FORECASTER LAWRENCE
I'd think they are built to sustain that kind of wind but some damage is likely. I'm sure some areas near landfall were completely wiped out.
Looks like he's cruising through Deltona.

LONG DISTANCE MELBOURNE REPORT
Folks, want to know the definition of strange? Call someone on the phone who is sitting in the midst of the edges of a hurricane like I just did.
I was just on the phone talking with my good friend Bob Toth and he stuck his phone up to the door and I heard the most chilling high winds.
Imagine if you will, what is sounds like to drive down the interstate at a high rate of speed, rolling down the window and sticking your head out. The howling winds you might hear are what I heard not ten minutes ago.
He was standing at the door and said, "crap, there goes my cactus. There goes two garbage cans and some shingles from down the street." The cactus was not in a pot, rather it was a tall one growing in the ground. I know it exists, I've seen it. The big tree in his front yard was bent over like a question mark. He said the city of Melbourne was experiencing 110MPH winds.
As of 21:00 EST he still had power.
I guess since I live on a hilltop in West Virginia, safe from hurricanes, never heard of a tornado here and safe from flooding, I have forgotten what it's like to be at the mercy of nature's fury.
I will be offering prayers for my buddy Bob, his wife Maria, and their dogs tonight.
Where are you? It is reassuring to hear good news. I have a nephew that lives on a sailboat at Punta Gorda. Good news is welcome from anyone down that. Glad you are safe!
And we have Tropical Depression 5....moving in....my children are getting their orders to get their butts back to Georgia... no more sun and fun for them!!!
Good. We got about 1/4 inch of rain here, and a few sticks fell out of the trees.
We dodged this one bigtime! We're thankful too, and waiting to see what we can do for the people in Charlotte Co.
just now??? that is more than Orlando experienced with the eye passing through. Sounds a bit high since we're getting nothing of that sort just 5 miles south. local weather statement says we can expect 60 mph gusts with the last band of t-storms we're getting now.
Here on Marco Island we had a great time. Rain......great waves....and all that wind! That wind.....man oh, man. I haven't felt that much wind since Kerry spoke at the DNC.
No, I missed that one. Sounds like they played chicken with God and got what they deserved.
Thank you so much. I am feeling a tad bet better. Not knowing where all the reports were coming from was a bit (alot) unnerving was giving me the willies. She stopped instant messaging me. I feel better knowing that she is just being obstinant and not in harms way. I will deal with her when Charley is long gone. Thanks!
"Lots of expensive real estate in the path of the storm."
I'm coming in late to this thread but yes, talk about expensive real estate...
My grandfather bought a patch of sand on Sarasota Bay in 1962, the year I was born. He had a house built there, and I have many happy childhood memories of that place. We went there every year.
Sadly, thanks to mis-understandings related to my grandfather's will, and my father's second wife, that house is gone to my sister and me.
But I will never forget that place. How I loved it. I don't even care how much it was worth on paper.
I guess I'm rambling, but I hope that the people who now occupy that place love it as much as my family did.
Every time there was a hurricane on the Gulf coast, we chatted with my family; my grandparents always put the blinds down and went inland to a hotel in Sarasota.
My prayers go out to those of you in the storm.
Yes, I sure do. *Shudder* It came through Greensboro with 60 mile an hour winds!
I guess Western Palm Beach County is in some danger, as I just had a minute long "Hurricane Warning in Palm Beach County" spot on my television.
These guys have really dropped the ball. Either that, or this was a particularly tricky hurricane.
Boy do we need John Hope. This current crop isn't getting the job done.
Thanks. They are on base in housing. My son finally called and he's home with my DIL and the baby and they are in for the night.
(Looks like the jetstream is pulling moisture from the Arizona/New Mexico area into this storm?)
This is a very puzzling picture because it what appears to be water vapor from the desert areas of in Arizona and New Mexico towards the East coast.
I hope I am very wrong that this storm could be pulling moisture from that far away.
AND I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON THIS. BUT PLEASE STAY ALERT WITH THIS STORM.
Thanks..thanks a lot.....
Got to agree!
Looks to me like that's where it's going to be as it goes past GA.
