Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 9:59 a.m. EDT Kerry Edwards Campaign Snubs Cancer Kids

The Kerry Edwards campaign disappointed dozens of children suffering with cancer on Sunday when the candidates' whistlestop train tour failed to stop and greet them while traveling through a ranch where they were vacationing in New Mexico.

"The train tracks run for four miles through the ranch," complained radio host Don Imus, who runs the Imus Ranch for the kids - some of them terminally ill - near Santa Fe, New Mexico.

"We couldn't even get them to even slow down so they could wave." he lamented. The tart-tongued talker, who has supported Kerry for president since early this year, was understandably angered by the snub, telling his audience Monday that Kerry will "never get to be president if this is how he's going to behave."

Reflecting his anger, Imus derided Teresa Heinz Kerry as "Lady MacBeth" and referred to Sen. Edwards several times as "The Breck Girl."

I'm surprised Kerry even needs a turner to flip-flop pancakes!

LOL just what I was thinking too ! He's so good at it, he could probably do it with his "mind powers".

Good, I'm glad he's wasting time and money in New Mexico. It's probably his state anyway. I hope he goes to California next, and after that maybe Hawaii.

Yep! It's standard stuff on those bus tours/train tours.

My understanding is that President Bush actually stays on the bus/train. I can see where Kerry gets his train photo-op and then rides on his private jet and dine on caviar.

That came out wrong. I was specifically commenting on this:

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), D-Mass., meets with New Mexicans on his campaign train near Gallup, N.M.,

I didn't mean that I was glad cancer kids got snubbed ! Just glad that he's in NM wasting his money. But I don't know, after this, maybe the Land of Enchantment might go up for grabs.

Yeah Imus was really ripping him. Nice to hear for once.

Of course if Tereeesa opens up her wallet and writes another check tot he ranch, all will be forgiven in very short order(at least by Imus). As for the kids--well Kerry knows they don't vote yet and hence acted accordingly.

I guess arrogance is hard to put aside even for a moment and even when travelling through fly-over country. Someone needs to stick a mike in Gov. Richardson's face and insist on his take Kerry stiffing kids in his state.

Great! I will begin listening to him again now! After Andrea Mitchell is on (so after 6:30 a.m. in the morning)...hopefully Imus doesn't flip flop again.

Umm - not to be picky, but I think you mean Roger Miller. Roger Whittaker is, IIRC, the British singer whose only big hit was the hauntingly beautiful "Last Farewell".

I used to go to Roger Whitaker concerts. He's a 60's and 70's folk music goober. He wrote and sang some really good stuff and some really horrid stuff. He did "Boxcar Willy" and sang a lot about hobos and trains.

If Teresa had to spend more than an hour on a train, someone would see the guillotine. She runs about on her Gulfstream. You don't raise much campaign cash hosting bigwigs on a train.

No, I'm afraid the rails are for the Wendy's crowd.

I am sensing the Imus flip-flop he patented in 2000 when he supported Gore until about September and then flipped to Bush.

McAuliffe to Kerry/Edwards: "Don't waste your time at that ranch. The kids are to young to vote and they don't fool easily. Besides, you might catch something. Got to keep up your strength for the real losers in LA."

Good pick up. It did not show up as well as I wanted it to when I did it.

yall should have heard Bo Dietl,,it was hysterical. He kept talking about the little children crying. It was funny, all the crew were laughing. I still think Imus is a mole for us.

Didn't know that about him - I'd never heard of him until "The Last Farewell". Sounds like he's pretty versatile.
