More financial institutions than previously disclosed may be at risk of attack and an Al Qaeda operative has told British intelligence that the groups target date is early September, intelligence sources said yesterday.

The operative, described as credible by British intelligence, told his debriefers that the attack would take place '60 days before the US presidential election' on November 2, according to a former National Security Council official.

On September 2 President Bush is expected to address the Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden.

Counter terrorism officials are analyzing data from a computer siezed in Pakistan last month to see if financial instutions in addition to the five disclosed last Sunday are at risk of attack, US officials said yesterday.

A US official familiar with the ongoing analysis of the computer said, 'There are reference to other buildings in the Al Qaeda computer data including a picture of the Bank of America building in San Francisco. 'There is mention of other places.'

I think this date is a no-brainer. At least we have confirmation.

They would try. However, here in the US, a terrorist attack would only swing more voters to W.

Admin needs to get out front on this.

Was it basd on old information or current information?

Dems and lib media are set to pounce on this. Was Dean right after all?

Where is the GWB PR team? Where? This 'old data' is going to grow. If it has any substantiation, it will make the Abu Ghraib stories look like small potatoes.

Libs/Dems took Iraq War away from GWB and made it an albatross for him (true or not). You can bet they will plaster this all over the media, if it has potential (true or not).

I agree, but think it should've been done a long time ago. Most of the bad guys are probably already in-country. Closing them now is like "closing the barn door after the horse got out" :( .

It is unconcionable for the NY Slimes to be shilling the 'old intel' spin line for the Kerry campaign.

AlQ takes years to effect a plan. They are very meticulous. That's what is mean by "old information".

The Madrid attack was just a few days prior to their balloting day. I would expect AQ to be "smart" about things, and time both the attack and "leaked" info for maximum effect.

Therefore, I'd surmise that the actual attack would be closer to Nov 2. I'd surmise that any leaked info or chatter to aim at something earlier to get our defenses up earlier so that as the weeks drone on without an attack, defenses get slowly eroded and the public has a longer time window for fear to spread.

They may not be trying to swing the election. The terrorists may be attempting to kill the President.

I'm glad you're confident of that, because I'm sure not.

Boortz is echoing the sentiment that these alerts are reaching the 'cry wolf' syndrome. Boortz thinks Dean's allegation has merit, since the reports that the alerts were based on 'old data.'

But John Kerry has a plan to deal with all of this...he just won't tell anybody what it is until he is in power.

As far as the terrorists are concerned?

Bring it on, you cowardly little chickensh!t muslim a$$holes.

If this isn't a big red flag indicating the "Terrorists for Kerry" campaign than I don't know what is.

They will do anything to get GWB out of office, and for only one reason...he is stopping them dead in their tracks.
