Would-be first daughter Alexandra Kerry revealed Thursday night that her father's habit of saving men overboard didn't end with his Swift Boat rescue of fellow Vietnam veteran Jim Rassman. In a bizarre recollection, Alexandra told the Democratic Convention crowd how the family waited dockside one summer day to embark on a trip, when the cage housing her sister's hamster "Licorice" tumbled into the drink. "My dad jumped in, grabbed an oar, fished the cage from the water, hunched over the soggy hamster and began to administer CPR," the Kerry daughter told the audience. "There are still to this day some reports of mouth-to-mouth, but I admit it's probably a trick of memory."
Actually, the textbook definition of CPR is mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, though what techniques may be appropriate for hamster rescue is anybody's guess.
Too bad Sen. Kerry didn't have his trusty 8mm camera along to reenact his hamster heroism for posterity.
Yes, but she added that the Hamster was never "quite right" after Kerry saved him.
That is the real moral to this story.

In an attempt to calm a sobbing 9 year old I attempted to bring the poor little fellow back to life.
The amazing thing is, the little guy did twitch back to life, even though my attempt was purely for show. To this day my daughter (now 21) believes that Daddy saved her hamster's life.
Hilarious
(from an earlier post of mine)
To think my dad felt so bad when he accidently squashed a hamster when it ran under the television. Now if he had only given it CPR, it probably would have been okay. LOL!
I'm with you. This story is a load of crap. It smells " a little fishy."
;o)
LOL!

It's ashame Ted Kennedy didn't do the same to Mary Jo.
1) Never did go for the saggy look.
2) Prefer the 'road less traveled'.
But you are welcome to a different opinion. Just remember - no soldier goes into battle without his helmet. And some hotels will rent by the hour...suspect Alexandra knows their locations.
Rush had me laughing out loud today while i was working out. Not just with the Mighty Mouse theme, but he also said something about how of course Ted Kennedy would have dove into the water too to save the hamster.
This story gets more colorful the more it's told, just like his Viet Nam record. Below an excerpt from today's NYT and an older story from the Dallas Morning News. Compare both to the 3/11/04 Boston Globe version. First account says he "grabbed an oar", next account he "jumped into a rowboat", and now the NYTimes state "The man known for pulling a drowning soldier from the Mekong River in the Vietnam War had also dived off a dock to save a hamster."

Hehehehehe....I like hanging out with friends who aren't attracted to the women who attract me...they make better wingmen!
