AURORA, Colo. — Sen. John Kerry spoke about the plight of the American worker when he traveled to Detroit earlier this week, a safe message for the blue-collar workers who build cars there.

So it was a little strange that the campaign picked as its press-pass logo for its Motor City tour the gleaming showcase car of a foreign auto company — Rolls-Royce — that makes cars priced far outside the financial reach of any middle-class voter.

"That's an insult to the auto worker, it's an insult to the American worker, it's an insult to mainstream America," said Sam Burwell from Corunna, Mich., a third-generation auto worker for General Motors. "It also shows who he's really in touch with: his European, elitist French friends and not Americans like me. A Rolls-Royce, for cryin' out loud."

Dear Father in Hell!  Not only unformatted but needlessly excerpted too?  You might as well post a comment about Ann Coulter and not post a picture of her.

Dear Father in Hell!

That's a real intelligent comment.

Bill Ballenger, editor of Inside Michigan Politics newsletter, said the Kerry campaign may have thought that since Mr. Kerry was addressing the Urban League, a civil rights organization, and not an auto industry group, such a snafu would go unnoticed.

"The whole reason the black population, or just about any population, is here is because of the auto industry," he said. "It's a bone-headed play by Team Kerry."

If I were a liberal, and this was a Repub candidate, I would probably make some comment to the effect that racist Kerry felt "those black people" would like the look of a fancy Rolls Royce press pass rather than one featuring just a plain old American model.

If I were a liberal.

For some reason the admin mod excerpted it. Don't know why.

"Sen. John Kerry spoke about the plight of the American worker when he traveled to Detroit earlier this week ... the campaign picked as its press-pass logo for its Motor City tour the gleaming showcase car of a foreign auto company — Rolls-Royce..."

Senator Kerry has got to be deliebrately throwing this election.

No one is as obtuse as what the Rolls Royce campaign image in Detroit would imply.

I don't think Kerry is particularly smart, but it's hard to believe he's this stupid.

Holy S@#^!

That alone might cost him Michigan if the State GOP plays their cards right.

Carl Lenin survived 1984(One of the 3 best GOP years in Michigan) only when Astronaut Jack Lousma was found to be driving a foreign car.

This needs to be sent out to Detroit(and all the burbs), Livingston County(commuters), Bay City(GM), Saginaw(GM), Flint(GM), Lansing(GM), Muskegon(Ford?), Milan(Ford), Monroe County(Ford and Toledo) and anywhere else there's an auto factory.

I know Lorain, Cleveland and Youngstown have their share of car plants too.

I know Michigan gets the auto hype, but I'm sure Youngstown and Lorain will love this as much as Flint. Rolls Royce....
