Bush takes action and puts another nail in the democrat's campaign coffin!

More like Bush bows to pressure and does something that may be ill advised. Or not. It's worth thinking about, not just rubber stamping because the 9/11 committee advised it. I think Bush is just reacting to Kerry's "let's implement it all RIGHT NOW!" and not taking the proper amount of time to decide if it makes sense or not.

I think there really has to be one person at the top instead of 15 who all want their agency to get more money and they want their agency to have the 'big get'...with one leader there is one team not 15 teams all working against each other.

More:....Cabinet level position to oversee all 15 intelligence agencies...outside the White House.

Counter intelligence Center, the director of which would report to Natonal Intelligence director.

It will ONLY add another layer of Bureaucracy to an already bloated government.

That being said, I sure hope the person that gets the job is not a Sandy Berger type or Halfbright, but someone that has his/her OWN country's security in MIND 24/7 and is NOT a policy wonk or a political hack.

Wasn't that why they created the Department of Homeland Security? It was supposed to fill that void.

We don't need another bureaucratic layer.

Remember Jamie Gorelick and 'the Wall'?????

We need less, not more agencies.

What we really need is JOHN KERRY to be elected President, so that he can implement the 9/11 Commission's recommendations!

The important aspect is that the President, while agreeing in principle about the need for a single Intelligence Czar does NOT want this person to be White House based. He is right that this could lead to a politicization and would not serve the country well.

WAY TO GO, MR. PRESIDENT!!!

Imagine one place for all of our intelligence under one umbrella. A clearinghouse for all information. A central intelligence agency. Wait, don't we already have one?

How the heck did they ever find that computer nerd Mohamed in Pakistan without having a central bureau of Intelligence or implementing any of the 911 Commission recommendations yet?!! < /sarc>

That being said, if it's a fait accompli then Rudy is the man for the job...

I'm still reading the 9/11 Comission Report. Haven't made up my mind if this is the correct decision. (Intelligence "Czar"....btw, am I the only one that thinks naming anyone a "Czar" is dumb? I mean, they killed the last Czar and his entire family if memory serves....grin)

National Intelligence Director

The way the Democrats want this new arm of government set up , it could be EASILY bought off. It could EASILY become a partisan wing of the government. It could even be bought off my foreign nations. THAT'S why the Democrats are pushing to get it done NOW!
Bush has to be very careful how he sets up this new arm. It had better have checks and balances built into it from the beginning, otherwise generations could find them selves stuck with it. This is not something that should be rushed into. I hope Bush knows exactly what he's doing before he signs any agreement.

Or Bush could simply seal the boarders and keep the potential terrorists out.

Bush takes action and puts another nail in the democrat's campaign coffin!

The trouble is that nail was removed from the shaky supports holding up what's left of our constitutional republic.
