Bush: Raise (Immigration) Limit for Mexico
The Washington Times ^ | 08-07-2004 | Bill Sammon

Posted on 08/07/2004 2:27:23 PM PDT by NewRomeTacitus

President Bush yesterday called on Congress to increase the number of Mexican immigrants allowed into the United States.

"I support raising the quotas on certain population groups, like the Mexican nationals, on who can become a citizen. In order to solve the logjam for citizenship, Congress has got to raise the quotas."

Having long sought to grant legal status to illegal aliens from Mexico, the president said yesterday that the only way to enact his plan is to allocate more legal-immigration slots to Mexicans.

"The issue there is whether or not people automatically get to step in the front of the line when it comes to citizenship," he said. "I don't think they should. I think those who have been waiting in line to be a citizen ought to be allowed to keep that priority in line."

Mr. Bush did not explain how non-Mexican applicants for U.S. residency would keep their place in line if the quota for Mexican immigrants is enlarged. Nor did he quantify his proposed enlargement for Mexicans, who already far outnumber immigrants from every other nation.

The president's plan to relax immigration rules, which is unpopular among many conservatives, entails granting legal status to millions of Mexicans who break the law to enter the United States. Mr. Bush shuns the term "amnesty," preferring to call it the matching of "willing workers with willing employers."

"People ought to be allowed to be here legally to work. That's what I believe. This will help bring people out of the shadows of our society. This will help, kind of, legalize a system that takes place every day, without employers...or employees feeling like they're going to be arrested, subjected to fines," he added.

Well gee C.D. You're right. Heck, let's start a movement right now to get everyone to vote for the lying, treasonous, baby killing, queer marriage proponent, John Kerry for President and his foreign-born witch-of-a-wife for First Lady. That would really do our kids and grandkids proud in future years. YEAH!! LET'S DO IT!!

BTW, if some people would keep their mouth shut no one would know just how ignorant they really are.

Because the previous poster didn't take the time to neatly edit the article to include all the President's comments so they may be seen without going to the link, that's why.

In other words, you're pissed because "the previous poster" disagreed with Bush's spin and you wanted to include Bush's compassionate conservative take on the issue.

Admin Moderator, can you please kill this thread?

Don't you think that's even worse that he's telling this to the citizens of Mexico and not telling us?

This is the final straw. I cannot vote for this man.

Someone else made the case that if Kerry were president he'd get nowhere with his own pro-illegal agenda just because he's a Democrat. That may be true, but the guy would still be a disaster for terrorism and court appointments. I'll be trembling with rage when I push the incumbant button. We should have a viable third alternative when choices one and two look too much alike.

That is how I saw it, too, when I read the title. He is saying this because he needs the Hispanic vote. I'm not familiar with how these things actually get implemented. As I understand it, Congress makes the final decision on things like this, is that right? So, as I see it, Bush makes his preference known and (maybe) gets the vote. Now if this issue is really anathema to Americans, then they can let their views known to their representatives who will then vote on it. Is that right?

What else can he do?

Hm. How about get JLo (and Marc Anthony!) to endorse him? ;-) Haha. Just a thought.

I demand that we count the illegals as part of Mexico's allocation.

I agree. Why shouldn't we?

That's the goal of the Buchanan Pukes.

It's like television, knob. You have the choice to move along to something you like better or shut it off. Are you aware of something known as the First Amendment? You have NO right to suppress anyone here and I don't recall seeing "Jim Robinson" as your screen name.

I stated in #5 that everyone deserves to see exactly what the President said. If you don't like what he said take it up with him.

Bush "called on Congress to increase the number of Mexican immigrants allowed into the United States."

OMG I am speechless. I am not going to vote for Bush.

The excerpt doesn't include this sentence...

Yes'm; excerpts are limited to 300 words. I really wanted to retain that.

He is the biggest suck up. I agree - I cannot vote for someone who is working against his own people in favor of the New World Order/globalist crowd.

Hire an illegal domestic and lose your house.
Hire an illegal construction crew and lose your business
Hire an illegal janitor and lose your corporate charter and all corporate assets.

I'll vote for you any day - someone who actually makes sense.

He is saying this because he needs the Hispanic vote.

But what is the "hispanic" vote --- it's not really the monolith some like to think --- because what is a "hispanic" --- the Americans in the SW of Spanish ancestry who have been here since before this was the USA aren't usually in favor of massive unlimited immigration from Mexico. The Cubans in Miami aren't necessarily in favor of merging with Mexico any more than the Puerto Ricans are. Many previous and legal immigrants from Mexico aren't necessarily in favor of the rest moving over making their neighborhoods look just like the ones they left when they came here. Who is in favor of massive immigration from Mexico? The Mexican government for one --- and of course all those in Mexico who are planning to come over. This helps with their vote --- not the vote of the other so-called "hispanics".

I for one, thank you for the repost.

I think the problem is not necessarily immigration, but the lack of assimilation within certain communities. Nevertheless, President Bush may be isolating Conservatives who support him on this issue, for a group that doesn't seem to care much for the Republican party.

Some people here will defend Bush at any cost, even if he is just the lesser of two evils.

I've been a FReeper for over three years. And in that time I have never seen anyone ask that a fellow FReeper's post be removed.

This issue certainly brings out the crazies.

FWIW...I'm glad you reposted this.
