This has been one of my mantras since I arrived at FR in '97 ('96?). Holding rallies, working to get candidates elected, etc., is of immediate importance, but until we solve the media prejudice issue, we will always be pushing that boulder up the hill only to have it roll back down on us the moment our attention is diverted.
Liberals have to rely on propaganda and intimidation, in the media, in education, in unions, etc., to maintain control. They know it is the mothers milk of their effectiveness. Conservatives, if we are ever to achieve a lasting ascendancy and eliminate liberalism as a significant cultural influence, must understand that a long term plan on confronting and overcoming this challenge must be put in place or we will always just come up short of our goals.
Do you think Clinton would have been re-elected, Hillary still sitting in the Senate, Gore almost winning in '00 and sKerry this close in '04 if it wasn't for the lapdog media who decides not only what information is disseminated, but as important, what isn't and how and where it is presented?
People say we have Fox News. Fox News does very well and beats the other cable stations, but when you add up the numbers for the others all together, they beat Fox. And, they still got Rather, Brokaw and Jennings. They still have the NY/LA Times and magazines. They still got our universities, our unions, our entertainment industry (an information dissemination industry all it's own). Yes, we got the internet, but it pales to the competitions advantage.
I'm not going to present a plan, I have my own ideas and am working on some of them. I'd like to hear what the FReepers have to say and what ideas you have, and, how far you are willing to go.
Why is it that everything will hurt President Bush? Whatever is aimed at Dems. The pundits say it will hurt the President. What are we to do? Sit in the corner and wait tell the election?
I think they were able to establish that, except for Kerry, guys don't put themselves in for Purple Hearts. I think they established the doctor's account, a band-aid scratch and Kerry presenting himself - him self - the next day demanded a Purple Heart. That's nutty behavior, no matter what he did to that VC with the rocket, or for Rassman, who claims he was taking fire, that apparently others a few feet away simply never saw.
Rassman, the ex-Green Beret, seems like a real interesting story, here. I hope there's something about it in Unfit for Command. Amazon is promising Aug 20+ for delivery.
Several comments...
Various media figures, not politicians, have always been at the top of my list when someone asks (and they *do* ask...) "Who will we hang first, when the time comes"? (Yes, there are many politicians on my list, but NOT at the top).
There was an effort underway a couple of years back, to put together an organized campaign against media bias - I believe it was being coordinated on "frnetwork.org". Unfortunately, of curse, I never had the time to contribute the way I wanted to. If it's not still in operation, maybe it's time to resurrect it.
The media, regardless of what they are ideologically, are whores. They CAN be brought to heel by pressure tactics. If we do not wield enough influence to offset the mindless allegiances of the droves of Oprah-and-football watchers, the best tactic is probably to single out particularly egregious and vulnerable offenders for punishment by impacting them economically or by making it impossible for them to "Do Their Job". A few successes will have the desired "Chilling Effect" upon the rest of the coven.
Meanwhile, the trend IS *against* the major media. The fact that they are losing viewship/readership, and that the Internet didn't even exist a few years back, and that Fox now exists, are proof of this. Additionally, the way "Talk Radio" inspires such abject terror on the Left - *despite* their ideological control of the vast majority of media outlets - speaks for itself. We should be acting accordingly - advancing while the tide is in our favor, and doing what we can to increase the enemy's dismay over the gains we've made.
Meanwhile, on the specific issue at hand... maybe I'm naive, but the screaming, howling indignation of the media (not to mention O'Reilly's complete disorientation) is an indication to me not of failure, but of success. When the Left howls like that (and it's just *music* to my ears...) it means to me that they've been stuck hard, right where it hurts. (There's a German word, "dolchstoss", which hits it right on the head).
Moreover, I predicted to my wife months ago that Kerry's little "performance" before Congress when he got back from Vietnam was going to come back to haunt him in a *big* way, and that his fellow veterans, while they regard Clinton as a coward for dodging the draft, would regard Kerry as a *traitor* - and that they would come after him fully armed. I was right. Moreover, they will not give up, and they will not go away, and - I'll stick my neck out here and make a prediction - no matter what the media does, "the charges WILL stick...".
Just my $0.02...
.
My husband went to Sam's Club today to buy a few things and he was confronted by a huge setup of Clinton's book as he entered the store. He was shocked and PO'ed at the same time.
Is everyone out there lapdogs? I know they are owned by Walmart, so what's the deal?
I'm not too surprised .. They need to push his book big time and they need to shove it in peoples faces so they won't forget about it
A poster on another thread compared O'Reilly to P.T. Barnum. I think we have to realize these people first and foremost are there to sell advertising and will tell us anything to acheive this goal. The ones like O'Reilly who fool us the longest win the game and the contract.
bump
Rush proved you can do that AND maintain your integrity.
O'Reilly has no integrity.
One possible plan:
The mormon church has been using portions of its tithes to buy up stock in corporate entities. For instance, Marriott hotels are owned by the Mormons (hence the presence of the BOM in Marriott hotel rooms) Perhaps it's time to take a plan out of their playbook to engineer a hostile takeover of AOL Time Warner and Disney.
After they corporate entities are under proper control, a study could be done to see who the worst offenders were in violating ethical behavior and then terminating them.
The end result is that liberal media bias would be exiled to the NYT and other print media which is much less effective in modern society than television or radio as a medium of political persuasion or coersion.
Yes, it's the Media. I have thought that ever since as a young girl I witnessed what they did to Dan Quayle and Judge Bork.
It's also how the Communists in this country have over the years steadfastly positioned themselves into controlling key elements of our society that I find so chilling. The Media, the Public Education System, Environmental organizations, the Hollywood/TV scene, and various gov't offices. The fact that they now so boldly slant and censor the news, intimidate, harass, etc. those that would dare to oppose their stated political preferences should indicate just how arrogantly confident they feel, poised to slide into complete takeover of our gov't.
And then there is election fraud......These Commies have been working diligently for years to prevent another loss for them- one way or the other.
What is left is to decide where do we go from here?
Chilling indeed.
>>> Wouldn't that be censorship?
No. Not if they only asked them to. It would be censorship only if Ashcroft demanded them to.
But the lib media would play it up as such nonetheless, so it's a moot distinction.
>>> Bush should say NOTHING about it!
On the contrary. Bush should condemn it publically. We need to let the public think we are taking the high road here.
But he should NOT try to stop it. He is in a great place right now -- he can stay positive while the vets, Hannity, Rush et al do all the dirty work. With these resources, Bush should run a 100% clean, positive campaign.
Then when Kerry goes negative, Bush can blast the hell out of him for doing something he won't stoop to.
When my mother was a young woman, she contracted Diptheria, which was deadly. Since she didn't KNOW that, she survived it.
I have had that philosophy all my life...and more Americans need to adopt it: If you don't know you can't win, you need to fight as if you CAN win! Chances are EXTREMELY good that you will!
Remember the old PR adage, "The only thing worse that being talked bad about, is not being talked about at all."
Agreed, the entire education system is infested and must be dealt with.
