Fellow FReepers,
One of our active members in the Illinois chapter, Unspun, has created an e-petition calling on Republican leaders on both the state and national level to immediately fully fund and support the U.S. Senate campaign of Dr. Alan L. Keyes.
I'm posting this on FR because all freepers across America are welcomed and encouraged to sign. And after you do, please forward it to others you know:
A re-elected President George W. Bush and our nation NEED Alan Keyes to assume Peter Fitzgerald's Senate seat. Fitzgerald was elected running as unapologetic conservative and that's exactly what Keyes is doing. Alan Keyes CAN win this election but only through the national efforts of conservatives everywhere. He is jumping into the race during the time of crisis when the Democrats are way ahead on fundraising.
It is especially important for Ambassador Keyes' wonderful voice of insightful American statesmanship and conscience to be heard in the Senate, instead of the liberal extremity represented by Barack Obama's Illinois State Senate votes.
This petition simply calls for Republican leaders to unite, to:
1. Introduce Alan Keyes to the campaign contributors they know.
2. Encourage the volunteers they know, to work for Dr. Keyes.
3. Strongly endorse Alan Keyes and work with his campaign
The time is short in this unique and historic campaign. The eyes of the nation are upon it. Alan Keyes' message must get to all the voters of Illinois.
The above link explains further. Opening it, you will see that this petition is starting to be being signed by dedicated Illinoisans and other Americans of principle, including grass roots and political leaders.
Won't you add your your name and town to the list?
The link to the petition itself is:

Thank you! Please pass it on! BUMP this thread!
As if.
Integrity demanded that someone take on Obama, and not leave him unchallenged, like you would do.
Go to DU yourself, your desperate need to throw insults and flee from all legitimate points is right up their alley. And also your lack of will to defend the intent of the founders in writing the Constitution would make you very popular.
Once again you prove that you have no point by resorting to insults and attempts to banish. I'm not going to join you in your flame war, I don't need to, I'm right, and you know it.
Hit a tender spot?
Integrity demand not doing something you know is wrong. Alan has stated that carpetbagging is wrong, but he's doing it anyway. The right thing for him to do would have been to campaign FOR a legitimate Illinois RESIDENT. I wouldn't have left Obama unchallenged, I would have picked from the legitimate crop of Illinois Republicans.
Hardly. You're just building a straw house on top of a shaky foundation of parochialism.
This isn't a straw house. It's the truth, non-residents cannot legitimately represent a state. And your need to use insults shows you know you can't win on facts. If you really thought you were right you could stick to the facts and can the insults. Facts win discussion, insults prove ignorance. Bring facts, rise to the challenge, argue like an adult, stop playing schoolyard bully it doesn't work if you can't actually punch the person you're trying to intimidate.
Yeah, like who?
If there was a viable candidate, where were they?
Alan didn't want this task. He refused it repeatedly until two things became clear: there wasn't anyone capable stepping up to the plate, and that Obama is so radical that he could not go unchallenged.
You're living in a dream world.
No. I just think you've become a joke, and a bad one.
If people don't like Keyes, it says nothing about their integrity. I'm sick and tired of you insulting good and decent people here.
Not everybody worships your idol, EV. Sooner or later, you're going to have to face that - and you're also going to have to face that your bitter, catty method of defending him from legitimate criticism does NOTHING to advance your cause. It hurts it. Badly.
Trust me on that.
Here's some guys they discussed:

Some even agreed to run. But instead the Illinois GOP decided to worship fame like a bunch of pathetic teenage Teenbeat dorks.
Then they should have run.
But that is history now.
Why not catch up?
Learning from history require aknowledging the mistakes of the past. Running Keyes is a mistake. I've caught up, you're still living in denial.
Why should I even have to defend the man in the middle of a campaign?
What do you think it says about you that I must?
And drop the 'idolize' stuff. It's not true.
He's a man, like any man prone to error and weakness.
But his redeeming qualities are many...qualities you are blind to.
He's the nominee. Grow up and live with it.
BTW, I should thank you for bumping the thread. I hope Alan banked a few more thousand for ads from your efforts.
It says that we disagree. That's what it says.
How dare you insult other people and suggest that they lack integrity because they disagree with you? Who do you think you ARE?
To borrow your phrase...AS IF!
'Your side' has insulted and questioned our integrity for four years without letup.
Who do you think YOU are?
Still winning friends and influencing voters, I see.
I see; the shoe is on the other foot now, isn't it, EV?
The answer to that question is, "Because we've had to defend George W. Bush to you for four years."
Just playing defense.
It's sad that I have to.
Don't y'all have some Democrats to attack?
