WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An American Muslim leader is expected to admit being involved in an alleged Libyan plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia's crown prince, CNN has learned.

Abdurahman Alamoudi is not charged in the assassination plot, but government sources said he has agreed to fully cooperate in what one senior government official called "a real intelligence coup for the United States."

Alamoudi has struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors and is expected to plead guilty in federal court Friday to charges related to his dealings with Libya.

"This guy was really well-connected and he knows who all the players are," the official told CNN.

Saudi Arabian and U.S. authorities have been investigating the alleged plot by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi to assassinate Crown Prince Abdullah bin Aziz.

Libya has said the allegations are false.(Alleged plot investigated)

The charges to which Alamoudi is expected to plead guilty also include making false statements about his citizenship and travel, immigration fraud and tax offenses -- including failure to report assets in a Swiss bank account.

Libya vs. the Saudis ... can you imagine that war? ... the Saudis would probably prevail in the air with their F-15S Eagles and if their American M1A1 tanks could get to Libya they'd whip them too ...

and I do believe war would have resulted ...

What is the penalty in Saudi arabia for trying to assassinate the Prince? Probably more than being forced to wear panties on ones head. I bet some Muslims are sweating on their prayer rugs right now.

Either one would have to get past Egypt to get at the other, and that won't happen.

His current moves aren't all just his idea.
One of his sons seems to be nudging him in the direction of at least
sometimes being reasonable with the USA.

I thought about that but if we sold them long-range bomb racks (once not allowed) the F-15 could easily travel to Libya I think ... I also think the Saudis may have been developing landing forces, but I am not certain of that ...

to clarify, the bomb racks don't give them fuel range, of course ... but the F-15 has the various external tanks as well as conformals depending upon how equipped ...

This is strange. Prince Abdullah is number 1 in line as the next king and the most anti Western. Rumor in Kingdom had it that if the king died, before ehe could take power he would be ousted in favor of Prince Bandir, who likes the US.

Naw, Abdullah is basically pro-U.S. (as much as anyone is in that part of the world). The guy you're thinking of is Prince Nayef.
