Thank you both for your informative self-defence info. I know that since I have had children; I am "almost" fearless with regard to ever having to defend them or myself. I always refer to it as my Lioness mentality. Didn't kick into full force until I had my sons. Many other moms I know have the same feeling. Thankfully my husband is a
6'-3" former football player; but he is not always with us when we go to the market etc.

Not in any way meaning to downplay your husbands background or his ability to protect you, but I remember vividly the spree killings in Gainesville Florida a few years ago perpetrated by Danny Rolling. He was a slightly built guy who literally beat a body builder to death, the only man killed during the spree. The bodybuilder could intimidate almost anybody with a mean look. But the reality was that he (first name was Manny, IIRC) was a gentle gentle man. Rolling was a viscious killer, who never hesitated to attack and didn't stop until the prey was dead.

Most of the most successful snake-eating SEALs and SF guys I know are not big guys. They're average. They have lean "fast twitch" muscles and you can always tell them by their quiet demeanor. If you mess with one, look into those eyes of death and proceed at your peril. My point is that "Big and Sports-Aggressive" doesn't necessarily translate into "killer." It's a mistake to confront a person ready to kill you and not have an identical attitude. Kill first or be killed.
