I know it is hypothetical, but what is the law about substituting someone else for Kerry/Edwards now that he has accepted the nomination.

Can Kerry be substituted for on the ballot?

Why not figure it out now, rather than scramble around for the reasons it is illegal when they pull it on us.

The first reaction will be critical.

Doubtful. One state's Dem Party making a substitution is one thing. Pulling Kerry for The Hildabeast would require all 50 states' partys working together.

I think the leaders of the liberal Dems (the Clintoni family) are real happy with the way Kerry is self-destructing. In my opinion, that is exactly what they want -- for that reason, and probably others, he will remain on the ticket.

Unless the Clintoni family loses control, they are right on their plan centerline. Hillary in 2008. (as absurd as the concept is).

This is called the "Lautenberg Gambit", and it worked in New Jersey... and heaven knows, the Dems seem to want to make up the rules as they go along.

Well according to the NJ Supreme court, the people have a right to a viable Democrat candidate. I'm sure the courts would let the 'Rats violate whatever ballot deadline they would have to to replace John F'n, if it became necessary.

I am looking for the Presidential election law, is it a state by state ballot issue? I am sure that Hillary and McAuliffe have this all figured out. I am serious about this request, I don't think it is likely, I just want to know whether it is even possible.

Replacing Kerry on the ticket may not be as difficult as replacing his name on the ballot.

Every state establishes it's own deadline for ballots to be finalized, if Kerry withdraws from the ticket after any of these deadlines, his name will likely remain on the ballot in those states.

If there candidate for whatever was so damaged as to have no chance of election, they would do it if possible, IMHO. It hasn't happened yet, but it could. It happened in NJ for that same reason.
