A Few of FR's Finest....07-28-04....Celebrate Living #7

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Celebrate Living #7...

Today we are featuring more suggestions, observations and reminders on how to live a happy and rewarding life. Some are private, most are excerpts from "Life's Little Instruction Book" by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. Please stop in..and add your own. Also,, please click on the music link below (Songs of Africa). We guarantee the combination will make you feel good all day. Enjoy!
Sounds Out Of Africa

Suggestions on how to live a happy & rewarding life:

Take time to smell the roses.

When someone asks you a question you don’t want to answer, smile and ask, “Why do you want to know?”
Never betray a confidence.
Never claim a victory prematurely.
Never leave the kitchen when something’s boiling on the stove.
Take along a small gift for the host or hostess when you’re a dinner guest. A book is a good choice.
Don’t overlook life’s small joys while searching for the big ones.
Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
Don’t be surprised to discover that luck favors those who are prepared.

Avoid approaching horses and restaurants from the rear.
Write a short note inside the front cover when giving a book as a gift.
Make the rules for your children clear, fair, and consistent.
Make allowances for your friends’ imperfections as readily as you do for your own.
Don’t waste time trying to appreciate music you dislike. Spend the time with music you love.
Do the right thing, regardless of what others think.
Be open and accessible. The next person you meet could become your best friend.
Learn how to make tapioca pudding and peanut brittle in the microwave.
Learn to be different.
Buy a used car with the same caution a naked man uses to climb a barbed-wire fence.
Buy the big bottle of Tabasco.

Turn enemies into friends by doing something nice for them.
Be as friendly to the janitor as you are to the chairman of the board.
If you want to do something and you feel in your bones that it’s the right thing to do, do it. Intuition is often more important than the facts.
Learn to bake bread.
Every loves praise. Look hard for ways to give it to them.
Spend some time alone.
Be an original. If that means being a little eccentric, so be it.
Don’t expect anyone to know what you want for Christmas if you don’t tell them.
Don’t buy a cheap mattress.
Don’t think you can relax your way to happiness. Happiness comes as a result of doing.
Don’t dismiss a good idea simply because you don’t like the source.
Don’t waste time waiting for inspiration. Begin, and inspiration will find you.

When you say, “I love you,” mean it.
When you say, “I’m sorry,” look the person in the eye and mean it.
Win without boasting.
Lose without excuses.
Watch your attitude. It’s the first thing people notice about you.
Pack a light bathrobe on overnight trips. Take your pillow too.
Remember that a good example is the best sermon.
Every so often let your spirit of adventure triumph over your good sense!!!
Use a favorite picture of a loved one as a bookmark.
Trust in God but lock your car.
Don’t let weeds grow around your dreams.

Read bulletin boards at the grocery store, college bookstore, and coin laundry. You will find all sorts of interesting things there.
The next time you’re standing next to a police officer, firefighter, or paramedic, tell them that you appreciate what they do for the community.
Remember that the best relationship is one where your love for each other is greater than your need for each other.

Never swap your integrity for money, power, or fame.
Never sell yourself short.
Never be ashamed of your patriotism.
Never be ashamed of honest tears.
Never forget life before Free Republic.

Thank those who open the Finest door every morning with coffee, goodies and words of wisdom.
Give thanks for all our Finest Friends.

Give thanks for Jim Robinson and FreeRepublic

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

A Matter Of Taste

Read: 2 Corinthians 6:1-7:1

Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. —2 Corinthians 7:1

Bible In One Year: Psalms 46-48; Acts 28

Two cockroaches decided to visit their favorite restaurant. While the larger of the two was enjoying his meal, the smaller one said,“You wouldn’t believe the house I just left. It was spotless. The lady had to be a cleanaholic. Everything was immaculate—the sink, the counter, the floors. You couldn’t find a crumb anywhere.”The other cockroach stopped his munching, looked with some annoyance at his companion, and said,“Do you have to talk like that while I’m eating?"

This story about roaches can apply to human nature as well. The second letter to the Corinthians shows that Paul’s readers had much to learn about clean living. They needed to develop a stronger hunger and thirst for righteousness. So the apostle pleaded with them to turn away from all filthiness (7:1). He reminded them that God wants His people to separate themselves from spiritual garbage.

If “cleanness”of heart sounds unappealing, perhaps we’ve been satisfied with the crumbs of our earthly desires. We need to learn to savor the flavor of godliness.

Father, forgive us for feeding the cravings of our sinful flesh. Help us to cultivate instead the tastes that Your Holy Spirit wants to produce in us. —Mart De Haan

If we desire to taste what’s good
And lose our taste for sin,
We must with ruthless honesty
Expose the dirt within. —D. De Haan

Sin cannot flourish where godliness is cultivated.

God Bless Our Military

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below are names of some of our FReepers' loved ones who are serving our country. If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to Billie; Mama_Bear; Dutchess or Aquamarine and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nation’s leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart.
~~~~~~~~~~   ~~~~~~~~~~

We ask Lord, that You guide the leaders of our great country in their hour of decision. The burden that has been placed on their shoulders is overwhelming. We ask that with Your infinite wisdom You guide them gently to the right decisions.
Please give us the strength, Lord, to get through each difficult and devastating day that faces each of us and our country. Protect and guide our Military that are now being called to duty, strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
