The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Police Secure Businesses on Terror Alert
NEW YORK - Police searched trucks, blocked streets and posted machine-gun toting officers outside financial landmarks Monday, a day after the government's chilling warning that terrorists might target the buildings with bombs.

This may be a start, but we've got a long way to go:

US airports to track departures
From correspondents in Washington
August 4, 2004

THE US government's system for ensuring that foreign visitors left the United States when expected would be expanded to 11 more airports and two seaports, a Homeland Security Department official said today.

Asa Hutchinson, the undersecretary for border and transportation security, made the announcement at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, which will begin participating later this month.

All foreign visitors who travel with a visa are fingerprinted and photographed, through the US-VISIT program, when they arrive at major US airports and seaports. The fingerprints and photos are automatically checked against databases to ensure that documents are legitimate and the visitor's name does not appear on terrorist or law enforcement watch lists.

Tracking the departure dates of foreign visitors has been a problem. An estimated 35 per cent to 40 per cent of undocumented immigrants have overstayed their visas, Homeland Security spokesman Bill Strassberger said.

The government has been testing an electronic exit system at Baltimore-Washington International Airport and Miami International Cruise Line Terminal. Visitors check out at kiosks, which electronically read documents, take fingerprints and a digital photo, and spit out a receipt verifying that the foreigner has checked out. Or, they can go through the same process with a US-VISIT staffer at departure gates.

The exit system will be added to these airports and seaports next month: William B Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta; Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport; Denver International Airport; Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport; Newark International Airport, in New Jersey; Philadelphia International Airport; Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport; San Francisco International Airport; San Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Seattle/Tacoma International Airport; and the San Pedro and Long Beach seaports in Los Angeles County, California.

US-VISIT eventually is to be installed at land ports of entry. Next month, foreigners travelling with passports will be required to use the exit system and supply fingerprints and photographs.

I have a friend that was let go from a public safety position about a year ago because of something he posted on the internet, so I can understand any hesitation to divulge information. (He kind of criticized a new public safety digital trunked radio system that kept crashing in his locale...well, the guy who designed the system go wind of it and searched down my friend, and sent all his posting (even from college) to internal affairs!)

Unusual illegal border crossing draws attention of U.S. officials

SAN DIEGO (AP) Authorities in California were on the lookout Tuesday for a man believed to be from the Middle East who paid a higher-than-usual smuggling fee to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, but officials said the case had no connection to terrorism.

OOOH OOOOH GUN PORN! Somebody alert the *Bang_List!

It just so happens that yesterday, I purchased a SIG SAUER like the one on the bottom. Well, almost. I got a Sig P245 .45ACP. I suspect the pic is a 9mm P226.

I don't think this has been posted, but I sure could have missed it. It sounds similar to an alert that was posted on TM in the past day or so about a pickup truck headed up I-5.

Oh, the usual, I assume. Bridges, Subways, Train stations, Airports, nuke plansts, power plants, Chemplants, heck, virtually anything public out there, not to mention "small scale" Israeli like terror, malls, eateries, weddings, police stations etc.

You are so right about that!!

During the many 1000's of minutes we spent on the phone last month this was one of many discussions!!

There is nothing more a girl loves than to have her man protect her in every way.

Dragons, terrorists or whatever else comes along!

So, I say to the terrorists beware.....we will not cower in the face of danger.

Do not get me started on the tuition for illegal aliens. With two this year in college, I'm so totally p****d at our illustrious governor I can't see straight. Pretty gutsy passing the right to carry and tuition for illegals all at once.

Thank you both for your informative self-defence info. I know that since I have had children; I am "almost" fearless with regard to ever having to defend them or myself. I always refer to it as my Lioness mentality. Didn't kick into full force until I had my sons. Many other moms I know have the same feeling. Thankfully my husband is a
6'-3" former football player; but he is not always with us when we go to the market etc.

Mi-Lady, you have just paid me the highest compliment you could. Yes I'm a romantic, and somewhat handy with words to express those feelings. But there are too many real warriors on this site for me to ever lay claim to that title. But I offer my humble thanks.

The Islamic militants are beginning to make the Red Scare look like a picnic outing.

The Reds only wanted to bury us, actually take us over. The Jihadies want to kill as many of us as they can. Compared to that, the Red Scare *was* a picnic!

You do great Mossad1967 - thanks for enlightening us to the best of your ability. We know there are thousands of sleeper cell jihadis among us. I daydreamed one day that thousands of them could storm a small city and cause great devastation and disappear into the woodwork to do it again somewhere else on another day. There are thousands of small cities with scarcely a police force to defend themselves all over this country. I've read repeatedly they would like to do to us what they feel we've done to them in Iraq. Don't want to be an alarmist, but our nation's smallest cities and towns need to be as prepared as the largest ones, and their citizens need to be aware they may need to defend themselves and their families. My daydream is really a kind of nightmare, because it could happen.

While we are off pondering nukes, bio and chemical, remember they are barbaric and they've promised to "surprise" us. That means, in my book, anything goes.

Not in any way meaning to downplay your husbands background or his ability to protect you, but I remember vividly the spree killings in Gainesville Florida a few years ago perpetrated by Danny Rolling. He was a slightly built guy who literally beat a body builder to death, the only man killed during the spree. The bodybuilder could intimidate almost anybody with a mean look. But the reality was that he (first name was Manny, IIRC) was a gentle gentle man. Rolling was a viscious killer, who never hesitated to attack and didn't stop until the prey was dead.

Most of the most successful snake-eating SEALs and SF guys I know are not big guys. They're average. They have lean "fast twitch" muscles and you can always tell them by their quiet demeanor. If you mess with one, look into those eyes of death and proceed at your peril. My point is that "Big and Sports-Aggressive" doesn't necessarily translate into "killer." It's a mistake to confront a person ready to kill you and not have an identical attitude. Kill first or be killed.

11 manslaughter charges in Staten Island ferry crash

NEW YORK (AP) — Prosecutors will unseal an indictment against the captain and pilot in last year’s Staten Island ferry crash on charges that include 11 counts of manslaughter, law enforcement sources said Tuesday.

Richard Smith, an assistant captain who piloted the Staten Island ferry that crashed last year and killed 11 people, is expected to plead guilty Wednesday, when prosecutors announce the results of their 10-month investigation.

Smith is scheduled to enter a guilty plea in federal court in Brooklyn, according to the calendar for Chief Judge Edward Korman. The calendar does not specify the charge, and Smith’s lawyer declined to comment Tuesday.

Oh the contrary dear sir, I've observed your posts and read your bio. Anyone who has served in our proud military shall always bear the title warrior. And then you took the fight to inner city schools to bring them decency and truth. Yet again, a warrior and a scholar. The lovely stories about your mother and wife - a romantic and a gentleman. So, no more argument. Okay, I'm getting misty here - enough schmoozing and back to the battle at hand.
