Group Runs Anti-Kerry Ads on Black Radio Stations
By Thomas B. Edsall Washington Post Staff Writer Thursday, August 12, 2004; Page A01
A group financed by a major Republican contributor has begun running radio ads in about a dozen cities, many in battleground states, attacking Sen. John F. Kerry as "rich, white and wishy-washy" and mocking his wife for boasting of her African roots.
The D.C.-based group, People of Color United, has substantial financial backing from J. Patrick Rooney, the former chairman of Golden Rule Insurance Co. and the founder of a new firm, Medical Savings Insurance Co. Both firms specialize in medical savings accounts, created by Republican-backed 1996 legislation, and health savings accounts, which were created by President Bush's 2003 Medicare prescription drug legislation.
One of the radio ads addresses Kerry's failure to vote on a bill to extend unemployment benefits for 13 weeks: "It needed 60 votes to pass. Ninety-nine out of 100 senators voted -- Kerry did not! It lost by one vote! Maybe Kerry thought the more of us who are unemployed and hurting, the more likely we would vote Democrat."

Of course they didn't phrase it as "saved taxpayers $16.5 billion...". They also didn't mention that it made health insurance more affordable, which might be of interest to blacks/whites/others...
What they need to run on Black radio station and on BET are ads about how Kerry supports Gay Marriage! blacks DO NOT go for that!
BOUT TIME. Let the folks know what a fool he is.
Don't tell me that the black community is waking up to the fact that the Dimorats have taken them for granted for the last 60 years. If so, THIS IS GREAT NEWS. Are these ads on Hip Hop stations?
Many people do not know that GW rec'd over 30% of the black vote in his reelection as Governor of Texas in l998. Do it again Dubya; do it again.
You are so right -- first thing I noticed was the total background on the ad's sponsor. I cannot remember if I have ever seen that for a RAT financed ad.
Callahan,
Contribute to the Swift Boat Vets, they could use it right now.
Rooney sounds like an interesting idividual. More power to him.
This ad makes the front page of the ComPost, but the Swifties only merits a smear from the editorial page and only long after the ad has been airing.
Please don't mind if I bold that and add the link :-)
wow! terrific ads! that's an organization to watch!
the Rooney guy is pretty impressive too. the article mentioned
his new company, which looks like it will be a big success

Woohoo!
This is terrific news. This is precisely what Republicans have been needing to do for ages. We've conceded the black vote by expecting them to come to listen to us on the networks and stations we like to listen to and watch, rather than us reaching out to talk to them on the stations they like to listen to and watch. The fact that whites and blacks usually don't watch and listen to the same entertainment has hardly been a secret, and Democrats have controlled those media outlets and have been feeding them 100% unfiltered liberal propaganda of the most excessive sort possible for decades. It's as much our fault as anyone else's for not talking to them.
If I see one person come on this thread and say "This is an example of how we shouldn't pander", I swear I will go ballistic. Only a -real- bigot could claim that an effort like this was "pandering". Serial offenders, consider yourselves warned. You know who you are.

When there were antiBush ads that reminded black radio listeners of the dragging death in Texas (or even before that when Bubba was playing up tales of a rash of "racist" church fires that proved false under FBI investigation), did the Washington Poop run a headline: "Anti-Bush Ads Run On Black Radio" or offer another Republican candidate name?
"Walden-Ford said she was disturbed by conversations with people in the black community who said they plan to vote for the Democratic ticket "because we [African Americans] are Democrats."
During the 2000 failed election theft attempt, I saw a black lady on the Baltimore news channel say she "always votes Democrat because Mr Lincoln freed the slaves".
You can't make that up.
Isn't it fascinating how all of a sudden, the libs are up in arms about rich (Republican) businessmen with an interest in politics funding commercials? Gosh, I wish they had 1/10 the interest in George Soros et al.
This is an example of how we shouldn't pander.
:)
BTTT
Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!

Don't worry, no dems, no one is going to tell you that because of course its not going to happen. The only one that needs to wake us it YOU.
Many people do not know that GW rec'd over 30% of the black vote in his reelection as Governor of Texas in l998. Do it again Dubya; do it again.
They should with you repeating this dead-end concept on here. Speaking of repeating, I'm still waiting for your comment on this painful little history lesson.
Hey I hope this ad can make black voters not turn out for Kerry, but the very idea that they are going to vote Republican is so foolish, so unrealistic as to be laughable.
How about, show me an example of how pandering to the extremely liberal, partisan Democrat mainstream black community has ever worked for the party of Lincoln?
(When that fails, try not to go ballistic.)
