This has been one of my mantras since I arrived at FR in '97 ('96?). Holding rallies, working to get candidates elected, etc., is of immediate importance, but until we solve the media prejudice issue, we will always be pushing that boulder up the hill only to have it roll back down on us the moment our attention is diverted.
Liberals have to rely on propaganda and intimidation, in the media, in education, in unions, etc., to maintain control. They know it is the mothers milk of their effectiveness. Conservatives, if we are ever to achieve a lasting ascendancy and eliminate liberalism as a significant cultural influence, must understand that a long term plan on confronting and overcoming this challenge must be put in place or we will always just come up short of our goals.
Do you think Clinton would have been re-elected, Hillary still sitting in the Senate, Gore almost winning in '00 and sKerry this close in '04 if it wasn't for the lapdog media who decides not only what information is disseminated, but as important, what isn't and how and where it is presented?
People say we have Fox News. Fox News does very well and beats the other cable stations, but when you add up the numbers for the others all together, they beat Fox. And, they still got Rather, Brokaw and Jennings. They still have the NY/LA Times and magazines. They still got our universities, our unions, our entertainment industry (an information dissemination industry all it's own). Yes, we got the internet, but it pales to the competitions advantage.
I'm not going to present a plan, I have my own ideas and am working on some of them. I'd like to hear what the FReepers have to say and what ideas you have, and, how far you are willing to go.
Can we get Mr. Scafie to buy the New York Times for us?
Like Rush said, they started it. If Kerry wants to make Viet Nam an issue, then let's have a look back at it.
Check out these very spot-on related articles at National Review Online BobJ:
This one is long but really informative:

FOX media calls THE TRUTH....IS DISPICABLE?..
Bwahahahaha.....FOX NEWS failure to report the news and still calling itself a news agency
instead of a PROPAGANDA MINISTRY FOR PROFIT
IS DISPICABLE
IMO
Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, and locally (Apollo Astronaut/talk show host) Walter Cunningham have all supported the veterans.
I turned on the alphabet networks tonight and there was NO coverage (although it had been covered by ABC and CBS on radio news updates every hour).
NBC did have time to cover the Bruuuuce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band, et al Millionaires For The Billionaire - Useful Idiots 2004 Tour.
Are you suggesting we've won? (Rumble, rumble, rumble...the sounds of a boulder rolling back over us)
The DNC has already threatened legal action against media outlets that run the ad. Yes, they are that dumb but if they can keep it off the air until September, CFR will do the rest.
I wouldn't rely on the kindness of Sugar Daddies. What can we do?

Vietnam veterans accuse Kerry of civilian abuses
By David Rennie in Washington
(Filed: 06/08/2004)
A group of Vietnam veterans launched an assault on Senator John Kerry's war record yesterday as the fight for the presidency turned ugly.
Thirteen men from the naval patrol squadron in which Mr Kerry served, calling themselves "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth", appeared in a television advertisement accusing him of claiming falsely to be a hero.
John Kerry: accused of civilian abuse during the Vietnam war
They said he lied to win his gallantry medals and alleged that he committed abuses against civilians in the Mekong Delta [excerpt]
But the added publicity they are giving it is working against them. Remember Fox News' lawsuit against Stuart Smalley?
You just gave me an unpleasant Kerry-Soros image there.
What can we do?
Got to think on this one.
Exellent. The question is whether it will reach their print edition or go down the rabbit hole tomorrow.
A new right-wing TV ad is very disturbing, which slanders Sen. John Kerry.
From the dictionary:
slander
. 1. Law. Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person's reputation.
2. A false and malicious statement or report about someone.
Mr. NoSpinZone has already judged the add and assumes that the statements of all the vets are false and malicious. All they have said is the ugly truth about a self righteous poser.
This one is going to reverberate for a while. I'm afraid that it will allow Kerry to play the victim in an attempt to soften future Bush attack ads, knowing that negative ads are coming on Kerry's term as Dukakis' Lt. Governor, and his two decades in the Senate.

You hit on something there. Fox and the other channels sent marching orders to bash the group....even thought the group has a lot of credit. One of their members was on a boat next to Kerry's
I missed it, but that's sickening. I just heard the guys on MSNBC OUTRIGHTLY calling the Swiuft Boat Vets' claims LIES. The dark haired moderator at the eight o'clock hour and some liberal dweeb reporter just called their words LIES. No questions asked!
I feel like @&%@$*&@! someone!!
Bob J, I am constantly writing here "the mainstream media is America's strongest, most ruthless and destructive enemy." Please ping me whenever you write about the media. I hate them with a passion. They are killing the country, and we have little time left.
Live by the Sugar Daddy, die by the Sugar Daddy.
The Swiftboat Veterans may not get airtime on news programs as the election nears and they will be prohibited from buying airtime because of Campaign Finance Reform laws.
They should challenge CFR as unconstitutional government censorship and continue airing ads after the prohibition kicks in.
What are we going to do about it?
The media gimps are biased as h3ll on the Swift boat stuff.
Part of it is marching orders....and part of it is the letter sent out by DNC LAWYERS to media groups.
Greg Knap on KLIF 570 in Dallas read the letter today.
It basically said they would file suit against the media types if the mentioned the ad and did not call it bogus.
