Two homes catch fire in Hempstead leaving 17 people homeless
Play the video (08/11/04) HEMPSTEAD - Two people are recovering after an early morning fire ripped through two homes in Hempstead on Wednesday.
The blaze started in an abandoned house on Sammis Place and quickly spread to a neighboring home. In all, 17 people were left homeless. They are being put up by the American Red Cross. Many neighbors say the house that initially caught fire had been an eyesore in the community for months.
Hempstead Village Mayor James Garner says residents never told community leaders about the problem. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
*** Please note that 17 people lived in ONE house. Such is getting more common, and it is a strain on property tax payers. I say go Tancredo. Do as much as possible.
Just to make sure, all of Arizona, or is it as I suspect only the section under Yuma control?
These are startling numbers. We know that the border patrol only apprehends 5-15%, depending on who you talk to. The actual numbers flooding across our borders is staggering.
This is just part of Arizona, if I understand you correctly. That means California's, more of Arizona, New Mexico's and Texas' numbers aren't even listed.
Then theres the claim that a major portion of the illegals are from deeping down in the Americas, not just Mexico. This report puts the slammer on that claim.
We're looking at three possibly as much as five million people coming across our southern border each year.
This doesn't even address those who have been flying in.
Lord have mercy!
...and on top of all that, this was only eight months.
This deserves a thread of it's own.
This is all of Arizona. 100% of the Tucson Sector and the Arizona offices of the Yuma Sector.
Tomorrow, I'll post California, New Mexico and Texas.
After that I'll crunch the FY 2003 numbers.
Correct.
It's completely amazing how short sighted the border policies of this administration are --- they hope to get as many votes as they can out of it, but they aren't considering the long-range damage to this country. The huge costs of providing education and free medical care to the huge indigent population of Mexico could easily be the straw that broke our Socialist state's back.
Those numbers surprise me --- I thought there would be more from Guatemala and Honduras.
I want to know when will American Citizens get amnesty.
Lets face the facts, Reagan was in 8 years, Bush 1 and 2 another 8. Thats 16 years with a republican in the White House and still no control of the border, not even now in a time of WAR.
New GOP mantra, better mexican than muslim.
Que viva la REPUBLICALIBRE.COM!!!!
I would think New Mexico and Texas are quite a bit higher than Arizonas. Apprehensions might not be --- the Mexican buses going from El Paso to Los Angeles always seem to have every seat filled.
They move through Texas.
Texas has almost 18,000 apprehensions out of Guatemala and Honduras.
California and Texas combined don't equal Arizonas apprehensions, but they do get more OTM's.
Thank you. What a great service.
Your welcome.
Yowser! Those numbers don't include Texas.
Thanks for the numbers, big guy, but more Israelis than the rest of the Middle East combined? The truth revealed by conspicuous absence.
Youre welcome. California and Texas have most of the Middle Eastern apprehensions.
I'll have Texas up tomorrow.
Ping to post #40!
We had an article in today's paper about a Honduran woman who told of her trek through Mexico. At one point she was at the hand of robbers with machetes. She said it was more difficult to get into and through Mexico than the US. She swam the Rio Grande river with an inner tube 3 times before she made it. She stated that the reason she came was that her husband beat her in Honduras. She has been here for 3 years, so she is here to stay.
I'll be boarding up the windows tomorrow--Hurricane Charley.
