Bruce Springsteen, REM, and more tour for political change.

SEATTLE, WA.  Friday 8.6.2004  /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Is political change in the air for the USA?

Artists like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, REM, John Mellencamp, Babyface, John Fogerty, The Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper, Pearl Jam and the Dixie Chicks hope so. These musicians, along with James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Jurassic 5, Keb' Mo', Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie and My Morning Jacket, have formed a coalition of musicians who make up the Vote For Change Tour. Presented by MoveOn PAC, the tour launches October 1, one month before the US presidential election. The artists will bring their message for political change to nine of the 17 key electoral swing states. The musicians' goal is to get people to vote for a change on November 2. As Mike Mills of REM put it, "This unprecedented coming together of musicians underscores the depth of the desire for change in our country's direction."

Four months ago, a loose coalition of musicians conceived of the Vote for Change Tour. The multi-city, multi-artist tour includes approximately 34 shows in 28 cities in nine states over the course of one week. All concert proceeds benefit the work of America Coming Together (ACT).

"The upcoming election provides everyone an opportunity to change the direction our country is headed and to elect a government that is just, rational and respectful of the views and rights of the people it serves. This coalition of artists wants to be a part of that change," said Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard.

During his 25-year career, Bruce Springsteen says he has "always stayed one step away from partisan politics." So why is The Boss getting involved now? Springsteen explained, "I felt like I couldn't have written the music I've written, and been on stage singing about the things that I've sung about for the last twenty five years and not taken part in this particular election." He added, "This year...for many of us the stakes have risen too high to sit this election out.

Keb' Mo' added, "It's about showing up and being counted."

The artist lineups include:

• Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, REM, John Fogerty and Bright Eyes
• Dixie Chicks and James Taylor
• Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie
• Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper, Jurassic 5 and My Morning Jacket
• Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Keb’ Mo’ and others TBA
• John Mellencamp and Babyface

The artists will appear on separate bills on the same night in select cities around several battleground states. More acts will also be added to the line-ups.

Tickets for all Vote For Change shows in all cities go on sale August 21 through Ticketmaster. For more information about Vote for Change, including ticket information and updates, go to www.moveonpac.org. For more information on ACT visit www.act04.com.

Said Dave Matthews, "This election is the most important one in our lifetime. It may be the most important in America’s history."

The first time I remember having thougts like this was in 1984 when Rob Lowe conspicuously appeared at the Democratic convention...

Why do these celebrities think we give an airborne crap what their political opinions are?

I saw Death Cab for Cutie a few months ago -- I love their music. Unfortunately, it was the worst concert I'd seen in quite some time.

I saw Death Cab for Cutie a few months ago...

Isn't that the name of any vehicle Ted Kennedy happens to be driving? You know, kind of like "Air Force One" is the plane the President is riding?

I wouldn't cross the street for any of these acts...

Going to see George Jones again in October. Saw him two years ago - the place was in tears during "The Wall", and at the end when a huge American flag was brought out and he sang "God Bless the USA". A great American!

Said Dave Matthews, "This election is the most important one in our lifetime. It may be the most important in America’s history."

Well, Dave, I wouldn't go that far (the 1860 election was pretty important, but you probably don't know anything about that one, seeing that for you history began when you sipped your first latte this morning), but you are right to say this is a very important election.

This election will determine if we continue to win the war on terrorism, or if we become a nation that licks the boots of the terrorists and their eurotrash enablers.

I don't see anything that says that they will ONLY sell tickets to people who can legally vote/contribute to US political campaigns.

http://www.moveonpac.org/vfc/tickets.html

MoveOn was already caught earlier this year or late last year accepting foreign funny money.
