Eating our own...Time to make a new start in Free Republic.
7-26-04 | Bob J

Posted on 07/26/2004 7:41:11 PM PDT by Bob J

The last few months I've seen an increasing trend for FReepers to start going for each others jugular. Sometimes we forget (I've certainly done it myself) that in the grand scheme of things, we are on the same team. We may disagree on priorities or how far we are willing to go, but we have enough enemy in the left without creating more amongst ourselves. We can disagree but be civil to each other. We can debate nuance, but not believe that our personal positions are more important than the health of the whole. Let's argue vigorously but remind ourselves the guy whose trachia we are ripping out today may be sitting next to us in a foxhole tommorrow.

I'm going to propose that we all make a new start. Let's put all past differences behind us and resolve to band together and fight the good fight, the elimination of liberalism as a significant culturual influence in America...and see that to its end in our lifetimes.

If you agree, please post your thoughts and ping your lists and your friends to this thread.

All the stories I have posted (do the background check) have received commentary from very knowledgeable Freepers..often
laced with wit. Even those stories I have commented on myself have been the same. Guess in my past couple years at FR I have not experienced this "eating our own"...and these stories to which I refer have most always had heavy response.

No problem here.

Yea, you're right to an extent but I could really care less about internal squabbling as long as I see postings tearing the DemoRats a new a*shole, as they deserve!

Thanks for writing this. I have been told that I am really not a Republican. I have been accused of being a Democratic operative. The person even made disgusting off-color remarks. This makes conservatives look really crude and ignorant---everything the opposition says about us.

All I said was that I thought that Kerry probably didn't know about what Berger was up to. I gave all my reasons.

The people on the forum were misquoting a Republican Senator and making it seem like he said something he really didn't say. Here is the thread.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1175028/posts

This forum has been a real turn-off lately because of the vulgarity and nastiness. People don't state their views and give examples. They just call others names.

I'm going to propose that we all make a new start.

FREE REPUBLIC II...The Sequel!

Available on a computer near you...

You won't believe your eyes when you see:
-Once banished FReepers writing love notes to JimRob and The Mods!
-Once banished trolls who now FReep Kerry and Hillary around the world!
-Photos of the GOP-Libertarian-Constitution Party L-O-V-E-F-E-S-T!
-And many other miraculous displays of Kum-ba-ya!

* The Crevo threads, however, remained unchanged and eventually moved to the WWF website chat room.

Bob, the effective tools and resources smartly employed by the FRN always trumps a half dozen ubiquitous Freeper individuals in D.C. who think cross-dressing in embarassing costumes at a Hillary Clinton book signing best pursues Free Republic's public and real world interests.

I'm here to say ... Kristinn has an egocentric agenda going on.

One more thing ... Any endeavor that works to gain access, influence and success in the institutions of political power is righteous, powerful and worth exploiting. FRN does that.

Standing around any street in a costume, carrying a sign or presenting some political agenda signifies a LOSER! A LOSER! Only political losers, the ignorant or disconnected from power structures, protest on the streets. Freepers operate expertly and successfully deep in the influential institutions of government, not carrying a sign outside some bookstore or politician's office.

Most DC "Freeps" are embarrasing. Standing on a sidewalk with a sign is a symbol of weakness.

I am new to this site, so I "feel" all warm and "fuzzy" about this...LO very, very L!! Get a grip!! This is how we fight in our system. If I make a mistake, grill me, fry me, turn me inside out. Then (if I have any sense)to avoid future pain I will be sure to "be Correct". As in check my facts. This will stop the idiot's from posting some of the retarded comments we see, and if they do we can eat them alive.

I have been here for a while myself and cannot recall having crossed swords with you personally but certianly HAVE done so with others. Because of that and because I find your pledge so compelling I will simply join you and repeat it on my own behalf.

"I'm putting everything that's happened in the past into the grave and making a new start with everyone (you know who you are). I pledge to argue my case, but will always remember that even though we have differences, you ultimately are my friend in the trenches."

Bill,

Freepers being such a fractious bunch, it figured that someone would quickly and aggressively refuse to get with the program. But you did it so quickly, and simply.

I agree with the general tenor of Bob J's appeal. On the other hand, I don't think most Freepers want to get involved in group hugs as on the "Mary Tyler Show." LOL.

An "imbecile index"? That makes me REALLY nervous. Depending on whom you ask, you might get the answer that I have the IQ of a kumquat. (And I don't have proof positive to the contrary.) LOL.

Then anyone reading a discussion will be able to see right away the nature of the person they're looking at, and judge his imbecilic comments accordingly.

I find it helpful, before I hit POST on an angry retort, to check the person's latest posts. That can tell you alot about whether or not it would be worth your time to try to debate.

I object Hillary is not a "runt"! What, is there something else that rhymes with "stunt"? ( : >)

If my proposal were to come to fruition, I don't think there'd be a single freeper who'd escape at least a small number of altogether unflattering comments (I can already see some of the remarks that would come my way 8-[ ). It's the general tenor that would count. And listing them in random order would help ensure that minority comments stay relatively spaced apart.
