Tancredo wants more data on illegal immigrants

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo is pressing the Department of Homeland Security for more detailed illegal immigration data, fearing the country's southern border has become an open door for would be terrorists.

This week, Tancredo and 11 other members of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, which he chairs, wrote to Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. They want unreleased data on people apprehended trying to enter the country illegally since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Specifically, they wan't to know how many non-Mexican immigrants have been apprehended along the southern border and how many people detained after crossing the Mexican or Canadian border are "special interest aliens" from countries that have suspected terrorism ties.

According to published reports, federal officials are investigating possible terrorists connections to a woman carrying a South African passport, who was arrested after crossing the U.S. - Mexico border in Texas.

"The incident raises a larger issue...whether or not terrorists from the Middle East are using our inadequately patrolled land borders with Canada and Mexico for easy entry into the United States," the lawmakers wrote to Ridge.

illegal immigrants

Hooray--at the very least--they use the term illegal, rather than undocumented.

Last night, tried to suffer through the NBC story about health care crumbling due to no-pay patients. Every time Brokejaw referred to the illegal alien woman, he insisted upon calling her an, "undocumented immigrant" who--while fully employed--could not afford to pay for a nickel of her medical bills. Yet, she had the time to smile ear-to-ear and act astounded that we are so stoopid to pay for her top-notch diagnostic tests.

okay--I digress...

The data would be embarrasing to our President, so if we get it, it will be after the elections.

There are two areas of serious concern. This article touches on one of them. The other is the growing concern over middle-eastern types on aircraft doing what some think are 'dry runs' for the real thing to follow.

The one similarity between these two problems, is that the federal government is suspected of stonewalling on the serious nature of both. During the well-known incident with the Syrian Musicians, it was revealed that air flight crews say this happens quite often.

It's also suspected that the government has been apprehending some serious problem individuals coming accross our southern border, but is stonewalling that information as well.

In this day and age, the feds should be up front with what they are encountering, and deal with the problems represented by their findings.

Stonewalling on these issues became unacceptable long before, but certainly at the very least on 09/11/2001.

"No matter where we came from, or why we came...
Here, we found opportunity... a better education for our children...the medical care our families deserve."

That's even in the Spanish ads for Bush. The medical care they deserve just from coming here???

You mentioned that one hospital losing $300 million. Did you know that around 1996 the LAUSD budget was $9 billion per hear. At that time fully one-third of their students were the children of illegal aliens. That's $3 billion dollars per year in one school district.

I laugh quite often as I read that California spends $5 billion per year on illegal immigrants. That's preposterous. Think of all the other schood districts, the hundreds of hospitals throughout the state, $5 billion? My estimate is between $10 and $20 billion per year.

Once in a long while--this was one of those accidental finds that piqued my curiosity for a moment. The subject is up my career alley, and I tuned in.

Had to change channels posthaste.
