New Jersey Governor Resigns, Saying 'I Am A Gay American'
MTV via Google News ^

Posted on 08/12/2004 3:05:06 PM PDT by GulliverSwift

New Jersey Governor James McGreevey resigned from office Thursday, stating, "I am a gay American."

McGreevey spoke at a press conference in Trenton, New Jersey, Thursday afternoon (August 12), following allegations of corruption made by several of his political aides. The governor, who had served two years of his term, cited a "consensual affair with another man."

With his wife standing by his side, McGreevey announced his homosexuality. "From my early days in school until the present day," he said, "I noticed something that separated me from others."

"I have grappled with my own identity," McGreevey continued, describing how he struggled to align himself with what he felt were values that would make him part of a "traditional community."

"My truth is," he said, "that I am a gay American."

The governor then acknowledged his extramarital affair: "It was wrong, it was foolish, it was unacceptable," he said. "Let me be clear," the governor continued, "I accept total and full responsibility for my actions. However, I am required to do now, to do what is right, to correct the consequences of my actions and to be truthful to my loved ones, my friends and my family, and also, to myself."

Following the announcements of his homosexuality and extramarital affair, the governor explained that he felt the appropriate course of action was resignation.

"I am very proud of the things we have accomplished during this administration," McGreevey concluded, "and I want to thank humbly the citizens of the state of New Jersey for the privilege ... to govern."

McGreevey, who was elected the 51st governor of New Jersey on November 6, 2001, will leave office on November 15. His term would have run until January 17, 2006.

Under the state constitution, his successor will be Richard Codey, the current president of the state senate.

Adulterous Faggot

For the hyphenation-crazy libs, wouldn't that be: "Adulterous Faggot-American?"

In his press conference, McGreevey said: "In my most reflective and most spiritual point I have always asked 'which master should I serve'...I am a Gay American..."

If I were governor and held a press conference to say that I was a heterosexual American, would that be print worthy for the presstitutes? Yes. Either they would think me crazy, or condemn me for being a white male Christian homophobe racist gun nut.

Liberals/democRATs/socialist are so easy to predict.

I hope all is well with the Head family.

..uh, yeah me and his mom are so proud of his.... er... bravery."

The only thing missing from this photo is a revolver inside of his father's mouth.

Gotta hand at least hand it to him on that point.

Sick Slick...could have saved the nation alot of grief. Instead he helped divide the country....

Unfortunately, Mc Greevey waited until the US Atty's office was looking at him for reasons (probably) unrelated to his sexual preferences. It's my guess this MAY have been the real reason for his resignation.

You are probably correct......I jumped to a conclusion in an earlier post.

Heck, if it was "just about sex" about 95% of DemoSocialistMarxistLeftieLyingLibs pols....would have celebrated their "coming out". And been lauded and fawned over by the LameStreamers....

Actually I like Rush's take on the subject...And many times I'm proud to tell my co-worker's and friends that I am proudly a Male Lesbian.

The statement tends to get a furrowed brow or two....LOL!!

"I am a gay American." = I am an oppressed victim.

The lamestream media is going to slobber over the governers 'courage' about coming out.

It's like the whole world is going nutz!

He he he he. You said nutz on a Queer Politician for The Resignation Thread.

Actually, statistically there are not that many queers. Just a few %. The whole queer thing is way overblown.

As I've posted on and off here at FR. When I was in high school my best friends dad became "confused". And because of this I met numerous queer men. My friends dad had a business he started for his homo friends down in the Houston Montrose area (they stole him blind).

Just about all the queers I met and got to know were the most self-loathing and self-destructive people I ever met. And almost every one of them tried to seduce me. I was 16 at the time.

The queer organizations have met their goal over these past few decades of moving the focus from what they do. Anal sex, fecal ingestion, etc. to the "feeling" part of being a fag. And it has worked. Well, not with me but most people. Who only consider the false exterior all these wretched people display. And they are a wretched lot. Like this ex-gov. what has given goodness knows what kind of STD's to his wife.

Look at homo ex-gov boy. He's so proud. yech!

Well, things are as well as can be expected after the loss of Dad and my brother this year. We are missing them both (my Dad's birthday was the 10th), but grateful that they are not suffering from their diseases (heart disease and cancer) anymore and are back with our Savior.

Thank you for asking my friend.

Speaking of fathers...the governor's Dad seems to be about the only one in the famil in the pic reacting normally to this disgusting and wretched news of his son...the governor and his wife seem to be living in some kind of make believe world. The father of the governor is a WW II vet and good Irish Catholic from what I have heard.

"The announcement makes McGreevey the highest-ranking politician to identify himself as gay. There are no openly gay or lesbian senators, and there are three openly members of Congress: Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz., Rep.Tammy Baldwin, D-Wash., and Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass."

No, not a liberal.

I have no party affiliation. I was told to come to this sight with an open mind. I did, and I am outraged that libs can do what they do with no fear of reprisals. I was one of the undecideds, getting the truth from FR will be making me vote for W again in 2004.

WakeUpAndVote came from my observance of the masses that cry about the way things are and do not bother to vote.
