[history]
I don't know how many of you read this story in "The Post", or heard about on the local news, but The Straphangers Campaign has just released its annual "State of the Subways" report.
According to this article, the report "ranks each line based on what a $2 ride is really worth...based on Transit Authority data from the last six months of 2003."
Not surprisingly, the two trains that I use most frequently while doing interborough or intraborough commuting, the R and N train, are assigned the lowest ranking in this survey. A ride on each train is worth ninety and eighty cents, respectively.

I HATE the local busses (slow as HELL). The Express bus to/from Bay Ridge was great, btw, particularly when there was no express N service.

I agree.
I'm still adjusting to the fact that the B line is again operative and running at full capacity.
It's going to take awhile to assimilate the W, B and Q/ Q (diamond) reversions .

Mass transit? What's that?
The only methods here are car, boat, motorcycle, foot, and in the winter time - snowmobile

BTW - CATA(lansing) doesn't count. Smart doesn't from what I've heard about them. Not sure about Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids.

The lexington avenue is great but so is the 7th avenue line. Now, though, due to the bomb being set off in the Times Square stop (supposedly by a crazy cop but who knows), I'm reluctant to use it at all.

I have very little experience on this subject. I stay out of tunnels because the Gypsy Woman told my momma that I would be hit by an asteroid in a tunnel.
I wish I could be more help but it's for my health.

Fortunately, John Kerry has managed to misuse all of those modes of transport.
Plus, you can't forget skis.
Kerry really sucks at skiing also.

Thanks for the compliment.
I'll try to keep being a royal pain in the ass.
Far as I can tell, there's not much in the way of competition in that department.

Bump from a FReeper who at age 12 took the D train to Yankee Stadium. The

The problem with New York city is that in the outer boroughs mass transit sucks. The subways all head towards Manhattan and there are no cross borough lines to connect the lines. The result is that if you don't have a car in the outer boroughs, getting around is a pain.Doesn't the G run directly from downtown Brooklyn to Jackson Heights in Queens?

I don't mind the actual Union Sq. station that much, even though there are way too many freaks, derelicts, obnoxious hippies and assorted political wackjobs that congregate around the entrances.
In fact, the new trains they have now-where you can actually hear the conductor's voice-are fantastic.
If you want to be sickened, get off at the Delancey St. station, which seems to have been intentionally bathed in urine and sputum by the MTA.
Unsettling would be the mildest of adjectives that could be used to describe it.

Last time I rode a subway, there was this annoying and painful high pitched dog-whistle sounding screech during the entire ride.Curiously, only humans could hear it.
