Well if you say so. Do you live in huricane country?

Thankfully, no. But I am in northern Maine and am holding breath to see how far up Charley comes. When they come on up the coast, then we get hit with wind and rain.

Charley is said to hit NYC around 8 tonight. An hour and a half to go. Then we will see just where Charley will go from there.

Anything that comes up the Yuctan channel deserves a heads up for Texas. Allen and Gilbert are two monsters that paid Texas a visit. Allen lost some steam before it the the coast and the main force of Gilbert hit Mexico.

I am friends with some Combat Weatherman (operators).
Think of them as spec. ops weatherman. We were talking a couple of years ago....and I seem to remember them mentioning that storms often gain in strength when they make right hand turns.
We saw this with Charley..somewhat.

Not sure if its a constant...but it could be an issue.
Earl seems to be scheduled on a straight path for quite a while. Gotta wonder hwen it will turn. And which direction. IF not...and goes straight......well.....Hello Corpus!

I remember Allen, monster hurricane, I live on Galveston bay and Allen pushed 5 feet of water into Galveston bay when it was 250 miles out. An Allen type hurricane hitting a populated area on the gulf coast would be a disaster of biblical proportions.

The Hurricane of 1900 is often talked about here in the Lone Star State.

Kinda like the big spinner that took out a huge part of Waco.

I agree after watching some of the pictures of the aftermath of Charley and Andrew. Some folks in Florida talked about how their structures were "Hurricane proof" up to ceratin windspeed. I hardly hear anybody make that claim that claim downhere for good reasons.

When Seabrook called for a voluntary evacuation, I decided to load up my keg of beer an go down to the bay and watch the huricane roll in. man was I stupid, as I was getting ready one outter band from a hurincane 250 miles away hit. 50kts and hard hard rain. I changed my plans.

I have already had 20+ inches of rain in the month of August here in the north Tampa-Bay, FL area.

The high ridge is expected to remain in place for a few days if so this one is headed your way. Can your west coast get hit twice in one year? hmmmm, it would take another cool front to come down and turn the storm north then east. Not likely, but I have heard another cool front is comming.

I've decided to leave up my metal storm panels for a few days, at least until I see where Earl goes.

We're not going to break out the BarBeQue either here in east Hillsborough. Gonna use the time to shore up our defenses.

It'll roll up and take the same path as Charley.

Watch the upper level winds. I wasn't too surprised Charley took a right at Punta Gorda. The jet stream was dipping way down into the gulf. If you looked at the water vapor satellite images, it showed a very strong NE flow. Jet streams move around alot. It's real hard to tell where Earl is going to go this early.

Interesting. Usually by now we hear from all the weather gurus that, "this may be the worst hurricane season in ..." fill in the blank. I haven't heard any such warning this year, and look at where we are at just Letter C. Could be a scary season for those in the hurricane corridor.
