A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Lee Greenwood wrote those words in a song in 1983 to bring people together. In the introduction of his booklet entitled "God Bless the USA", which includes a CD of that song, he also wrote:
"I'm sometimes overwhelmed by this vast nation and wish I could see how America will change in the next one hundred years. As long as we continue to dream, create inventions, and solve the challenges of an ever-expanding population, we will have the power to create a better society. But it is inevitable that the freedom, liberty, and can-do attitude that characterize us will be challenged, sometimes in ways that leave us no choice but to defend ourselves and the land we love. It happened in 1941 at Pearl Harbor and again in 2001 at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon."

Through the years countless songs have been written and words spoken that celebrate the breadth of the American experience. Recalling a few, who can dispute the simplicity and beauty of such words as these:

~ from "America", by Samuel Francis Smith ~

"My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing:
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountainside
Let freedom ring."

~ from "America the Beautiful"
words by Katherine Lee Bates Martin
music by Samuel Ward ~

America! America!
God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control
Thy liberty in law."

~ Martin Luther King's American Dream ~

"I have a dream that one day...the sons of
former slaves and the sons of former slave
owners will be able to sit down together
at the table of brotherhood...I have a dream
that my four little children will one day
live in a nation where they will not be
judged by the color of their skin but by
the content of their character."

~ from Alistair Cooke ~

"It has always been cited as an irrepressible
symptom of America's vitality that her people,
in fair times and foul, believe in themselves
and their institutions."

~ from "The People, Yes", by Carl Sandburg ~

"The free man is willing to pay and struggle and die
for the freedom for himself and others
Knowing how far to subject himself to discipline
and obedience for the sake of an ordered society....
This free man is a rare bird and when you meet
him take a good look at him and try to figure him
out because some day when the United States of
this earth gets going and runs smooth and pretty
there will be more of him than we have now."

Just a little *useless* polling information from AOL....

AOL Straw Poll (AOL members can only vote once a month). As of this posting, Bush has 333 electoral votes to Kerry's 205. Kerry's fifteen states in this poll are: Maine, Vermont, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, West Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, New Mexico, California, Washington.

Countless Wonders

Read: Job 9:1-10

[God] does great things past finding out, yes, wonders without number. —Job 9:10

Bible In One Year: Psalms 79-80; Romans 11:1-18

When writer Aletha Lindstrom needs a lift for her spirits, she thinks of her favorite poetry book called Who Tells The Crocuses It's Spring? That prompts her to ask other questions like, "Who makes the trees turn all those beautiful colors in the autumn? Who splashes rain in shining puddles? Who makes the stars shimmer in the night?"

Such questions ought to stimulate our own grateful meditation. Centuries ago, Job exclaimed that it is God who "does great things past finding out, yes, wonders without number" (Job 9:10).

It is God who reminds the sun to rise at its appointed time every morning. It is God who keeps the earth steadily rotating at tremendous speed. It is God who feeds the sparrow and dresses the lilies in their splendor. It is God who guides the feathered flocks southward in the autumn and then brings them north again in the spring.

Argue if you like that all these wonders are simply the operation of the laws of nature. But just as civil law is the expression of human will, so also natural law is the expression of God's will and wisdom.

As we see the wonders of creation all around us, let's worship the One who designed them. —Vernon Grounds

This is my Father's world—
The birds their carols raise;
The morning light, the lily white
Declare their Maker's praise. —Babcock

In the wonders of creation we see God at work.

Good morning Billie. Good job!

O.k. LadyX and Gabz; I'm ready to continue our last night discussions... but first I must get off line for a while to call my mom. She and Dad still live in New Orleans and I don't like the looks of that tropical storm out in the Gulf now. I know the chance of it hitting there is slim but you never know...

I'll be back--

Good morning, Lakeside. I too have family in New Orleans so I know how you feel. We can only pray that the storm will go away without causing damage. Have a good day.

Pretty good for AOL I just hate to see NY in kerry's column

The funny thing, to me, is that I check out (and VOTE!) these polls that AOL has all the time, and the 'results' surprisingly are usually on our side.

I hate NY is in kerry's column, too. I hate ANY of them are in his column, but am so ready for this to be over - praying hard for President Bush. It says a lot that, with all the help kerry gets from media and bullying lawyers, President Bush is even 'holding his own'. Imagine, if you would, if you could, a fair and balanced media reporting fair and balanced news with no bias.....man! NO CONTEST! It would be, "Kerry...who?"

Hi, Texagirl. I don't think we did either, but thanks for being here this morning. Hope you're getting to spend more time at the PC without pain, or tiring so quickly, now. :)

John Kerry chopped down the cherry tree and blamed it on George W.

And that's the truth!

P.S. I love the pictures this morning.

I don't think NY is going to be the landslide the dems think it will be.
You know politics and religion are my passions and I don't hesitate to mix them,
they are and were supposed to be an intergral part of our society per the founding fathers..

I do alot of work in the trenches of new york and man there are an overwhelming
amount of democrats here and most are hardcore union.

I have swayed probably a dozen away from kerry and they are voting for President Bush.. : )
They key is education, educate them about issues, the toughest thing to do
is to keep them on the issues. Once that is done we can win them over..

So much work is done in the trenches, and I can only Pray that the Repubs and the President realize this..
