Sex and the American schoolhouse

By Deborah Simmons
Published August 13, 2004

Last year, when D.C. Mayor Tony Williams held a forum on education, two young women advocated sex-education programs for grade-schoolers. The mayor, looking perplexed, asked the women if they were indeed proposing that pre-pubescent youth attend sex-ed classes. The women said yes, and the mayor moved on. He should have probed deeper.
Do you know what's being taught in your child's sex-education class?
A number of school districts place no age or course restrictions on sexual education. Many others, including Washington's, do allow parents to opt their children out of sex-ed classes, but neither parents seemingly are not concerned about whether our children are being brainwashed with an anything-and-everything-goes ideology straight out of ... well ... excuse me. This is a family newspaper.
Those of us who participate in the realm of the school-reform debate and closely watch how overall education policy is shaped know that the devil is in the details. So it is regarding sex education. A perfect example resurfaced earlier this year.
The National Education Association, the nation's largest teachers union, recently gave a human-rights award to the founding director of a group called the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. The group's mission is to school Americans on how non-heterosexuals should be treated, and one of the group's chief partners is the NEA. The NEA is a friend to any liberal who clamors for more money for teachers and a foe to any public-school parent who even attempts to raise the bar.

Liberals should be banned from schools. They are all perverts.

Government schools should be banned too.

...The National Education Association, the nation's largest teachers union, recently gave a human-rights award to the founding director of a group called the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network...

That should be no surprise. Consider the nation's largest Teachers Union Ties to 'Sexual Orientation' Advocacy Groups

...While serving as NEA President, Bob Chase was then and still is a board member of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. “GLSEN seeks to develop school climates where difference is valued for the positive contribution it makes in creating a more vibrant and diverse community. We welcome as members any and all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or occupation, who are committed to seeing this philosophy realized in K-12 schools.”

The ties between homosexual activist groups and NEA are not incidental, nor have they been severed with Chase’s departure. The sexual orientation advocacy community is intimately connected to nation’s largest teachers union. Little known, but significant in its influence is the NEA Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Caucus. In its September 2002 newsletter, NEA-GLBTC lamented Chase’s departure at NEA, noting that he was a “very strong asset for this Caucus and for GLBT issues in NEA.” GLBTC’s mission is to “protect the rights and interests” of GLBT faculty, to promote recognition of the “special needs and rights” of GLBT students and to promote “understanding and acceptance” of GLBT “people in all arenas of society.”

My brother and I go round and round on this topic. I am NOT an advocate of sex education in our public schools, mostly because it never ends there. Sex education becomes diversity education and that leads to kids questioning their own sexuality at the urging of school staff. Then there's the effort to make sure girls can get all sorts of medical attention without parents even being in the loop.

Disolve the Department of Education. Leave education to the states. And states should leave that education up to local communities. Funding should remain local. Schools should be privately run. Unions should become a thing of the past.

Schools and unions are two competing concerns. I say end that conflict of interest today.

Kevin Jennings, the founder of GLSEN, is a homosexual activist whose mission is to fill the eyes and ears of the precious children in our public schools with homosexual propaganda. Make no mistake, Jennings knows exactly what he's doing.

I encourage anyone who wants to know more about Kevin Jennings and GLSEN to read through the information and articles linked below.

GLSEN needs to be booted out of the public schools.

An excerpt from "Targeting Children - Part two: How the homosexual movement uses public schools as instruments of change"

"GLSEN activist and New York kindergarten teacher Jaki Williams said starting in kindergarten is a must, since children at that age are still developing their ideas about the world around them. Even at that age, she said, “the saturation process needs to begin.”

Williams, in fact, is a model teacher when it comes to this “saturation” process. She regularly initiates conversations with her children by reading to them such controversial books as Heather Has Two Mommies, Daddy’s Roommate, and One Dad, Two Dads, Browns Dads, Blue Dads. She also hosts a viewing of the video Both of My Moms’ Names Are Judy: Children of Lesbians and Gays Speak Out, produced by a San Francisco pro-homosexual advocacy group.

According to one writer for The Lambda Report, who infiltrated a 1997 GLSEN workshop, one former teacher admitted that changing the mind of a child required more than a one-time effort. She said she had to expose her children to a constant stream of homosexual words and images, because "It’s really a conditioning process."

Example Offered of Real Homosexual Agenda in America's Schools

"The school board says it’s about harassment, it’s about tolerance. Well, what does GLSEN say?" she asks. "The executive director, Kevin Jennings, says that it is about promoting homosexuality. That’s what he said is his mission. Let me read you his quote. He said, ‘Promoting homosexuality -- we can make it happen. That is our mission from this day forward.’ "

Folger describes the prospects as "frightening." "We had people that went into the GLSEN meetings. And make no mistake, this is not about tolerance in meeting with teachers -- it's about getting to the children," she says. "In fact, it was in that GLSEN meeting, locally held, that they said, 'We need this agreement to get to the children.' "

You are correct, the idea that our "professional" educators need a union to "work for higher wages" and "support the worker when job termination is threatened" are very dumb ideas in education.

A good teacher could make more by negotiating on his or her own with the school and dropping union support. But this is illegal in states where state law makes workers join a union if one is in place. The union is responsible for most of the decline in education.
