Nope full color, there is a link back around post 33 to the site where you can run these models. They are not accurate enough for forecasting, but there are interesting and accurate in a macro, or big picture kinda way.

It was a real mistake to start naming hurricanes after men. Ever since, all the bad storms have guy's names. They just smash into the coastline and don't care what's in their way.

The female hurricanes tend to be less powerful and have a tendency to stay out over water a few days while they make up their minds where to make landfall. They're more unpredictable but do less damage.

Yup, the generator is for my bar, nothing like having the only cold beer (and ice) in town after a huricane. Prices go up a bit (to cover the increased cost of operation). ;->

The Hurricane of 1900 is often talked about here in the Lone Star State.

The Galveston Hurricane. Something like 8,000 dead, wasn't it? No sea wall and no warning to speak of.

After Opal came through Atlanta (yeah, I know, it was strange), our street had no power for almost a week.

We were keeping everyone's steaks and shrimp in our freezer. We didn't charge . . . figured we'd get it back later in tips to our lawn-mowing and baby-sitting kids (we did).

But the quintessential Dumb Blonde story did come out of our Opal Adventure. The Dumb Blonde lived across the street . . . she walked up to us while we were out picking up sticks in the dusk, with our outside lights on and the generator quite audible, and asked, < high breathy voice > "Oh, is the power on on your side of the street?" < /high breathy voice >. We thought she was kidding, but no, we had to explain that we had a gasoline powered generator. "Oh, I thought you were mowing the lawn." We gave up, sometimes stupidity is incurable.

That's what coolers are for. I have a deep freeze and a double door frig I have to downsize:') Seriously, we don't refrig the can drinks because they get flat if they go hot.

Huricane party in hurrican proof house was camile I think, 1960ish, everyone but a small boy died and nothing but the houses concrete foundation was left.

1900 storm was Galveston, no one knew a huricane was comming, lot's of folk on the beach watching the "interesting weather" roll in. Close to 9,000 people died and Galveston to this day has never really recovered. Galvestion would have been "the Houston" of Texas were it not for the 1900 storm. All the investors left and build Huston (50 miles inland) instead.

No, the folks in Galveston in 1900 didn't even know it was coming, even the weatherman (Isaac Cline of "Isaac's Storm") had very little warning.

The "hurricane party" was in a motel or apartment complex over in MS when Camille hit, IIRC. Pass Christian, I think.

I have already had 20+ inches of rain in the month of August here in the north Tampa-Bay, FL area.

I live in central tampa....just a couple of miles from downtown and am very thankful this didn't hit us as expected and yes we have been suffering a drought last couple years and was thankful when we started getting some rains but enough is enough

Yeah probably. I've seen flicks on TWC at times. It was an apartment complex. They wouldn't have had coverage then.

I talked with a elderly lady awhile back that went thru a hurricane way back when. She kept telling me they heard about it from the "extra " boy. I finally figured out what she meant. "Extra, Extra, read all about it":')

I'm loving it! Every time it looks like I might have to haul out the sprinkler, here comes another rainstorm! Haven't had to water once this year. And the 80 degree days in July/August in Texas...it's unbelievable.
