the entire meaning of an offering?
I was in Barnes and Noble and was told this book was not being released until September 1. Is that true? The salesguy said that lots of people have been asking and that they're taking orders.
The official publication date in Aug. 15th, they will ship it a couple of days afterwards, so you'll probably get it towards the end of next week, if you are lucky.
I got my copy from Amazon yesterday.
Hopefully, I think they have to ship in order to count.
Here's what the Times has at the bottom of their list.
Rankings reflect sales, for the week ending August 7, at almost 4,000 bookstores plus wholesalers serving 50,000 other retailers (gift shops, department stores, newsstands, supermarkets), statistically weighted to represent all such outlets nationwide.
